Krishna took a full season as a pro before he was a league level.
Is be happy to take a risk on Semmy if we had a kiwi or au striker who we were sure would get to high double figures but we don't. We're better to wait until January now, unless Semmy was happy with a contract which has a performance clause for the January window.
How many import strikers have been successes? What are the odds of getting one who is likely to arrive this late (or in January) and hit the ground running?
Even if Semmy takes a year to get up to speed then we take the hit on that year's development now and get the payoff next season. If you look at Krishna's entire career for us then the period where he found his feet seems to have been completely worth it. Any import striker at this stage will be a massive gamble anyway.
Krishna was scoring for fun in the nzfc and we need someone for this season
Semmy has 17 goals in 31 games in NZ domestic football playing for a worse team than Krishna ever did.
I agree that getting a player for this season would be ideal but I think the odds of finding an import striker who is a) affordable) b) available c) willing to come here d) good enough to slot right in and score consistently, at this stage in the season when most global domestic leagues are well underway are just super low. I think there's probably a 90% or more chance you get someone like Sarpong or something, or at best a guy who struggles to get up to speed, maybe scores five goals over the season and then leaves next year. Both the Chilean guy and the Japanese guy seem like they are more likely to be this type of signing than a Fornaroli or something
Semmy might not have an immediate impact but would be cheaper and more fitting with the clubs plan to develop our own talent where possible
