You keep talking about it like its just some preseason game against a local side.
So this, and also what rammtellica said.
This is not just a friendly, this is big. As the ticket sales are seemingly proving.
Auckland are failing once again but Wellington is, as expected, selling out, and Dunedin is selling more than I personally expected considering the phoenix aren't involved.
Even then I suspect the Auckland crowd will be somewhat decent come kick-off time.
I think perhaps the Auckland tickets are $10 or so too high at best, but the Wellington tickets are a bargain in my opinion. I just wish Del Piero was still playing for Sydney, that would've added something again.
I agree with all this. EPL clubs charge an arm and a leg to play friendlies overseas .
I remember it costing about the price of a cheap meal out to see newly promoted QPR play Canterbury in 1983 but that was totally different times.
Momentum is building now with lots of media coverage.
I think the Shane Smeltz factor at Sydney adds local interest too. I hope the promoters use that especially in promoting the Dunedin game.
I'll probably pay the $40 pay-per-view price. It's a rare event and I'll enjoy seeing our lads test themselves against EPL opposition.
