Takasaki has played for one of Japan's biggest clubs at the height of his career, Kashima Antlers, in the Asian Champions League in 2015.

Six appearances, two goals.

Both goals came against mighty Guangzhou Evergrande.

Here's his winner against Guangzhou Evergrande in the first leg:

Ties it up at about 1.20 m. in the second leg:

Does the club know the leagues starts next weekend? Might call them to let them know just in case.

The club are very well aware of the lack of a striker signing. Fingers crossed it will be rectified.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Would people rather we sign this Japanese guy or try get a better ST in jan?

Its not as if they havnt tried sadly they arnt allowed to put a gun to a strikers head to force him to sign. Would rather they wait till they find who they want than just sign someone for the sake of it.Can just imagine the shouts from some on here if they sign someone who they dont like.

Am I right in thinking there's no way a visa striker could be at Uffie's disposal by Sunday week? Even if we file the paperwork first thing tomorrow surely 5 working days won't be enough for Immigration NZ? So more likely available for week 2 or 3?

On a different note I really hope we sign Lewis. He's looked classy in all the OlyWhites highlights...

Even if we were to sign him in the next week surely he won't be starting nor on the bench at least for week 1 and then slowly intergrate from the bench in the coming weeks.

Depends on whether they are waiting for the visa to be granted before announcing the signing

Hmmmm interesting...

Lewis may in fact be signing, but this doesn't mean much considering they have just spent a few weeks together with the Oly Whites.

A league transfer window closes in 1 week on 15 Oct. !!

Can someone explain this rule?

Does it mean after that date we cannot sign anyone before the next window?  What about uncontracted imports or NZ players?

I understand we could still sign free agents/amateurs after the window closes

Not really ideal that we're still missing the biggest part of the puzzle. The biggest challenge this off season was replacing Krishna, and I don't think we've done it - not a big surprise as it was always going to be a difficult task.

What is our current squad size? IIRC its 19 with Waine on a scholarship contract, so we need to sign someone by the 15th to get us to 20.

Pretty sure we're over the minimum.

Minimum is 20 senior deals and we are at 19, so Bullion is right, we need to sign 1 more player. I think the deadline to meet the 20 man squad is this Friday, rather than when the transfer window closes on the 15th.

Let's hope Clayton Lewis is a done deal then...

Suggesting maybe a done and unannounced deal?

Could also sign an academy player to a fulltime contract (probably Sutton) if need be.

Or promote Waine to a senior deal a season early.

My mistake, then! Sorry Bullion. Thought for sure we passed this a while back.

Just a thought with no striker signed yet and not sure if the jap guy is going to be signed or not. Tommy Semmy doesn't seem like a bad addition now..

Krishna took a full season as a pro before he was a league level.

Is be happy to take a risk on Semmy if we had a kiwi or au striker who we were sure would get to high double figures but we don't. We're better to wait until January now, unless Semmy was happy with a contract which has a performance clause for the January window.

How many import strikers have been successes? What are the odds of getting one who is likely to arrive this late (or in January) and hit the ground running?

Even if Semmy takes a year to get up to speed then we take the hit on that year's development now and get the payoff next season. If you look at Krishna's entire career for us then the period where he found his feet seems to have been completely worth it. Any import striker at this stage will be a massive gamble anyway.

Krishna was scoring for fun in the nzfc and we need someone for this season

I think the chances are that Semmy would be more Totori-like than Krishna-like in the A-league. The fact that upper-tier Handy Prem sides (and in particular ACFC) haven't gone after him is pretty telling.

Semmy has 17 goals in 31 games in NZ domestic football playing for a worse team than Krishna ever did.

I agree that getting a player for this season would be ideal but I think the odds of finding an import striker who is a) affordable) b) available c) willing to come here d)  good enough to slot right in and score consistently, at this stage in the season when most global domestic leagues are well underway are just super low. I think there's probably a 90% or more chance you get someone like Sarpong or something, or at best a guy who struggles to get up to speed, maybe scores five goals over the season and then leaves next year.  Both the Chilean guy and the Japanese guy seem like they are more likely to be this type of signing than a Fornaroli or something

Semmy might not have an immediate impact but would be cheaper and more fitting with the clubs plan to develop our own talent where possible

Thought he had been given a trial and didn't get a contract,if that's the case. Why would we sign him now.

That's right. The other thing also, going back to Krishna, is that he managed to get to the A-league only on his third go - his first two trials with A-league clubs failed. It is a bigger step up than most people realise (although it's probably a bit easier now than a few years back).

Because we thought we were going to get a gun import striker so we didn't have space for another foreigner in our squad. That deal fell through so now we do have space

When were Krishna's other attempts at the A League? Were they just trials we gave him?

Very early on with us, maybe around 2008? And then with North Queensland Fury, which may have been around 2010 or 2011?

And it's possible that Talay looked at Semmy and considered him a 7/10. But decided to chase a 9/10. Failed to, and therefore goes back to his 7/10 option
