So this, and also what rammtellica said.

This is not just a friendly, this is big. As the ticket sales are seemingly proving.

Auckland are failing once again but Wellington is, as expected, selling out, and Dunedin is selling more than I personally expected considering the phoenix aren't involved.

Even then I suspect the Auckland crowd will be somewhat decent come kick-off time.

I think perhaps the Auckland tickets are $10 or so too high at best, but the Wellington tickets are a bargain in my opinion. I just wish Del Piero was still playing for Sydney, that would've added something again.

Surely you can't compare the costs of this game to a Super Rugby or NZ Rugby test.  You get 8(?) local Super games plus at least one NZ test each year.  NZ hasn't seen a top tier English football team since the 80's.

Friendly or not, this is a completely unique event on these shores.

Look I'm guessing you are replying to a Stev-0 post yes?

You won't change his mind of seeing any  positives here. The point you've made has been made at least half a dozen times on this thread, I don't know how Tegal does it trying to logically have an argument with him.

You could hand out gold bars with the tickets and Steve-O would find a club in the middle east handing out bags of diamonds that was worth more.

Well Aucklanders obviously don't find it unique enough do they?

For people like Fortean and chums the entire Phoenix squad could come round his house and shit in his kettle and he'd still pretend they were beyond any form of criticism.

For the record, if Paul Ifill had a dump in my kettle, I would get a new one and put the old one on trademe.

Or keep it.

And what would be an acceptable ticket price for this "Kettle-shitting" event than Steve-O?  No doubt it will be too expensive for you what ever it is.

YF: "Hazzah! The Nix Squad are shitting in Fort's kettle only $60 a pop!"

SteveO:  " It's to expensive even if he lives in Pukerua Bay. "Fenerbahce will shit in your kettle and wash it up in their own piss for $40 and they have Dirk Kuyt who is a much better shitter than Nathan Burns and they'll fly you and your kettle out to Turkey on Conchord and Angelina Jolie will hold the kettle whilst Lorde sings to Morgan Freeman who will throw beer on sad Tigers - so I'm not going".

Crikey everyone. Calm down.  It's getting OT with talk of Lorde (real name Ella Yellich-O'Connor) and Angelina Jolie (real name Angelina Ballerina).

Back on topic:  If a footballer had a dump in your kettle which brand would be best?  Kambrook, Russell & Hobbs?

I've got one of those glass kettles so that would be a bonus extra in the circumstances.

They need 21,000 at current prices to just break even for Auckland.

I think $25 tickets selling out really quickly shows the price point that most want to pay.

The prices are up there with All Blacks tickets, and they are playing competitive games.

Not sure how worthwhile the Dunedin game even is really? Possibly should've just had 2 games in Auckland too but realise it'd maybe be a bit tricky to fit 2 games into one night (not impossible though!).

Try getting an All Black rugby ticket for $25 during the rugby world cup. Especially not at the ends of the ground. Face it, Aucklanders like to wait till the last second to decide if they want to go out or not. Currently it resembles the Auckland scenario with the LA Galaxy.

At the end of the day this is a kickabout friendly. The teams will probably totally change at half time.  I can understand the Phoenix need to recoup costs, but people will decide what is a fair price. I could just about cope with the $90 I paid for good tickets for the Wellington day, but that is two games! And Im a season ticket holding regular. Attracting the casual fan is  a different thing

If you go back to the Boca Juniors game, which was a friendly.... it was anything but. From memory I recall 3 off the ball incidents with the third culminating in a 20 man brawl and ending in a red card.

Stop being fooled by this word 'friendly'. That's just FIFA's term for test. If you think these guys are here to get paid and fuck off again then that's not the case. In fact probably the opposite if they have some regulars missing. The fight for a first team spot is a tough one

Boca game was a good friendly I'll admit. Just concerned as I've seen many a god awful friendly in my time.

Siggy should be instructed to go straight through someone in the first minute...THEN we'll have a game on our hands!

yeah it is a worry with any game I guess, particularly with preseason games. But the ones we've had so far over the years have been decent and I've enjoyed them, so hopefully this tour will be the same.

Interesting to note Domey saying to the press that the PPV angle was precisely to get more people to go to the games. People here have been talking like the goal is maximum viewership; they clearly don't understand Welnix, who are dead keen not to lose money and perhaps make a profit.

Didnt Domie say something along the line that Sydney promised to bring along a marquee?? Doesnt that mean that they need to make a signing very soon to live up to their end of the bargain??

I agree with all this. EPL clubs charge an arm and a leg to play friendlies overseas .

I remember it costing about the price of a cheap meal out to see newly promoted QPR play Canterbury in 1983 but that was totally different times.

Momentum is building now with lots of media coverage.

I think the Shane Smeltz factor at Sydney adds local interest too. I hope the promoters use that especially in promoting the Dunedin game.

I'll probably pay the $40 pay-per-view price. It's a rare event and I'll enjoy seeing our lads test themselves against EPL opposition.

Proud of Dome and Phoenix for arranging this Football United Tour, Great to see that the double header in Wellington will hopefully be a sell out. Disappointed with Ticket sales in Aucks and Dunedin though. Useless! These teams have come from the otherside of the world.

If you look at the tickets sold per game, or perhaps eventually attendance on the night per game, then I think there will be little between Wellington and Auckland. Having 2 games on one day/night in Wellington is quite a big factor, in favour of Wellington

I know people pulling pin because of the cost in Auckland. Most aren't Aucklanders by definition. Just not that keen to drop 80 bones on a Wednesday night game

Now that West Ham and Newcastle are here it seems more exciting anyway! Quite surreal seeing Big Sam and Pardew doing a Hongi.

Anyone know where they are staying on Friday night?

So how many could do the same game in the UK  for cheaper?

Pretty sure a few million could do the same for cheaper in the UK to be honest. I've been to friendlies v EPL teams before and prices were lower than SPL games as it was a friendly.

Appreciate Scotland is slightly closer to England than NZ though!

Irrelevant blew. Just saying I know some people who usually like to go to a game of footy aren't that keen to pay $80. There are other contributing factors but that's the bottom line. Also maybe people who live in Auckland like to spend their entertainment budget on other things because 12k is really poor for pre sales. Hopefully it picks up because I can't make it to the double header in Welly and I'd hate to miss out on

I'm traveling from chch to Akl for the wednesday game and then to welly for the double header.  Even contemplating a road trip down and back to Dunedin for the sydney vs toon match.  Not everyday a prem league club comes to nz let alone two!
