I think it's pretty obvious the deal has been done and the club and new coach, out of respect to his current club and its supporters, are waiting until the end of the English season to announce it.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Don't worry, JD will be on their forum giving them a hard time about their recruitment process. Why wasn't it advertised? Who were the other candidates interviewed? Jobs for the boys etc etc

It was advertised! Trademe jobs.

Manchester United advertised their vacant managers role on Trademe Jobs?

I must have missed that.

I'll bet Wynton applied then.

Just picked up a cheap TV on trademe but the postage from Liverpool will be a bit steep.

Man U supporters already calling for Moyes to be sacked.

You can't please everyone. It is no real surprise that he got the job, his name has been mentioned for years.
My own opinion is that he will do a very good job.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I'm guessing they'll probably want to have a press conference like when Stein arrived so they'll have to wait for him to get here as well, assuming that it is Coppell.

I think the club has handled the whole recruitment very professionally. They have publicised the process so everyone knew how they were going about it( including the sensible decision to hire a couple of football recruitment consultants). Since then they have kept things quiet...which is how it should be done. No point in having this taking place in a public forum. Any delays could possibly be because there was a hiccup in the process( i.e they might not have agreed terms with the first choice) Also if the new coach is coming from the northern hemisphere there would almost certainly be confidentiality terms in place until the end of the season.

Ideally the new coach should be presented with an upgrade in training facilities. Newtown park no2 is an embarrassing joke...especially the"shed" which doubles as a changing room. They should be based on the no1 ground. The thought of someone like Coppell having to run out onto Newtown no 2 makes me cringe.!!!!!

that seems a fairly logical assumption. There will be some regulars who know but won't post...

Grumpy old bastard alert

I think the club are just stoked that they've finally managed to keep a secret and now they'll seeing how long they can last.

Paul Ifill was scathing in his review of Herbert at a charity dinner last night. Told everyone that Herbert was out of his depth, there was no accountability for poor performances and that he doesn't expect the All Whites to qualify for the world cup because the players aren't good enough.

I see from the herald, we are now down to a short list of two with no British coaches in the mix. I think the coppell and dowie rumour was just that. Disappointing.

WTF. Who would he have in the team instead?

Jade North said the same thing.

I know you guys take the Piss when we tell you Ryan Nelsen was the coach the majority of the time in South Africa but it is true.

I have contacts with Killens parents.

This comment from the Facebook page: "Heard just last night that its down to four candidates. Two Englishman, an Australian and a Dutchman. Ifill wouldn't say much more than that!"

So if that's true and the Herald aren't bullshitting then the remaining candidates are a Dutchie and an Aussie (Merrick?)

I'd be happy with Stubbins. Not Merrick, please - he's done his dash, even though I thought it was a good dash I don't think he'll bring anything new to the table.

Great to see the club handling this in a professional manner, by the way.

Merricks a Scot isn't he?

If its merrick then I may make a merrick out banner for game 1. It will be massive- about the same size of the scarf. And it will be draped over the edge of the middle rows of the stadium in full view of the cameras

Paul Ifill's calling someone a liar on Twitter

Thought this bit was interesting:
"While his primary role will be sorting out the 'shop window', the new man will also provide input into the fledging academy programme. The number of players at the academy is set to be doubled over this season - from eight to 16 - and the Phoenix have a long term aim of developing a club wide style and system that permeates through all levels."
If so, and combined with Gareth Morgan's Total Football (tm), then I'd expect a coach who's geared towards a more technical/attacking approach. So probably not Merrick. Would fit with talk of Dutch coach too.
Ruud Gullit anyone? :P
