So why did greeneggsandham make a comment to the press that he is moving to Melbourne if this is not the case (yet)

Major screw up if that's what has happened.
Before he gave that interview there were already quotes strongly suggesting it out in the media. I suspect this negotiation has been handled badly from Phoenix and Rodi. Both should have said less to everyone else.

Shall I play the Frankie Mac game?

I suspect the full facts are somewhere in the middle.  You have a number of parties not entirely used to dealing with the media being asked questions and not thinking carefulloy about the implication of their answers.
its hardly a frankie game if the entire situation actually changes though.

People reacted according to what was reported by the phoenix to have happened. (some people massively overeacted, and they're idiots...) but people being pissed off at the news was probably fair enough and inevitable. You'd think you would watch what you say as the CEO of a football club when it comes to the media.

He definetly did say he had made his decision to move on,and melbourne is a great club. I can see how the media probably asked the questions very seperately then edited them together (Thundersticks ) but it doesn't change the fact he quite obviously said Marco was moving on to another A league club.

f**k this thread is stoopid.  I wonder how many times either News or Smithy posted that he hadn't signed, only for you crazy bunch to put the boot in at every opportunity.

Id believe the CEO of the club over HN and smithy
Also add the fact the title of the thread was changed to confirmed, and never changed. Tegal2011-02-28 21:40:22

Listen to the interview with Rodi. He said they are looking at 2 contracts from OTHER A-league teams & one from overseas. No mention of them looking at the offer from Nix.
NG stated that Marco has  informed them he is leaving. Sounds like the only decision that is final at the moment is that Marco is leaving.

You blokes who know Rodi ..have you listened to Rodi's interview? Has he lived in NZ all his life?
He has no detectable accent and sounds more like a Kiwi, rather than someone from Chile.Surprising, just saying.
He had nothing to say that was derogatory re the so-called" mickey mouse" AW friendlies when asked, in fact sounded quite supportive. On possible AW selection ...all in good time.. the under 20's the priority and where he had committed to be available for.

I can see the attraction to Melbourne Victory if Ange P goes there. Perhaps they are delaying their decision until this is finalised or otherwise.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Well,as pointed out.

What have we been told:

Rojas is leaving the phoenix.
Melbourne havent signed Rojas.
Rojas is looking at offers from a couple of clubs.

Logically: Rojas is leaving the phoenix for an as yet unknown club.
Realistically: No bloody idea anymore. But its been handled terribly by the club.

So if he does stay, then he wouldn't be here because he wanted to be here? That could cause some loyalty issues, it may be Jade North all over again...

I don't get what all this stuff is about his Dad?

Its all highly unfair, there is nothing at all to suggest his Dad is controlling Rojas in any way. There is no reason to suggest that his Dad would even want to push him away from the phoenix at all.

Its all very stupid.

There are only a handful of people who know how well it was handled.  But people have tended to brush over the possibility.

You're twisting words.

I just stated what we'd been told by clubs and agents at different times.

Nobody really knows what Marco is thinking.

ffs rationality is not a huge part of being a football supporter - you would've thought some people here have never seen similar reactions to players leaving football clubs before..

The fact is - the Rojas situation was unique. You guys had an active part in his development and he is the first young player to *really* break through at our club. (Sorry Kosta...and O'Dor) It's not surprising that to many it feels like a proverbial kick in the balls.

Obviously some people have gone too far but what do you expect? Some of these supporters are 12, 13, 14 year old kids that looked up to Marco.

Marco is old enough to deal with the consequences of his decisions.valeo2011-02-28 21:58:31

So which mod closed the "Please Stay Marco" thread at 6pm yesterday then?

Don't blame us for rushing through the door labelled "Angst" when it was the only one open!

The hate is only there cos we want him to stay so much - if he leaves cos of the 'hate' he is an idiot, and the real idiots on here are people thinking it makes a f**king difference - NEWSFLASH: HE'S GOING WHERE IT"S BEST FOR HIM - NOT COS SOME PEOPLE ON AN INTERNET FORUM GET UPSET FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.

I wish I got this much abuse for choosing to leave a club/job whatever.

It's like "I want a divorce" "OK, sweet, you do what's best for you - have a great life, love you."

Facebook hate is totally stupid though, agreed.

But if he stays, people will love him again anyway.

Never have I ever read such a load of crap as we have had on this subject today.
Why don't we all sit back and wait for the facts to emerge. There have been some discraceful comments from people who should know better.
If Marco does leave, then it is his decision and his only and whatever his reasons he has to stand by them.
It is not for anyone ksele to tell him what he should do.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Just to stir the pot some more, here's a quote from someone claiming to be his Uncle

"Rather amusing to read all of your comments on this. With Marco being my nephew, I had a chat with him earlier today and he confirmed that this is all blown way out of proportion and is a complete rumour. He hasn't signed with Victory, he hasn't left the Phoenix. He's currently in talks with both teams, but nothing has been decided yet. Way to go Dominion Post for publishing this rumour as fact..."

Perhaps we should all just calm down and wait to hear the real story
