That much-improved goal difference after the MV game will work miracles for us once we win a couple more games. We seem to be improving while Sydney FC is slipping down; and the Jets are in turmoil and may have a stumble too, after GVE sacking. Adelaide on the other hand are getting back in a better shape and will be harder to move past.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

so really we could get into 5th place

If Wanderers & Victory win on Sunday, there will be a big gap between the top 4 and chasing pack.

Not only that, we need another 30 pts from 18 games to reach a target of 34 pts (which is the average pts required to make the play-offs in a 27 game season). The most pts we have ever got from the last 18 games is 31, the average is 25.

#dontstopbelievin

Combinations to get to 30 points in 18 games:

W D L
10 0 8
9 3 6
8 6 3
7 9 2
6 12 0

Now 17 points in 11 games

W D L
5 2 4
4 5 2
3 8

After 16 games...

07/08 - DLLWDWLLLLWLDDLW - 16pts - DWLLL - 20pts (21 games)

08/09 - DLLDLWDWLLWWWLDW - 22pts - LWLDL - 26pts (21 games)

09/10 - LWDLDDDDDDWLWDWL - 20pts - DLDWWWLLWWW - 40 pts (27 games)

10/11 - DWLLWDLWLDLLWLLW - 18pts - DLWLWDWLWLWWLW - 41 pts (30 games)

11/12 - DWLLLDDWLWWLWLWL - 21pts - WWWWLLWWDLL - 40 pts (27 games)

12/13 - WDDLLLWDWLLDWLLL - 16pts - LDWLLDLWLWL - 27 pts (27 games)

13/14 - LDDLDLDLLLWWWDWL - 17pts

Jeez, even with that good run we are still slumming it  - only one point better than our worst start(s) to the season ever.

Only 5 points off our best ever though.

Hard to believe that even at this stage there is only 6 points difference between our best and worst ever season.

It's only ten teams so it is reasonably easy for middling teams like us (factual statement, not an emotional one) the difference between best and worst performance (seasonwise) is unlikely to be much.
In contrast, teams consistently performing well season-in season-out would find it hard in a bad season to say "only a few points from our best performance". An example would be a CCM in a bad year.

Taking into account the Victory have played an extra game, 4th to 9th are effectively covered by 2 points. Wins in the next couple weeks will put us in a strong position to challenge for 4th place.

Roar will win the Premiership, I have little doubt about that but the Toilet Seat is a lottery. We are in touching distance of 4th spot, get into the finals and anything is possible. We have a great chance of getting a home finals game and should be aiming for that.

Next round:

SFC v ADU

MBH v PTH

NUJ v WPX

a couple of draws in those first two games (or Heart beating Perth), and a win for us = 'Nix 5th, and if CCM beat MBV, also only one point off 4th

some-one better anti-jinx that wishful thinking, pronto

When I look at this, there is a real chance to put in a strong run because I believe that those 8/10 games (Jets x2, Heart x2, Adelaide x2 and Perth x1, CCM x1 Sydney x1, Victory x1) are winnable (and by that I mean a combination of our form, their form, table position and H/A)

Perhaps the rubbish draw on Boxey's bitch has actually worked in our favour?

Grumpy old bastard alert

Could argue that both Adeliade and Heart are better than they were in the first few months. And we still have to play each of them twice.

I think all the games are winnable but none can be taken for granted, not even heart at home. If the players keep playing well we will make the top 6, at this stage we don't have to worry about what other teams do. I just hope we can keep the form up and maybe build a buffer quickly to take a little pressure off for the last few games.

On average, our opposition have 20 points. Victory, CCM, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Newcastle all in the 23-24 mark. Our average opponent will be in 6.9th place. Perth (4.9), Sydney (5.3), Newcastle (5.4) Adelaide (5.5), CCM (5.6), and Victory (5.8)

Equi-distance from our best and worst seasons now, but only headed in one direction...

Will be doing well to match 11/12 over the next few weeks though.

Why? 5 wins, a draw and 4 losses... We should be doing better than that with our remaining games I hope.

Permalink Permalink

'Few' meaning a small number, like 3, not the rest of the season. In 11/12 we went WWW over the next 3 rounds.

That said, a return of 16 pts (5 wins and a draw) from our last 10 games would probably be good enough for the play-offs.
