Side issue. how many Perth fans showed up? I reckon there was about 7. Did they all fly over or were some locals making a showing? Was good to see. Lonegunmen2009-11-09 09:56:54
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I know it has been bought up before but what about the kids go free with paying adult. Good way to introduce familys to (or back to) the ROF and boost numbers.

I think it was because everyone was sitting in the 'sun' aisles, because of the good weather. and practically no one over the other sides. Its usually not many, but seemed very scarce there last night. Could be up to a thousand fans or so, that sat in the sun making it seem that much more full.

I hate to be negative, especially with the week coming up, But i thought that was average as crowd. Was realistically hoping for 10.
I don't know what can be done to boost numbers, but the Nix have 3 or for week until the next home game, hopefully some initiatives can be thought out.

Ok I'm done.

I think we're under-extimating the impact of this weekend.

I think quite a few occassional attendees will be tied to the All Whites and their football mindset will be about that

How's my driving? - Whine here

I think that is very true especially with money been an issue many might be putting all their cash in the All Whites game and possibly can't invest in both AW and Phoenix.

That said, with a good result or even a close game we should see a rise in numbers at subsequent home games, fingers crossed

Well a win this weekend and hopefully the nix can market themselves off it. December 4th has got to be a big crowd. Its not for a while and hopefully we can call for all those who missed the game to come to this one

An Whites win and a few good results away for the Phoenix will bring 10k in for the next home game.

Kiwis like winners. Look at the warriors. I wonder what their core support is when they are losing, because mention the playoffs and mount smart sells out. That next game will only be a few games away from the end of the season, so we should be in the hunt and on the way to the world cup. Make it 15k.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

I am quite disappointed that the crowd was slightly below my prediction of 72k.

Or like Seednee did.  You could get Aussies to come up and say "Fush and Chups.  Phar Lap, Crowded House and Pavlova are all from New Zild, Russell Crow is dinky die Ocker"

and then they can have a ticket for $10.

I put it down to Euro Snobs, partly as well. I was on my way to a church thing at 6 and drove past Kelburn Park where there was a large group of blokes playing football. Surely they could have been at the RoF?

You weren't there either...?

Yes I have always found it strange that people who actually like football won't go along and see their local professional team?

These people who only watch the EPL on TV I find strange too. Watching on TV does not compare to the full experience of going to games, no matter who it is playing IMO.

Using the Westpac Stadium published (on website) attendances and excluding exhibition games (LA Galaxy & Boca) but including playoff games 423,235 have watched the Nix at the RoF.

We've got 11 more games at the RoF this season so we should easily get to half a million this  season

Half a million watching the Nix at the RoF is, I think, a pretty cool milestone - hopefully the press (cue Piney) picks it up.

Thanks Oceanic6.

As I mentioned in another thread - is anyone disappointed by the low attendance so far?

Maybe I was expecting too much after a good end to last season and a great WC showing.

Modest increase in membership and modest crowds so far.

Underwhelmed.

Must admit i thought we would get 10k each match minimum. There is a lot more nix stuff in the media, especially compared to previous seasons, which i thought were party to blame for the lacking crowds.

Hopefully as the weather improves and other sports begin to finish we will see a big pick up.

The weather has been dodgy for pretty much all our home games. Pretty sure there was some rain on all 3.

I'm happy it hasn't gone down like 90% of the crowds in the a-league.

I think bandwagoners have had too much football for a while.

CCM game on the sunday was a beaut.

Buffy, prices gone up from $25 to $27 for an adult in the zone. only a couple of bucks increase but just that little closer to $30 could be a mental put off.

22 unbeaten games at the stadium, finish 1 game away from the final, I mean what the feck do they have to do to get the season 1 crowds back?

Basically, it seems these casual punters just do not come out until its an 'important' game...normal league games not being deemed as important in their minds...

Be interesting to see what next Friday's crowd is, although I guess it probably depends a bit on these next 2 games (not always the case though I suppose).

I'm also thinking this Paraguay game is going to fall far short of the expected sell out - anyone else thinking that? I'm not sure I will bother going to it, but then I am not a Kiwi so it's a bit different.

Yep - can't see any big crowds without some major promotion (and fine weather).

I've not seen any promotion since basically the day it was announced. Only knew the tickets were even on sale because I was looking for something else on Ticketek.

I haven't heard ANY non-football fan mention it at all, which wasn't the case when the Bahrain game was coming up. Tricky to promote friendlies though. Personally I really don't like international friendlies in general.

f**k me we make a lot of excuses for the crowds. Time, weather, coverage etc.

I don't think we'll start seeing 10-12k until end of the season if we are really in the hunt for the title/playoffs.

All Whites have just cracked the top 50 on FIFA rankings for this month, despite not playing a game. Just imagine what could happen if they beat Paraguay & Honduras.

Seriously though, how often does NZ get to see 2 top 50 sides play each other? This might get a few more in the stands.

Boys who commented above, this thread is only in relation to the Phoenix so please talk about the All whites crowds in the All whites section.

I too am underwhelmed.  Hope to see more people when other sports finish up for the season.  I also found this comparison to other teams in the league.  5th on the league ladder and 5th in attendance numbers.

Pretty sure NZF were saying they at least 'hoped' for a sell out.

There's a number of All Whites in the Phoenix side and yet crowds are not higher at all?

Basically, there's apathy amongst many people, and it's not just football - Lions and Hurricanes crowds are hardly anything to get excited about either...

Mmmmm but the population of Wellington is about 160,000 - the whole Wellington region, including Kapiti, Hutt and Wairarapa is about 452,000, the population of Adelaide is 1,400,000, Brisbane 1,820,000 Melbourne 3,900,000, Sydney 4,450,000 ...... kind of puts it into perspective
