Football United - July 2014 West Ham and Newcastle visit

It is really frustrating seeing people trying to justify the prices people are paying to see this on sky. Look at nearly every other country when it comes to sport, like our mobile/internet etc prices this is laughable the amount we are expected to shell out to see teams play. But I guess we've become so used to being bullied into paying these prices that we come to accept and justify it anyway possible.

The money going toward the club is cool, but its still a little silly considering.

I have booked PPV by text message before.

And just to go against the grain of my last 100 posts, I might just bite the bullet and buy the PPV as I'd rather not watch it on a rubbishy stream.

So it really wasn't that expensive after all?

I'll tell you afterwards whether it was worth it.

Been funny so far as Ifill seems quite nervous doing his hosting duties!

Pardew no happy about the pitch...

I made a late decision and booked it

Spent 20mins on hold on the phone (I'm a sky via vodafone customer), but while doing that I found a suspiciously simple way of doing it on sky's website. I didn't trust it until it suddenly started on the tele... that was too easy?

Anyhow, my one bugbear, it appears I can't record this to watch later? What's that about?

Got a 2yo and an 8 month old to get into bed around the 7.30 mark, not cool. I can live pause it seems but it's not the same (was planning on letting the missus whip through shitland street beforehand - looks like I'll have to put the brakes on that)

We are recording it fine, didn't have to do anything different.

Anyone know why they haven't taken a game to Chch instead of Dunedin?

Many people from the UK living here, I'm sure it would have been a sell out! (20k)

Dunedin is underwriting the event I think, or at least the stadium is. Why didn't they do it in sydney though?

I've got Sky via Vodafone and record does work.  When I pressed record it went off to check booking info and looked like it was going to bugger up, but then it came back, and the red R was there.

student city, expensive enough tickets, no real interest in either team from an nz point of view unless a newcastle fan.

Haha, "What would you like to see here tonight?" question to Paul Ifill.

Think he's had to answer that for the 4th time already tonight...

A game like that is a must go to for any football fan. Who you support matters sh.. all.

I hope that's the last pro football game that hole has seen for a while.

As far as I can recall, the Nix were there a couple of years ago playing Melbourne Heart and 3060 turned up.

Like I said, should've taken this to Chch.

Don't throw your pearls before swine

Ok, back to watching the game which is pretty good so far

Think the last game there was v Brisbane and they were top of the league at the time! Rubbish crowd. Dunedin out! Knock down Forsyth Barr and rebuild it on the site of Westpac I say...

I've been to both Nix games there and they were shit attendences. Great stadium, pathetic local support. They're not all students down there. Should have been advertised as Highlanders v Newcastle Cruisaders to get it jammed.

as someone from christchurch aswell i wanted a game here. But students i know down there just aren't interested in football niether are their mates. You really have to be a football fan to want to go as no nz team are playing, those are few and far between in dunedin i feel.

Lonegunmen there were 15,000 at the friendly v Brisbane there when we got hammered 5-1. Think that was more because it away only the 2nd event ever at the new stadium.

Good stadium but I hope we don't bother going there again.

Unlikely, pretty sure you're not allowed to wear tracking devices under FIFA regulations.

And there werent that many in the two Aleague games there, I think the roar game was about 4,000 but I can stand being corrected. And the other game around the same or less.

Kind of, they measure all sorts of things, distance, heart rate etc. Nix players were wearing them in Upper Hutt too.

Newcastle were $2.05 on Bet365. Free money! Wish I'd put on $100000000 now.

Thanks.  Thought they might be trackers/data loggers.  Quite large - might be painful to land on...
