when it costs $4.50 for water and only $3.50 for coffee you know something is wrong..... i reckon people just cannot afford all the costs when attending matches, and now pick and choose games and the weather unfortunately will decide if they came,

...eg...family of 4 from Lower Hutt......

1;  transport to and from venue...$25.00 approx...[ more if you parked at the ROF]

2;  tickets..............................$87.00

3;  Programme.........................$5.00

3;  food, drinks etc...................$35.00 approx.   [ take your own food and drink ?????? ]

TOTAL................................. $152.00 ..beyond many people these days........plus you want value for your money....something the team is not achieving this season ....yet ...

you are taking a family of 4 right, that's an average of $38 per person....I'm pretty sure that a night out at the movies or a dinner will cost you more. Tell me what you enjoy more, spending time with the family at the footy or sitting in a darkened room watching a movie that will be on dvd in a few weeks and being chared $7.50 for pop corn?

I think Choppers point is that at $150+ for the family, it is not at all likely that it would be possible for a family to attend each home match. Most people will not go to the movies or dinner with their family every fortnight, so the comparison is spurious in that context.

part of the reason I didn't get a season pass as that as a single person with a mortgage I just never have that much spare cash at one time and the other reason being that I have mates that enjoy games but would only want to attend  a cpl over the season.

If they sold something like a straight out pass and four non-final games for $100 (silver seating & no service fee) then a lot of my mates would be keen and you'd get more of the casual attendess who like the game but would never commit week in week out
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

agree....but the family I know don't go out for dinner very often, if at all and will wait for the DVD to come out [but they would rather go to the football] but  they still cannot afford to attend ever match.......Like so many others

.I do attend ever match, just don't buy any food[if you can call it that] which keeps the costs down

Season family pass is expensive upfront but per game is very good value ($47 per game for 14 games at RoF).

Water is free at the stadium and bring in snacks for the kids. (lash out on chips if the weather is cr@p).

I've always liked the idea of half-season passes. The timing works well over summer with fewer other sports on, better weather (hopefully), and the run-in to the playoffs (again, hopefully). At a fair price it'd be a good Christmas stocking filler.

Not a lot you can do about saving on transport costs - except perhaps finding some likeminded fans and carpooling - but food and drink is an interesting point. For some reason we feel obliged to buy it, despite it  being terrible to a point beyond belief. This season I decided that I could survive the 90 mins without needing a dodgy overpriced burger or watery beer so have abstained from all stadium-based food and beverages. I wouldn't go so far as to say I've saved that money since I tend to spend it at the pub beforehand, but at least I like what I get served there.

Half-season pass would be great, i cant attend many of the matches so far and up until december because of exams and the need to study for them, so a pass for December onwards would be great for me!

Also I have not bought a single item of food or drink from any events I have attended at the stadium this year, and it defintly has not hurt my experiences at the games. I laugh when i see all the people queuing up to but the soggy burgers and stale chips.

How does the bench warmer pass work?  Does anyone here have one of those?
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
A "season" ticket is just a form of debit card. I don't understand why it can't be loaded with however many games the purchaser wants, and a sliding scale discount applied i.e. the more games you purchase in advance the bigger the overall discount.

That would give fans the ultimate flexibility.

I think it goes a bit like this:

1. You give the nix some money
2. Nix give you a plastic card
3. You watch the games on Sky or JustinTV

I think the podcast boys summed it up well (another great edition this week too, might I add). It all depends on how we start. The first two home games should do well, but after that it will depend on how we do on the pitch. With months of bad news surrounding the club over recent months, people need to see something positive. A big name signing will help too, however unlikely. I think the club is going to have to work harder to get bums on seats. It would be good to see them do the promotions they did at the end of last season (2 for 1 etc) a few weeks in instead of at the end.

The Eden Park game will of course boost the season average!

Just for comparison purposes the average Canes crowd in 2011 was 11,900, down 20% on 2010. The average Lions crowd was 3,800, down 35% on 2010.

Our average crowd in 2010/11 was 7,400.

I've just been talking to a few close mates who haven't missed a game yet (including one who's had a season pass every season) and they were saying that they will probably just come to the 4kings after to watch the replay instead of going to the game. Very disappointing.

WTF, what the hell is wrong with people.   Disappointing indeed. And sadly they aren't the only ones with this attitude.

I have a feeling that this crowd could well exceed expectations with the post angst of ownership etc. I think that the long off seasons will work in the favour for all the fans starved of watching live football.

Also I genuinely think you'll start to see, especially this year, young fans like myself, who have grown up since early high school supporting the phoenix start to trickle into wellington.
I for one made a conscious decision to move from the deep south to study here because of the phoenix and I have no doubt that other fans around the country will be lured to the capital because of the football culture.

Avid supporter, fan since day one. first phoenix game at the RoF sunday. Am I excited? you f**king Betcha!

5500. I'm being overly negative so that I won't be disappointed with a low crowd, but pleasantly surprised with a largish one.
