I know what it is. Its a f**king stupid word. Up there is Nek minnit. Mantrol doesn't even make sense.... I could do one equally stupid like sh*tlet: taking a sh*t on the toilet. Doesn't make it a cool word to use or any f**king sense.

Reminds me of that other word they made up on a drink driving ad 'Manus'. No one I knew ever heard of that word until that ad.

You are right though. Retardedness really winds me up.

Must win to stay right in contention, don't want to slip down into the melbourne/jets/adelaide camp.
Overtaking still a possibility in the future, we have a game in hand on them.

Easy for me to say this from my warm dry bedroom from which I didn't need to emerge to brave the famous Wellington elements, but if you Nix can string together some away form at last and return with some valuable points at the end of the month then, maybe, I'll forgive today's forgettable efforts.ahmad2012-01-08 19:56:53

If we win our remaining home games we will come 6th. If we can win a few away games we will push for a home playoff. If we don't win all our home games and don't win any away games we will not make the playoffs.

Are you saying win the remaining home games and drop all points in Australia and we can't fall below 6th??

Amazing. Seems like Perth has been rubbish all season, yet they're only 3 points behind us with a game in hand.

Nope, basing it on an Excel spreadsheet that has an algorithm that predicts what the table will look like at the end of the season. It's fairly accurate normally, but isn't certain.

are you using the same algorithm SiNZ??

and that was still a horrible game

The four teams below us can all catch us if they win their catchup games....but we still have a better goal difference.

So the million dollar question is our away form. If we stay true to form than we can expect maybe 3 or 4 points in our 7 away games. If we win the 3 last home games we end up with a total of 33 or 34...which may be enough to get top 6  but won't give us a home playoff game. It will be  a close run thing

Very tight for 4th-6th. Broich will be back soon, so can't see the Roar being pulled back into the pack.

Heart have this one sewn up and should move into second place thus a 4 point gap between 3rd and 4th.

Heart looked much less confident at the back without Madaschi. They have Perth and CCM next week, so couple bad results and they will be back in the pack.

We have three out of our four remaining home games against the Mariners, Roar and Heart. The current top 3 sides. We will have to be on top of our game to get max points out of those games

Good question. Of course each season has a slightly different number of games but here's what happened (the points in the middle is after the same number of games played so far this season).

07/08 - DLLWDWLLLLWLDDLW - 16 pts - DWLLL - 20 pts (21 games)
08/09 - DLLDLWDWLLWWWLDW - 22 pts - LWLDL - 26 pts (21 games)
09/10 - LWDLDDDDDDWLWDWL - 20 pts - DLDWWWLLWWW - 40 pts (27 games)
10/11 - DWLLWDLWLDLLWLLW - 18 pts - DLWLWDWLWLWWLW - 41 pts (30 games)
11/12 - DWLLLDDWLWWLWLWL - 21 pts

Turn one of the away losses into a win and we are back into playoffs contention.

A prediction..... Two Wins  a draw and a loss from our final home Games =7 Points.
One Win and three draws and three losses = 6 points
= 34 Points giving us a final position of 6th.

See if you asked me last Friday I'd have a rosier outlook but we were just so depressingly, despairingly awful on Sunday even 10 points strikes me as a stretch.

I was talking us up as being in contention for a home playoff again at the Backbencher before the game on Sunday. Now I think we will be lucky to make the playoffs.

As much as it pains me (and it does) to say it, who really cares if we make the playoffs or not?

The more important question in my mind is whether we can actually win any of our games in Australia, and whether we can do so with any conviction, because 6th is frankly as good as 8th or 9th given our unlikely chance of progressing further from that rank.

We've made the play-offs before, and that shouldn't be the goal any longer for this team. They are more than capable of finishing in the top 6. The question now is how far they can go in the play-offs, which essentially means they either have to get a top 4 position, or start to learn how to win at least some games on the road.

Kind of agree Ahmad, but 6th and making playoffs for 3rd year is a hell of a lot better than getting 8th or 9th, especially given pre season shennanigans. Even if we do get the arse in round 1.

I think making the 6 wiould be a fantastic result all things considered
