back to being serious - why the f**k does Ricki Pervert play one up front ? (greenacre)

if the ball ACTUALLY GETS TO HIM - what can he do with it ? he has no support. And it's even worse when the mid-field puts a high ball to him. He can only chest it ........ then wait and wait..... or the flick on (which goes to no one)

i do not know why he always puts up a lone striker.

we play better with 2 up front.

Agreed.

I second that agreement.

I enjoyed watching Crowther play.  Some of you have said he looked really nervous or hyper'.  I'm sure he had the old butterflies in the stomach at the start, naturally, but I expect he will look hyper' for most of his career.  I imagine it is just his way of playing.  He took in a couple of sharp shots with lovely soft hands and he looks acrobatic.  I know that in itself doesn't make you a good keeper but it is fun to watch

We battled hard first half without looking dangerous and were pushing up on Sydney. Second half I hate to say it but the half wit commentators were more tactically aware than RH, our defence kept moving deeper and our midfield were also.

Unless Greenacre was injured that substitution was about trying to sneak away with a draw.

If Ferrante and McKain continue to be static and hide when we are in possession then we'll continue to lump it aimlessly from the back, to our lone striker who is a willing worker but not set up for the aimless long ball. For those that continue to knock Daniel just watch his movement off the ball compared to the rest of the midfield, at least he is making himself available.

When are you lot playing the Mariners? Definitely one to avoid = the most boring, defensive teams in the A-League.

Has to be 0-0. lol.

Lots of things to be frustrated about today, and whilst this one is not top of my list, it is my most consistent one.

Daniel. One good cross in 2.1 seasons does not a player make. Discuss.

One? surely you're not serious. first season he was class, second not so much. Looked good last week can't complain about the assist. he was pretty ineffective tonight but really who wasn't? I think if he gets back to first season form then he'd be starting but currently he's just bench material.

For me Felippe was the better player in Season 1. Just keep thinking that Ricky got them mixed up when offering new contracts.

Oh well - lets just forget this game and look forward to next week.

I disagree. I thought it was because he wanted more effort. Daniel is not and 'effort' guy

We weren't lacking for effort, though. We were lacking any kind of movement going forward.

and while i'm angry...I'm not sure what is with all the bullsh*te Brown hating that has sprung up on this site...

but if anyone is going to give Ferrante that much credit for his soft chip that the keeper got to- I was just wondering if you think Brown with his goals against Sydney for a win and his great equaliser that set Smeltz up for his match winner against Melbourne would have really been that much worse...

Has Ferrante ever scored a goal worth a damn? no. but he has missed some quality chances.

Can't take anything good away from the game, but don't think anyone player had a shocker. The tactics or combinations weren't working today, and it is a pity that we broke our hold on Sydney...hate them more than GC...

I think we just got outplayed...ish. Was just one of those unfortunate games,it happens.

I do think RH tends to play too defensively away from home however...even in media interviews he says so..i dont get why hes so afraid of playing attacking football away from home.

He says things like "At home I think it's important for people to come [to Wellington] and find it difficult, but I think we'll be a little bit more cautious going away from home,"

I dont get it...

We broke our hold on Sydney last year when we went there and they played a side of kids that we should have hammered, and we let them gain confidence until they finished over the top of us...  this game reminded me of that, where there was an obvious weakness in the Sydney side and we didn't get stuck in enough to take atvantage of it.

Just disappointing.

A little disapointed that we didnt have the attacking flair that we should have. Diego isn't working. It could be time to give Daniel his run. I doubt he is what we need either. I think we hasve to find a Fred type player sooner rather than later

Jesus give diego time. Is annoying because reserve team would be ideal for the daniel vs diego situation...

Yeah but do we honestly think Diego has what it takes to lead this team and direct play through the midfield?

At first I thought he could, but now I am not so sure.

Of course he has creative ability, as does Daniel, but both would be more effective with someone in the middle who can really control that midfield.

Do we really think Daniel can? He did tend to disappear too much there last season remember.

Best choice is to give diego a chance to settle, maybe give daniel a bit more of a go in one or two games. As i say,is tricky without a reserve side for players to play themselves into form in

we all agree last season wasn't Daniel's best, sure he goes missing on occasions, but last night Diego was never really in the game, he seemed quite lazy to me put very little effort in and then had the scowl of death when he was called off he pitch...like he had no reason to be pulled - I'd like ot see lia start and Daniel to come on in the 65th ish, Ferrante cannot be seriously considered, if Brown is fit i'd hope he gets back on the pitch.

I don't think we need to keep looking for a single player to come in and fix it all.  We could have won tonight if instead of pulling Greenacre off for Hearfield, we pushed forward and attacked.  As soon as we took off Greenacre we pretty much went to a 4-6-0 formation, Sydney knew there was no danger anymore and pushed forward with abandon.

What I want to know is why Ricki is obviously trying to hold 0-0 draws, football is an attacking game.

Maybe we could have won if we had managed to fluke a goal but we were by far the second best team out there because of the defensive attitude.

One player could be a major major fix. This team is almost there and one player of Freds calibre in the middle to create chances and let these guys score goals like we've seen they can and things might start happening. Ifill's looking hot right now as well as Leo but who's helping? None of the ones we have are the answer but McKain, Ferrante, Brown, Lia even Daniel would all be far better players with a great middle of the park playmaker around them. Lockhead and Muscat would look better going forward and might push more if there's space

Diego was never going to be that player and won't be. Ricki said in the press that he has had health and fitness issues. True, but why start him then? Even if it's true, that is hardly the reason he was dragged before the break. I'd last longer than that and I've got serious fitness issues

I've slept on it and I'm now certain we should have conceded in the first ten so we had to attack, just to change the mindset (and to help my Sydney half/ Phoenix win and Sydney half/ draw bets).

Jet lag? From a 2 hour flight between Australia and NZ? Come on!

As for the game, just very poor, disjointed, lazy performance.

I already don't think that Diego 'has it', and while some people have said he played well in previous games, I'm afraid I just didn't really see it.

One thing that bothers me slightly is constantly just seeing Ricki sitting on that bench saying nothing for the entire game - does he ever get up and issue instructions??

Sometimes this approach can work BUT, I don't think this team is capable of defending well enough to come away with 0-0 draws or 1-0 wins from these games. Ok, last week we got the 1-1 draw but that only happened because the cautious approach was ditched and we took the game to them.

Our strongest point this season seems to be attacking, so I'd be in favour of 'going for it' and losing 4-3 away from home rather than losing 2-0 in an extremely dull game which would probably have turned the casual observer back off the Phoenix again.
