ex-Nix: Where/what are they now?

This is actually a really good start. From what I know of Guam, they're small but definitely improving as a NT and have invested a lot in facilities, grass root programs and improving their coaches.  They caused a few upsets recently and aren't regarded any longer as the worst team in the region. Could be good for him.

Tobias Bertsch - anyone remember him?

Former Weenix and TW player, just found out he played 90 minutes for his sixth-tier German team in the Deutscher Pokal (main German cup competition). Their opponent was none other than Borussia Dortmund. Aubameyang grabbing himself a hatty in a 4-0 win. Must have been one hell of an experience for him, playing in the heart of defense and having to mark one of the fastest men in world football

Very classy player.

IIRC he was in NZ for quite a few years studying etc and there was talk of potentially making him into a Kiwi eventually.

Real shame he decided to basically call it quits as he had a lot of promise.

My prediction that the A-League would be the highest level he plays at remains intact!

Yep I knew that - still you'd think he would be able to market himself a wee bit better.

is it really? take the big 3 out of Portugal (Benfica, Sporting and Porto) and you have a pretty average european league

Don't know - is the Romanian first division considered 'average'? Agree that outside of the top 3, Portugal has little to offer though.

Romanian 1st division's actually pretty decent, some big recognisable teams like Steaua and Dinamo Bucharest. About as good as the A-League. Sepsi's one of the worst teams, second bottom right now.

Doesn't help that Romania's a horrible place to play if you want stability, clubs are going bankrupt left right and centre every season. If in the top two divisions there's a season where no club gets dissolved, consider yourself lucky

Still haven't gotten over Tim Brown retiring though, no matter how well he does in business.

Good on him. He’d probably achieved as much in football, as he was ever really going to given his limitations as a player. Missing playing at the 2010 WC through injury, no doubt gnaws away at him a bit.

Hopefully he finds the same adrenaline rush from business success, as he got from kicking a football. Plus he got to study at Cambridge for awhile, one of the worlds most famous universities.

A more interesting life than most of us will lead.

Apologies Google says was LSE, though he apparently had an option to study at both.

Canterbury United striker Travis Nicklaw is a Guam international and was quite a decent college player in the States. .

Danny Vukovic (Nix keeper 2010-11 season, 17 appearances, scored one goal) made his debut for Australia against Colombia in the high-profile friendly on Tuesday night in London. 0-0 draw, saved a penalty. It was also his birthday !!!

Played the whole second half, replacing Brad Jones at half-time.

Now the number one for leading Belgian side Genk (28 starts this season) and played in the Belgian Cup Final two weeks ago (lost 1-0 in extra-time to Standard Liege). They are in the Belgian league top-six play-offs starting this weekend (same league system as A-League).

Won the A-League last season.

Definitely one of the Nix's most successful former players after leaving the club.

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/football/a/39649957/da...

"A late penalty save from birthday boy Danny Vukovic, who at 33 became Australia's oldest debutant in 53 years, kept the scores level in front a raucous crowd dominated by Colombia fans at Craven Cottage.

Vukovic, who replaced Brad Jones at halftime, dived to his left to keep out Miguel Borja's 85th-minute spot-kick having brought down the striker in the box."

I'm not sure what was going on when he left. But assuming that is all sorted (I assume it is if he is playing again) then we should be offering him a contract as we need a right back

Some issues are sorted but some others (as I understand it) mean that he probably needs to stay in NSW for the near future. I was told the club are definitely still in touch and would have him back in a heartbeat if it was practical.
