OK, but by the same logic Ronald McDonald is also interested in taking over the Phoenix.

You heard it here first.
Maybe he could sort out the burgers at ROF

Not sure i'm keen on the new strip....

No, by the same logic, more creedence is given to a rumour that the owner of MacDonalds is talking to NZF about the Nix than any rumour that the owner of Burger King is talking to them as he has no known relationship to NZF. But very amusing analogy.

hmmm, the thing that bothers me is that Van hattum denied ever having contact with the man, but these connections question the truth in his statement.

First FIFA, now NZF?

New Zealands final 21 player squad for the FIFA Women's World Cup Germany 2011 will be named on Tuesday 7 June.

At a press conference beginning at 3pm at Giltrap Prestige in Auckland, NZF Chairman Frank van Hattum will read the names of 21 players who will represent New Zealand in our third appearance at a FIFA Womens World Cup, and our second in succession

didnt the all whites have a big luncheon at the same place before they left for the WC? probably nothing in it.

Giltrap Prestige are VW Dealers - be something to with sponsors I'd say.

Okay, I'm back from a weekend away, what did I miss?

... HOLY sh*t!

Right, now I'm worried. I wouldn't believe Dave Burgess if he told me the sky was blue, but Michael Brown is a generally reliable source rather than a gossip monger.

From what I have been hearing in Wellington business circles for the last few months.....Michael Brown is right on target with this article.
I really feel for Terry. There was not much wrong with his original business plan. He just got hit with the global financial crisis and then what really was the nail in the coffin was the Government taking the knife to the public service. 2000 public servants have lost their jobs= lots of empty office space= less rent for Terry= poor cash flow= no money for the Nix. There is currently around 17% vacant office space in the city and its expected to head up to around 25%+.

People say the govenment should not be involved in private sport but the govt has found $100's of million for the RWC and $35 million for the Americas cup team and wrote out a cheque for $4 million to resurface AMI stadium coz the private owner neglected to insure the surface. The government is also offering tax free status to the NZRU and the RWC company for RWC business. The WCC is happy to say how great the nix has been for the financial viability of the stadium through match fees..

I'm not advocating a tax payer/ratepayer bailout because thats not how it should work but you do have to concede there are huge double standards in this country. There are several provincial RU's in NZ( Southland RU especially) who have been bankrolled into the millions by their local rate payers.

The herald story isn't really news - we knew 2 months ago that there wasn't money to pay the bills at the Phoenix because the CEO said so.  Terry was entirely reliant on WGA funding coming through, it hasn't.  Why would the situation be any different 2 months down the track?

Doloras, I assume your apology to Nippert and Burgess is in the mail...or are you planning to abue Michael Brown and call him a liar too because he said mean things about Terry?

Because an immigration lawyer would be of use here?

Let's just wait and see before any hasty letters of apology are written which we would all regret later on.

In the meantime.

I must say that, since I became self-employed, I have much more sympathy with the contractors who weren't paid for their work on time.

I've heard so much positive stuff about this guy, just wish I knew a bit more about him.

This will be my last post on WGA funding. If people don't accept it will never appear by now, they will never accept it.

We should also write off the purported sponsorship deal with the nix- this will never happen. Ali Syed & WGA are frauds.

so you've provided some information on the $100 mill not coming, all good, I don't think many of use were banking on it, but this sponsorship deal you've given nothing to show it's not coming nor that you actually know who it is supposedly from....stick to what we all have access to, not guesswork.

[QUOTE=Ahsan Ali Syed]

"I think Terry Serepisos is an excellent businessman. I like his ambition ... and I like the way he operates."

The Indian-born Mr Ali said his interest in the Phoenix was because he wanted to "help Terry Serepisos".

"If I could do that by merely sponsoring the Phoenix to make it a little bit more liquid than it is today, then I would go for that option. If that cannot be achieved ... then I will look into ownership ... I am confident that I can do a deal with Terry."

He confirmed that a 50-50 ownership contract was under negotiation.

Now if only one of these mystery NZ businessmen were willing to negotiate a real 50-50 deal with Terry, we might not be in this mess.

i like this idea, he'd only have to win it once a season and his losses are covered. Or he could win Powerball. Easy as.mikecj2011-06-08 14:39:43

Does anyone else see a giant hole in that cv?

goes from retail, to bank admin, to sports gear sales, to 'overseeing british rugby league sales', to gettiing a personal call from Terry to come and be his manager of commercial operations... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Is there enough money in the bank to pay him?

Terry: 'Nathan, do this for the Nix for ''nix" at the moment, and I'll give you a really big raise when my good friend Ali's loan comes through.'
