League Table 2013/2014 Season

My pick after three games of the worst teams in the comp this season, not the same as the league table ranks them, though all are in the bottom five. Other five teams have a bit more class. In order of awfulness:

1. Melbourne Heart (Harry Kewell won't save them)  2. Newcastle Jets (very average in most departments but had a good day against a Nix side with a bit more quality than them but just had a bad game) 3. Perth Glory (apart from a handful of established names like Smetlz, Burns, Cernak, Thwaite, mostly a squad of youngsters and no-names - but could be dangerous if Smeltz and new signing Gallas fire) 4. Phoenix (similar level to Perth I'm thinking, but hard to tell until a few more games pass; Brockie, Hernandez, Cunningham, Huysegems, Ifill on paper amongst best attacking potential in league - but will they fire? Fullbacks a concern. Not much midfield creativity apart from Hernandez.) 5. Sydney FC (Have an awful defence but okay attack).

We're only two points outside the six.

Yeah, not kidding at all. The order is points, goal difference, goals for, points in games between the two teams in the season, lowest red cards, lowest yellow cards, then a coin toss. We are equal with Heart right up to the yellow cards.

A point against the Jets at least means this is no longer the equal worst start to the season EVER!

Bloody poofball.  What a joke of a "sport".

As proud Wellingtonians we should be recognising our yachting heritage.  Nobody does it better (apart from Auckland and the Americans).

Perth up this weekend - is it already this weekend.

It has been a very tough start to the season, playing 3 of the top 4 teams in the league.

It sounds a bit dramatic but this weekend is a must win game. We can't come back to the RoF on 1st Dec near the bottom of the table, if we expect to have a decent crowd. Its a bit hard to sell 'but we are playing well, just not getting the points we deserve' to the casual fan.

So we have a match in 4 days time after which a good chunk of the squad rush to the airport and fly over to Mexico.

For the rest there is a week off and then three days after the return WC match in Wgtn the squad are over in Blingsville, before coming back home eight days later.

What could possibly go wrong here?

That's great term, gives us some perspective on how we are going. I don't expect great things this season. I'm calling it the season of learning - Where the players learn that route one is not the best style and that passing can happen on a football field and yeild results eventually.

Not much in it.  Three "results" (win or draw) is only one away from every other season.  And we are unlucky not to have had a win and at least another draw in a tough early bunch of games, under a new coach with a new playing style and with the travel and AWs distraction.  

I think we'll be all right once Cunningham is up and running and I think it does look like he'll get there.  Plus if Brockie can freshen up and get a bit of confidence back.  Don't think we are far away and a few home home games and a freshen up for the AWs will definitely help.

Same two shit teams last year are the same two shit teams this year.

We need to play the shit team derby so some one can get a win

Sadly there is plenty of time for them to find form before we finally get a chance to play them :-(
