I agree that we should have first right of refusal on our season
seat (during the first week of sales only open to season
members).
Given the choice between buying extra tickets or having your
own seat, what would you prefer? Most people seem to prefer the
former - but I didn't care either way.
Alternatively, I guess they could have done this:
1) x days of pre-sales where members can only buy their own
seats.
2) x days where members can buy up to an additional 7 seats
each of what remains
3) general sale to the public
Anyone who wants to sit with non-season ticket
holding friends would have to wait until phase 2 to buy any
tickets - which would no doubt generate complaints!
Assuming this approach was used, the problem then comes down
to systems. Ticketek would need to somehow control that you are not
quoting someone else's season ticket details during phase 1
(imagine if you were guaranteed your exact seat and Ticketek didn't
check that the purchaser was the seat holder) and also have loaded
all season ticket allocation details against the Galaxy event (to
know the seat).
Given how much of a mess Ticketek made of season ticket sales,
would you want to make them implement something more complex than
what they did - merely referenced a list of valid member
numbers?
I think the Phoenix got it right. No-one got shafted - despite
melodramatic claims to the contrary - and we're all around the
place we want to be.
