Most people would rather have Rojas than Lia though. In fact i think any A-League club would.

I'd rather have Lia than Marco (possibly not on the pitch but...am I being selfish?)

End of an era.  Vinnie - It's over.

if Marco ever reads this I hope he understands that we are only grumpy about this because noone is telling us what's happening. I wish he'd just come out and say "I want to leave and am looking elsewhere" or "I love it here and am starying"

This is the interview with his father, starts at about 7 minutes in.
http://www.radiosport.co.nz/ThisWeek/21845.wma
I am completely lost now. No idea what is going on. He did say that he hasn't signed, nor even decided, but expects this to be resolved fairly soon. Melbourne are probably favourites (but didn't sound definate on that). Marco has a lot of say in the decision but as a father he has some influence. Playing for the All Whites is a possibility (sounded enthusiastic) but he has to keep options open.

WTF did the club come out saying he had signed with victory? If there was a chance of him staying doing $hit like that isn't really helpful.

his father was just being evasive. I doubt anything is actually signed but it's pretty clear he wants to move someweher else - apparently where Marco can build on other skills, as far as playing for NZ that too is pretty unclear....

Or "I am not sure and trying to make a decision".

I would have rather not known about any of this until it was confirmed.

Why is the club trying to f**k us about then?! Are they thinking if Marco sees the fan reaction he'd be more likely to stay?

One thing I thought was weird is at the start of the interview he talked about taking him to Chile to play, presumably, club football to learn more about the game. I didn't realise that was an option.
Edit: Didn't really think he was that evasive. Probably talked more than he should of :). He seemed pretty genuine but IMO a bit over-protective.rjmiller2011-02-28 20:52:24

My theory is that Nathan G was tired of being dicked around by what he might have seen as bad-faith negotiation from the Rojas camp, so decided to just come out with what everyone knew was happening anyway to make them put up or shut up.

If you want a really out there conspiracy theory....Rodi has a verbal agreement with Ange but nothing can be signed until he officially takes over at Victory because Ernie dopesn't even know its happening.

I've got to know Rodi pretty well over the last couple of years.  News knows him too.

He's a genuinely decent guy, who knows the game, and has his son's best interests at heart.

I am also familiar with the work of some of the A-League's leading "agents".  The same cannot be said of them.  They are neither decent, knowledgable nor interested in their players.

If you think Rodi is a bad man for helping his 19 year old son make life-changing career decisions then I think you are bonkers.  He is doing exactly what all parents would do, giving their son their advice, and then the support to make his own decision.  Like News does when he helps junior news choose between KFC and Burger King.

Rodi is not playing subbuteo with Marco (although Marco IS small enough) and it's insulting to Marco to suggest he's so easily controlled.  He's a sharp kid, who is more than capable of making his own decisions.

hmmm, so my source was right. He called me at 5.30 ranting about how nothing was signed (see earlier post asking about lack of  official statement from Victory) and all the clowns on YF that were abusing Marco weren't helping.

almost ironic, YF get him to Nix, YF help push him away. gotta love the passion though

Did you not get the joke? The thread was created because there was a photo of Vince Lia on a story saying Rojas was leaving.

Can I just make one sensible point here folks.

If Marco has decided to move on regardless to where that may be and he then in turn moves onwards and upwards from that new place, people will look back at the end of his career and note that it all started in Wellington.

But if for any reason he flops and doesn't progress any further in his career past his next club, people will still look back and say that his career started in Wellington and that it was not Wellington Phoenix fault that he failed to live up to the hype.

Either way it is not a blight on the Wellington Phoenixs' record of producing a promising young footballer when other better resourced clubs  in the same league have struggled to do the same.

All positives for Wellington Phoenix I believe!

No Luis.  I think you missed the joke.  The poster in question wears a bra decorated with black and yellow and the number 17.  Re-Read it as though it's written by Vinnie's own personal stalker.

Nothing you haven't read in this thread. No signing, Ernies will never talk about potential signings. Completely changed the subject when the interviewer pressed.

Melbourne Victory coach Ernie Merrick has denied the club has signed rising Kiwi star Marco Rojas, despite suggestions from Wellington Phoenix that he had agreed to make the move to Victoria.

Rojas, 19, has impressed for the Phoenix in the recently completed Hyundai A-League campaign and has become one of the hottest properties in the league in recent weeks, with several clubs linked to his signature.

Wellington chief executive Nathan Greenham said on Sunday that Rojas had told the club he was leaving, with Melbourne the destination.

The story goes on for much longer but that's the bulk of it, just goes on about the AFC match after that.

Thank you Mr Smeef, some balance brought to this thread full of speculation, anger, hatred and vitriol.....shame on some of you!!!

I also know the family and Rodi is a good man, Marco is a fine young man and together they will decide what is best for this promising lads footballing future.  You do not own him and are quick to forget he has brought all of us some amazing footballing moments in his short time on the ptich this season and almost single handedly got us into the playoffs when our season seemed over.....

Less of the abuse please, the name calling and the vile hatred.....wait until a decision is made and a statement is made by Rodi or Marco and whatever he chooses at least offer some opinion rather than mindless abuse.  Some of you seriously have no idea and should go back to believing everything you read in The Sun and the Mirror....

Whatever Marco decides, wherever he he ends up playing his football next season and beyond I will support him as I am a fan of his style and talent and the way he plays the game.

Great analogy with the Junior News/KFC/BK example Smeef.....Bru and I currently cleaning up a lounge fuill of wee after wetting ourselves!!!
