WSW really know how to bring out the worst in a game of football. I cant remember them being a part of a single entertaining match thus far.

We're hardly the entertainers of the league ourselves though, are we?

I thought against Sydney and Jest we played some good football. Thats 2 more games than WSW have managed

Bloody cold day, howling gale, perhaps should have stayed home like numerous soft cocks do!!! Sod that, there to support my team whatever the weather and how they are playing, harden the f*** up and get along to support!  Courtesy of that poor effort by us (the supporters as a group) we now hold the record as the lowest crowd in the league this season!!! Sure some decent weather would be nice but FFS we live in Wellington. Crap weather is our lot! Harden the F*** up, and get your collective arses to the match. If we can not manage a crowd of 10k, why should Welnix continue to support with cash???

It was freezing, and with 2 teams playing that I didn't give a shit about. So sue me for not turning up.

Lol at freezing. Harden up you ponce. Its the same shit you had to sit through for the Nix. I just dont see why people couldnt turn up, if for nothing else then the good of the game.

agreed.....I'll always be there fore the nix but curtain raisers that are mesningless (to me) won't get me there earlier. Besides it would cost me more in chips and beer.

I turned up for the Phoenix didn't I?

Why you expect 1000s of people in wellington to turn up on a pretty crap windy day to watch Waikato play manawatu is beyond me.

This tbf.

A few hundred for that match would be an achievement, and that's if either of them were actually at home!

Three for me, and two for them.

I never said 1000s, i expected more than a couple of dozen though. It was the same for the Team Wellington match, NZF and Welnix will probably look at all this now and say 'nah no more curtain raisers'.

How about showing up for the next Team Wellington curtain raiser? It'll probably be the last ...

Club will be concerned this morning about that attendance yesterday, but it wasn't a surprise. The 4.30 k.o is geared for families, and there's no way M, D and the kids were gonna get blown to bits just walking up from the railway station, let alone at the game. Good idea to weight our programme with away games early on. Oct/Nov is always when the gales kick-in.

I was just about to say this about the families. It's one thing to say to adults to harden up and handle the freezing gale but if you've got young kids I think it's completely understandable to stay away. Looking round the crowd there did seem to be far less kids than usual yesterday.

I also think the fact that the weather has been great recently didn't help - made it seem worse than if people had a week of that before hand.
Plus we've got 3 more home games this month, and its December so people are spending more money elsewhere. WSW aren't a glamour club and people might have just thought they'd rather go to the Sydney and/or CCM games.
If the crowds stay like this it'll be a worry but I don't think it's time for the panic button just yet

Not sure why people aim there rants on here about attendance figures, its mostly us that turn up in all sorts of weather. As soon as you saw what the weather was like yesterday there was no way anyone should have expected a much bigger crowd. It hasnt happened in our past and wasnt likely to happen yesterday either.

Apart from the crowd, the other concern is that a day after the game we are still on page 9 of the thread. Shows a worrying non interest in the team at the moment.

Dear Mr T

My client has advised me to inform you that with regard to your non-attendance at yesterday's quality ASBP match at the Westpac Stadium AND your statement above:

1. It was not freezing (where freezing is 0 degrees centigrade)

2. You should have given a shit about the two teams playing (Dairy Province A vs Dairy Province B)

Furthermore it has come to our attention that your avatar contains no reference at all to any character from Planet of The Apes.

As a result of these flagrant breaches of something as per the "Angry of Mayfair Act" ca 1980s, my client has sought damages  and compensation and has lodged a claim against you in the really, really small claims tribunal.  He also wants your current avatar.

In the meantime you should cease and desist from whatever it is that you did to offend my client.  Failure to do so will result in another sternly worded letter and time out on the naughty step.

Think you may find that has as much to do with the issues over the new site as lack of interest.I dont spend anywhere near the amount of time i used to,as i just cant be bothered with putting up with some of the issues i get when trying to read or post.

Yeah i admit I had a lot less interest in this game in terms of social media as I usually would. The forums have been pretty quiet - but I think it is getting to that time of year where everyone is busy

As for the game itself against WSW, why on earth pump so many high balls about when the strong wind was telling you to play it to feet?

Surely the strong wind is exactly why you pump so many high balls about? It makes things unpredictable, and yes the nix players are going to struggle to get on the end of the long ball in the wind a little bit, but it's going to mess with the away team a lot more. I hear what you're saying but ultimately it was pumping in a long ball in the wind that got us the three points, so I have no complaints. It doesn't make for the most entertaining football at times but if that's the way we make our home advantage count then that's fine with me.

It wasn't the first time we've got a freakishly wind-assisted goal (Greenacre against the Fury in '09, Leo against the Heart in '10 come to mind), and it won't be the last.

I'm not saying lets go back to the bad old days of long ball every time, but a punt up into the wind doesn't hurt every now and then on days like yesterday.

I fear for the future of the club in Wellington. This all has me worried as I am there day in day out to see them play, yet even the Fever zone, somewhere where we look to gauge a crowd and to give our team a leg up, seems to be dwindling.

Steiny Heinekens was superb, Manny in their face and Leo did plenty tonight

Its certainly a concern, with the small crowds. We cant rely on 'good weather' crowds only, cos we never have any.

I really enjoyed the game, although it would have been better with the few more goals that we should have had.

Though Ifill, Smith, Brockie in particular moved the ball around very well.

Steiny is best when he gets the ball in front of him, not back to goal. Maybe he should play wider/deeper.

One suggestions could be to play some of your home games in December in Auckland/CHCH/Dunedin (covered stadium) to take advantage of the novelty value bringing in crowds and avoid the worst of the Welly winds. Fewer games in Wellington may make it more palatable for the part-time good weather supporters.

It's not any more windy in December than it is during the rest of the year. It just happens to have been very windy for the past few home games. Moving games away from Wellington because of the wind would be the silliest reasoning ever.

Dunedin is only good when the students are there, so that's pre-season or end of the season.

This is the first time I've started to worry about crowds this season. Up until now we have had our 2nd highest average crowd figure to start the season, but we have had bigger crowds in much worse conditions than yesterday.

If you live in Wellington and get put off doing something because of wind, you might need to start re-thinking your life choices.
