Perhaps a nix game in Hamilton. That would be the best news ever.

They already lose a couple of games to New Plymouth and Napier because they're officially a regional team. But maybe this is part of the problem given that Welnix now have a stake in both teams. Maybe they figure that because it's ok to take Hurricanes games out of town, the same goes for Phoenix games and we should stop complaining. Which is utter shit.

The bit that frustrates me is that they kept saying "we need 10K through the gate or we'll take games away". Now it turns out that regardless how many come to the Wgtn games they will take games away. Why not be upfront and honest about it at the beginning.

I love going to home games and I will renew my membership, however I will also stop hassling all my friends to come to games. Whats the point in trying to increase the base when it turns out that crowd numbers in Wgtn mean nothing. Why should I try and do their marketing job for them.

Welnix, you need to have a serious think about what you are doing with the club, and communicate that effectively to your season pass holders. You lied to us, you said that you were doing it because you love Wellington and had no plans to take more games away. I don't mind if you want to do these things, just don't lie to us about them.

Didn't think I would be saying this just over a year ago when they took over.

No sorry I am a committed Phoenix supporter but I will very seriously think about not renewing my membership again. Welnix have to my mind got this seriously wrong.

Westpac is our home that is the way football is, Welnix knew what they were getting into, I think they should seriously look at themselves in the way they have gone about promoting the games, YF seem to be doing more than Welnix. Just giving away promo tickets dont cut it.

Welnix dont seem to want to be proactive with YF re the scholaship or anything else come to that. I would have thought some form of cooperation with an established part of the club support would be a good start to getting things going.

No I'm sorry Mr Morrison you have got this all wrong, if you want to rip the heart out of the club then carry on this path at your peril.

Thanks for putting my thoughts so eloquently. Agree with every single word. I think that Welnix do not understand football in the tiniest regard. The lack of respect or loyalty to dedicated fans is pretty breathtaking, their marketing is utterly wank ("Go and watch the opposition's multi-million dollar signing" FFS) and now they want to take OUR team on more away games. I do not think we will be buying season passes next year. That's four of us. It cost us about $1000 for the Dunedin thrashing, and once bitten etc.

Imagine Liverpool fans being told "We're going to play 3 or 4 games in London this year".

Or for that matter Yeovil Town fans, or Rochdale fans (you get my point).

Feck.

And Merry Christmas.

And sack Ricki.

Well, here's 4 season tickets that wont be renewed next season. Where was the marketing?  Where Wellington goes to see Del Piero? WHERE for f.cks sake? Where Wellington goes to sing? WHEN for f.cks sake? You need a magnifying glass to find out who we are playing, where & when. We should get a banner up at the CCM game demonstrating our annoyance at Welnix's apathy.

So my question relates to season tickets, I paid $175 for a season ticket this year, which included 12 games in Welly & 1 in Auckland, now I am yet to go to one of these home away games, and probably won't go to any, so I would it out as $175 for 12 games or $14.58 per game, now if they take two more games away are they going to drop the price of a season ticket by $29? Or are they just going to expect me to pay $17.50 per game? (Which as soon as I miss one game is closer to $20 a game), or are they going to go with the crap about getting free tickets to the away games counting, because for me it doesn't.

I have sooo much angst about this, but Welnix have seriously pissed me off, don't even ask the fans what would get more people along, suggest they are doing it for Wellington, then decide to take games away, even if crowds reach 10k average. Maybe they should do some marketing, I see St Kilda (AFL) are going to be marketing their single Wellington game in January, a full 3 months before they play, the Phoenix barely advertise the week before.

Does anyone have an email address for David Dome (or someone else useful at the club)?

It's probably of little use, but I'm going to complain to the club directly about their complete lack of marketing effort, lack of engagement with the fans ... and of course the travelling circus they want to turn us into.

Ill join in saying I won't be renewing my season ticket next season. Will just get the free tickets I can get from work instead. F*ck it.

I'll still buy one because I want to go to the games. Fewer Nix games is better than none at all, but i won't be buying one just to support the owners.

This. I can understand why people in Wellington are pissed off though, it doesn't really appease the fan base, only the owners. Having said that, if money can be made to improve the club...

Yep. We are no longer a club we are a business that has an on-field product to sell to consumers.

Honeymoon is over Welnix.  Try being sustainable when you start sh!tting on your core fan base.

I think they will get a nasty shock about the money they make from it.  In Christchurch the crowd dropped 5k between the two games.  In Dunedin the pre-season crowd wasn't close to replicated the following match (students, blah blah but the real answer is first ever match at the new stadium vs mid season in a market 1/4 of the size of Wellington).

A faltering Phoenix is going to struggle to drag people in anywhere, and if the game is no longer a big one off event people won't turn up in numbers bigger than here, so all they are doing is spending more money to take the team away from home.

Yep.  All it's going to do is create more part-time fans who don't go to games.  I really don't understand their thinking on this issue.

Could do something similar to what is happening in Germany, regarding protesting. There is a 12:12 movement which is all Bundesliga fans being silent for the first 12min and 12 sec of games in protest to proposed changes to how fans are managed at games and seen as a threat to the Bundesliga's excellent fan culture and cheap tickets: Fighting for your right to party

Could do a silent sit down protest at a game, might be hard at the next one due 12 pubs of Lochhead but maybe on the 27th.

I like this idea, but am worried about the impact it will have on the players. They might think we don't want to support them, when in fact it has nothing to do with them.
Also, what happens if we score?

The day & kick off time is a red herring. Crowds are no bigger for night games. These kids they are targeting are the next generation of Phoenix fans, they need to be hooked young and develop a culture of wanting to go to games.

When Welnix took over, they said they realised that they had to spend money to make money with regards to advertising. We could be playing like Barcelona but no one would know about it atm. The marketing of the Phoenix has been the most poor aspect for me this season. Also every time a statement is made by the club, it has a very negative vibe to it, that must be very off putting for casual fans

I don't quite agree with that, the numbers may be the same but why should 8 of our 12 home games cater to possible future fans, what about the current fans don't we count for anything. Perhaps mixing it up a little so that everyone is catered for at least part of the time.

What about emptying the whole fever zone and instead doing it in aisle 33 or something like that? The exact opposite side of the stadium?

Then have a few of us making sure everyone stays out of aisle 21 & 22?
We can still be loud and support from the other side of the stadium - but it will show up as empty seats on the tv and also still support the players???

Means we can still do it next home game when it is the most important.

Although do they keep that part of the stadium closed off? Could always do it around aisle 13 or something

Banner. Short, sharp, directed at owners.

Then we can move on and support the players.

Just a banner along the lines of "Sort it out wellnix" should be enough at this stage imo

Having a consistency with day & time should make it easier for fans to know when the game is on. But again it goes back to the lack of marketing.

The Warriors also get stuck in a similar time slot for the NRL, so could also be when Aussie TV prefers coverage to come out of NZ.
