The ODT has broken this story ahead of this morning's official announcement:

http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/300509/premier-league-side-stadium

The Football United Tour had been organised by the Wellington Phoenix club, which would play another premier league team, West Ham, in Auckland on July 23, followed by Newcastle in Wellington on July 26.

West Ham would also play Sydney in Wellington earlier on July 23, to round off the tournament with a double-header.

Full details are expected to be unveiled in Wellington this morning, but Mr Davies has confirmed Dunedin's part in the tournament after being approached by the Otago Daily Times.

Tuesday 22 July: Newcastle vs Sydney (ForBar/Dunedin)

Wednesday 23 July: West Ham vs Phoenix (Eden Park)

Saturday 26 July: West Ham vs Sydney AND Newcastle vs Phoenix double header (Westpac)

Edit: these dates are outside the July school holidays, which end on Sunday 20 July.

Err... How do you think the double header will do for crowds?

West Ham vs Sydney not really a draw card is it?

I guess maybe that's the point. Wouldn't get much of a crowd as a stand alone in Wellington, so bundle them up?

I'll go to both games and slosh it up in between times at the fancy new Mezzanine bar at the stadium.

I will watch both games I reckon. 2 games (maybe) for the price of one is not a bad deal and has lifted my enthusiasm above the levels of just one game.

I spent a good half dozen text messages yesterday trying to twist Domey's arm to tell me what was what so we could pre-record it into the podcast.

He wouldn't.

So I bet he is bubbling with grumpy today that the Forsyth Barr folks have leaked it to ODT.

Bit different to these touted earlier in the thread.

Nix vs West Ham - Aucks 23/7

Nix vs Newcastle - Wellies 26/7

West Ham vs Sydney - Dunedin 27/7 (could've been 28/7)

I wonder how long the wait will be in between games for the double header?

Be a great day of football though!

Long enough for a couple of turbo shandies.

I hear that ticket prices are going to be CHEAP and Foundation Members are getting a free ticket to the double header. Good shit.

Not a foundation member, but that is pretty good. Cheap tickets means a sellout. Hopefully it helps a buzz around the Nix heading into the new season and season ticket sales.

Will the game in Dunedin be while the students are there (ie not on holidays), that's a key point for potential sales there...

Looks like Exams end 18th June, 2nd Semester starts July 7th, so no issue there.

Wonder if Domey considered including the Welly game in season tickets, if you bought before a certain date? Would be a fantastic way of benefiting from the tour long term.

What about those whom haven't missed a game but didn't buy an st that first season? I paid because I wasnt sure I'd make them all. I did in the end. True story but I only posted to represent those in a similar position. Winston might be at Spurs by then.

Ooh I see the $35 tickets are for members. $59 for general public. Still very impressed and hopefully that'll get a few fence sitters across the line.

It sounds like it is $60 for general public and $35 for members with the email saying...
  • Adult ticket prices start from $35 for Phoenix members, $59 for general public with child tickets from $16 for members, $20 for general public.
I hope season ticket holders are considered "Phoenix members".
All in all it sounds like a good mix, much better than what had previously been suggested would happen.
