Err ok.

I turned up for the Phoenix didn't I?

Why you expect 1000s of people in wellington to turn up on a pretty crap windy day to watch Waikato play manawatu is beyond me.

I never said 1000s, i expected more than a couple of dozen though. It was the same for the Team Wellington match, NZF and Welnix will probably look at all this now and say 'nah no more curtain raisers'.

How about showing up for the next Team Wellington curtain raiser? It'll probably be the last ...

I did and so did quite a few others. 500 in fact.

1040 = 24? I really should have paid attention in math class.

Yeah,AJ13 was saying that only 2 dozen turned up yesterday, and it was the same for the TW game. I remember more than a couple dozen being at the TW game.!

The weather was pretty glum though, there was a massive storm in the early morning, and the day always looked marginal.

Certainly not the type of weather suitable for the target audience for the Sunday afternoon games. And to be fair, the Nix has had rotten luck with the weather for all home games this season.

If we manage to score a beautiful day for a game, I think the crowd figure would jump to 9-10k, which is a very respectable crowd size. Del Piero factor may draw a few extra people as well next week.

19 degrees with Showers for December 9th.

I think four home games in December is a hard sell to the casuals as well. It is a busy and expensive month, especially for families, and I suspect (hope) that a lot of people were just keeping their powder dry yesterday. WSW are certainly the least appealing of the four opponents we have at home this month.

5,000 still pretty pathetic though.

Bit far out for it to be that accurate. Early last week they forecast weather we have today for yesterday.

Btw, I think the idea of curtain raisers is brilliant but I won't be attending many. I just can't afford to spend 4-5 hours down at the stadium.

I did catch some of Manawatu v Waikato while doing some things at home though (as for TW v Canty) and it was great. Even for people watching at home I think it still serves a purpose as promotion of both the Phoenix game coming up, and the ASB Prem itself.

I was thinking yesterday that I hope we get to a point where there is a curtain raiser before every Nix home game, and allowing all the ASB Prem sides to get some coverage. It doesn't solely have to be justified as something to get numbers through the gate.

With regards to curtain raisers. What's better, having more fans at the game or having a game with live TV coverage? It's unlikely you can get both.

Sky is only showing games because they have the cameras set up for the Nix game. And most people won't head to a game 2 hrs earlier to see a curtian raiser.

I didnt go to yesterdays game because of weather, and the last one I was unsure about if it was even on as there was talk of cancelation. Im keen for the next one - is it next week?

Typical, beautiful day today.  Could have used this yesterday.  Shitty weather is hurting us.   But again I'm not seeing a huge increase in promotion.

I thought we all went for the football. Maybe its just me? But if theres a free game on before the Phoenix game, its a no brainer for me. I'll go and watch it which I have for both curtain raisers so far. Five goals in the Manawatu v Waikato game and a few of those were crackers.

5.5K for a home game is not great - even if the weather wasn't great.

What is the right answer? (I don' think they have worked it out yet....I see they are doing the fan trail again next week for the Sydney Game)

Also, PAX update for next weekends game (We have a Swedish temp employee who is in Welly for a few weeks, who was dead keen to see Del Boy play while in the country. So he has already purchased tickets for next weeks game. Showed me the tickets.

PAX: 6499

So heads up folks and hope the weather turns out nice like today (typical) or lets all think there is a Lord of the rings movie premier on Sunday as Wellington always seems to turn on a scorcher for these days?????

"While caretaker coach Steve Corica was officially in charge, Farina made his presence felt, having the final say on selection and addressing the players before and during the match ahead of taking the reins this week.

Among his first priorities will be deciding how to manage Italian superstar Del Piero, who had to be substituted in the 70th minute after tweaking his troublesome right hamstring.

The 38-year-old will be sent for scans on Tuesday, and Farina faces the prospect of being without his best player for his first game as head coach away to Wellington next Sunday.

"I think it's more tight, cramping sort of, in the hamstring so we'll have to wait and see from Tuesday onwards, see how the MRI looks and go from there," Corica said."

Yet another excuse for fickle Wellingtonians not to turn up

Lets be realistic,  in the recent History of the Nix, last three or so years, how many good summers days have we had?. Only one sticks in my mid that was a true scorcher, being the playoff game against Perth! Watching football in crap weather in Wellington is something we should all be used to?

Kids who would rather see Santa than the Nix probably don't go to Phoenix games anyway :)

A much cheaper outing for parents to take their kids too though. Don't expect too many families.

Oh crumbs... Nix or Santa?

"Yet another excuse for fickle Wellingtonians not to turn up" - Kiwi Jambo

Hmm, we beat Sydney 2-0 with Del Piero. So if he doesn't play then "We want 7, we want 7 we want 7"......becomes quite possible

Goals galore, now that will get bums on seats!

At kick off, i counted 23 people yesterday. There were marginally more by halftime, but not many. Perhaps there were 500 at full time? I didnt count. Either way you werent one of them.

Pretty sure the last time he played against us he was a striker.

Well done for going. Not for me watching two teams at the bottom of the league neither of which I have any connection with. I am afraid that around 5 hours at the stadium with she who must be obeyed and two kids is a bridge to far for me!

As I said, I don't really see why you would expect more than that to turn up in crap weather to watch manawatu play waikato in wellington.
There WERE more at the Team Wellington game (which I was at), based on your estimates for the game yesterday. Nothing strikes me as odd about any of that, and I expected nothing more...As I'm sure WelNix etc did also.
They're not going to stop doing it just because barely anyone turned up to watch 2 teams they don't care about play in bad weather. get a grip on reality.
