I have a feeling that this crowd could well exceed expectations with the post angst of ownership etc. I think that the long off seasons will work in the favour for all the fans starved of watching live football.

Also I genuinely think you'll start to see, especially this year, young fans like myself, who have grown up since early high school supporting the phoenix start to trickle into wellington.
I for one made a conscious decision to move from the deep south to study here because of the phoenix and I have no doubt that other fans around the country will be lured to the capital because of the football culture.

Avid supporter, fan since day one. first phoenix game at the RoF sunday. Am I excited? you f**king Betcha!

could be a good sign, but are you are comparing rounds 1 & 2 (2011) with whole of season averages? or with rds 1 & 2 from prev seasons?
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Take out MV and averages start to look a bit more realistic. Boro4eva2011-10-18 19:44:21

This confuses me.  What was our crowd on Sunday?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

Crowd yesterday was 7623....

Im not a complete idiot, some parts are missing!

over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
decent considering the RWC was on later that day.  Hopefully it will kick on and there will be 10k+ for the Victory game.

Slightly off-tack but at yesterday's match it struck me that in the 7632 strong crowd and putting aside the 4 or so Jets fans (singing about Quade Cooper after the game), there was a cack load of phoenix merchandise being worn.  Some season 1/2 shirts but old stripeys very much on show and not a few neon stripeys.

I think that the supporters on average must splash a bit of cash on club gear (and that's not counting YF merchandise).

Surely the fact that it's the middle weekend of the school holidays would have impacted numbers significantly with plenty of families, or at least kids, out of town.

I thought it was kind of disappointing, great weather, no egg ball games clashing, great time and it was the school holidays

Not sure why the fact that it was the school holidays would make it more likely people would attend.  Kids have lots of term-time activities that wouldn't have been on, but not many of them would've clashed with a 4.30 kick off on a Sunday.

But my 3 kids are all out of town and I know quite a few other families away, because it's the school holidays.

Crowd was pretty good given not just the league test and the ab match but don't forget the avg sports punter has probably exhausted their immediate sports budget and taken the kids to the stadium for rwc over last few weeks.

was I the only one to be surprise that we got 7.5K?
It's not a bad start, and given the good result hopefully most (more??) people will come back next week.
Also, mini-Judas will be back along with the likes of Archie, Twallsopp and ineffective-Kewell

If the Nix market this right there could be a big crowd for the Tards game.

I'm thinking a poster with Mr Kewell and the words "The return of the Wizard of Oz".  Then we could encourage all the Liverpool fans to turn up wearing their 'Pyul shirts as a sign of respect for him.

Awesome.
