Sure, his voice is kind of annoying but calling him an idiot is going a bit far. He's a good supporter of football in NZ, so don't be a dick.

Agree that he is going to add an awful lot to the team both on and off the park. Young guys like Costa will be able to learn a lot off Ifiill and Greenacre as well.

With his experience I wonder if there will be a temptation to make him captain or will it still be Durante?

Can't see Durante being pushed away from Captain now.. Especially with Paul coming into the frame so late on.

Giving them Captaincy could help down the track for re-signing though

We have a captain?... Sometimes last season I did kinda wonder...

yeh leave the radio guy alone...good interview, great coverage. Hopefully we see some results for the Nix!

It's difficult to know what our style of play is going to be like though...

Did he arrive today?

I'm not living in NZ at the moment so I don't get to see much of the NZ media.

Have the new signings had proper unvielings yet?
I assume Ifill has arrived. I mean when they have them at the stadium and they are handed the new shirt witht their name on and all the media is there and the player says how pleased they are to be at the club and how they hope to help the club win the league...etc....etc

These things are  great and help with publicity and to give the new season a bit of a buzz...Did  Greenacre get a proper welcome.?

Pretty low key for all our signings, although Ifill took up the cover of the friday sports in the Dom Post

They did it in previous years.....I remember seeing photos of the likes of Ross Aloisi and other new signings holding up their jersey in the ROF.

I went to the Elrich unveiling, and managed to get a question in amongst all of Piney's at the Press Conference.

Lots of photos of him standing on the pitch in an (XXL) Phoenix shirt.

Do we want to give Ifill the superstar treatment? His profile could put bums on seats but would it encourage him to perform well for the club with the extra treatment or does he perform well with less attention?

Don't want to place unnecessary pressure on the fellow. He was interested in Wellington, NZ for being lay back and being less recognised. Already there is enough pressure on Greenache to fill in Smeltz shoes.

I rather have those boys to grow into their role rather making things too star grazing and making them sit on a high pedestal. They should feel that they got what they deserve and by merit. They already have some recognition, now it's time for them to prove and earn their keep and not get their heads in the clouds just because we are a small country.AllWhitebelievr2009-07-29 23:49:51

Agreed but, we do want to build this team up. And get a lot of recognition and fan support.

I guess what you are saying is what happened to Aloisi at Syd. So much pressure on him. We need the right mix, but I do think that a shirt unveiling wouldn't do too much harm

He looks the goods. Knew he would be number 8. And its cool they did have this publicity because its what the club needs at the moment.

If needed, I'm sure Ifill will employ a painter/decorator to do that.

nah!  this guy is a 29 year old pro with hundreds of games under is belt at a good level, played in FA cup final etc etc.....a photo in the Dompost is not going to go to his head.

Its the reality of pro football....we need to crank up the promo's. Its all about bums on seats. If we make a noise about Ifill there will be stacks of casual sports fans who will think..."might go along to the next game and see this new striker"

And somewhat cynically I might add, if the Dom Post show more photos of his missus, then it might attract a few more lads to the game as well.

And if the nix keep winning then in true YF fashion the catch cry could be "Shirt's off for the lasses!" (cf Sid the Sexist)

Funny how we often end up getting rugby inserted in a football story. Thats life in NZ sport I guess. Ifill must be in a minority in the UK following rugby.

TV stats show the TV audience for the UK for the European Rugby Cup final(Heiniken Cup) which featured an English club  was 410,000 compared to 11.6 million viewers for the European football final(champ league)

It was actually something about how he would cope moving from a massive, vibrant city like London to a piss-pot backwater like Wellington.

Probably why Piney wouldn't let me ask anymore questions

I think I read that he was looking at a future in Rugby or Sprinting in his younger youth days before showing his potential at soccer. . . It's good to have other interests if it makes him a better sportsmans.

Nothing wrong with rugby (or league or whatever) - it's just that football is better!  I'm sure Ifill would agree (like most Englishmen!)

Hope he appreciates that the Stadium pitch will not be a biliard table after NPC  and Super 14 comps.  Has anyone seen how he is going in training yet?

Thinking about it, was happy to see the photo of Ifill with the strip etc. This is something I mentioned on another thread - i.e. how our signing seem to arrive with little fanfare and no token photo in the paper with a scarf / strip like back home.

Wrong thread and not going to affect people on here, but the Dompost pic highlights how the player's names will be impossible to see when they are on the pitch
