No I get that Tegal. I am not saying he does not have the right to be unhappy about it at all. Its those who were like 'this is shit, we are too defensive, sack Ricki'. Now its 'This is shit, we are too attacking, put the microscope on Ernie'

What about "our tactical approach clearly stopped working/got figured out when we had a bunch of injuries and started getting hammered but Ernie didn't try to tweak it or change the teams shape or approach, so maybe he deserves a little bit of criticism for that"? That's how I feel about it. If Ernie deserves credit for getting our team playing attractive winning football midseason then he should also cop some flak for the manner in which some of this late season losses occurred (not saying injuries and suspensions didn't impact us, just that even after getting torn apart several times we didn't play an extra man in midfield, or even defense, or didn't try to change the shape so our fullbacks weren't our only wide players and consequently getting exposed or caught too far up the field).

Full disclosure: Twitter feed of the Petone - Olympic game was yours truly. Where I stood there was no contact, to my mind photos confirmed that.

Edit: Also didn't think I'd enjoy the pod after the end to the HAL season but I was wrong. Nice job

Yep, from what I saw there was no contact made my George. It just looks like Abba lost his footing between shots 2 and 3. Not a pen in my book.

The ref had one chance to see it and was standing at a very different angle to me where it may have, and probably did, look like contact.

#InTheZone V110 is out at www.yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

This week the pod discusses Alejandro's arrival, Luke's leaving, Wellington Phoenix FCseason in review, and the Hyundai A-League playoffs. Elsewhere Ryan Thomas guides Zwolle to Dutch Cup glory, the first clubs are knocked out of the Chatham Cup, and the team reviews the Souvlaki and football action from Wakefield Park.

Interesting discussion on Boyd not scoring enough and should be a winger, well we didn't play a system with wingers for almost all the season and Boyd was probably the best we had as a forward being able to provide width and penetration. His goal return per min of game time, as shown by PWF's table, was better than a lot of first choice HAL forwards in other teams. He assisted or scored a goal every 155min. People talk about Riera finding his feet being the catalyst for our surge, it was also Boyd who inspired us to wins against Heart and WSW in the beginning of mid season winning streak and you will probably find that Boyd was involved in a lot of our better moments during the season.

Agreed, I think that if you were to compare Boyd to a more famous player he would be similar to Thomas Muller. Both make intelligent runs and draw defenders away from other players and passing channels, but don't really fit into the traditional mold of either a winger or a striker or an attacking mid. Muller scores more but he is in a team which is dominating its opposition constantly (although I just checked and as a percentage of team goals and assists Muller is contributing about twice as much as Boyd).

Not saying Boyd is anywhere near as good as Muller, just that he's the same sort of player. Like saying that Riera is a similar type of player to Makalele or something. My point was Boyd is a player who creates space for his team by being mobile in attacking areas but doesn't fit in the more standard roles that most attacking players can be categorized into.

But I haven't given this an indepth analysis or anything, more just a passing thought about what Boyd brings to the team...

Good end of season round-up. Not saying it was the best goal this season but my personal favourite was Hicks' beautifully curled effort right into the bottom corner past, I think, Birighetti. Top notch goal, and hopefully he keeps improving and adds a few more like that next season.

Be good to hear his take on the season too...

So the Football media awards have opened for nominations again. From memory we came second last year in the audio broadcaster of the year.

We need to nominate 3 pieces of work.  Who can remember 3 good episodes. A stretch I know. They need to be in the 2013 calendar year.

What an excellent idea. If we want to know about James and Eagar, then lets get the horse to dribble about it.

A bumper #InTheZone V113 is out at http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts.

This week the pod chats the latest in Phoenix land with Carlos' departure and positive signs for a Wellington Phoenix FC reserve team. In national football news, the much anticipated World Cup review is out, but no one gets to see it, Oceania expert Gordon Glen Watson talks Oceania Football Confederation Champions League, and Ian Anderson from the Waikato Times and Andrew Voerman from the Christchurch Star contribute to the most comprehensive wrap of the  Chatham Cup in the land.

Good Chatham Cup coverage!

On the point about why you or we or any of us have the right to question NZF, I think you're potentially overthinking it to a degree.  We're all involved in football in NZ, we all care, we're all entitled to ask questions about the way the game is run.  If NZF want to turn around and say sorry, you don't get to ask those questions, or we're not going to answer because this has nothing to do with you, that's up to them.  But I wouldn't exercise self-censorship at this point because in NZ there needs to be more questioning of the national body considering how little consistent media interest there is

I do!

And I note that basically nobody posted in the Effecting Change at NZF for months, despite the fact that right now is the key period in time to be lining up potential candidates for the NZF Board and trying to influence their selection via Federations.

But yeah, actually nobody gives a fuck (or more correctly nobody gives a enough of a fuck to go through all that process in order to engineer a better outcome).

My 2 cents

I come from a rugby mad family, I came across to he beautiful game during the crest of the 09/10 season and 2010 world cup. I live in Sydney and come to this place (yellowfever) 4-5 times a week to keep up to date with the Kiwi game.
From this point I've fallen in love with the game, playing it all year round. I recently had a trail at a national premier league side which I would never have thought possible 5 years ago. I've even convinced my rugby dad to watch football.

I care about the football landscape in New Zealand because without it I wouldn't have found one of my biggest passions in life. I for one would love to know all the details and findings for the failed campaign, because I am genuinely interested in knowing how it is going to be fixed. Some of my best memories are waking my dad up to watch New Zealand vs Slovakia and Italy games.

I want to relive  those moments, that is why I am interested.

In regards to the effecting change in NZF, I feel its kinda hard for the Kiwi contingent that are international and cannot effect federations. I for one just want a dialogue, in which transparency is clear and evident.

Sure NZ is not going to make every world cup, but it is really heartbreaking as a fan thinking that we didn't do the best we possibly could in the preparation (CHIVAS game much), especially when we are the ones travelling and watching. Or spending early hours of the morning watching international matches.

This is a sport played for the fans afterall...
