I wonder how Ricki can get the "attacking" best out of an 'aging' Ifill ?
despite the crap deal we seem to have signed with the Met Service this season, a good win this wknd might lead to a good turn out for the other 2 pre-xmas matches
CMON U NIX!!!
Tigers I think thats really the best question I have seen asked and I think we will find out what kind of coach Ricki is. He has a talent in Ifill that has given us a shop window of what he can do. While he is aging and not at the same level we have seen (people can debate if thats fitness/injury/form) how does he get the best out of him to help the Phoenix? I can tell you I haven't a clue what the best scenario is.
I would also not underestimate that the rest of the league have seen him enough now to be guarded against the cut back so thus eliminating his main trick on the ball. For the Phoenix to be successful, how do we get the best out of Ifill? Is that really the position we are in?
I thought this in his first season for us. But still no one can combat it. There's a reason for that - he cuts back and can shoot, or he can cut again and take it outside them to shoot or cross - and he does both equally as often so the defender really has no chance, he has to guess. Ifill even sometimes will cut back, then change direction to go wide, then cut back in again, just to royally bamboozle them. He's not quick, it's just his perfect timing which allows him to do it, he changes direction at the exact moment the defender has his feet off the ground so is delayed a millisecond.
It's very clever and hardly anyone can do it. It also looks predictable on telly, but still no one can deal with it. Defenders can prepare and watch all the tape they want, but they still won't know which way he's gonna go. And they can't hang back off him for a metre because then he'll pick a beauty of a pass and get himself an assist instead.
Although obviously at different levels, it reminds me a lot of the way Luis Suarez turns the defender. But without the c*nt factor.
