Win tonight and we guarantee a home final. COYN
Anyone else dislike how we're supposed to call the first round of the playoffs a final? There's nothing final about it unless you lose. Win and you get through to the quarters.
Unless someone follows the A-League structure, they get very confused and think we've done better than we have. I guess that's the point - to try and make games sound more important than they are to attract casual fans?
I remember trying to explain our performance in 2010 to someone who only follows things loosely. He asked, so you're in the final? No. We're in the first round of the playoffs.
Then we beat Perth so he said, now you're in the final? No. We're into the next round, the quarter-finals.
We beat Newcastle and then asked, so you're in the final now aren't you? No. This is a semi-final. If we win our next match we're in the final... He gave up asking after that.
