A good chunk of cyclists don't wear lycra. I used to cycle to work, now I mainly cycle around the mountain bike tracks and use the road only to get from point a too point b as I don't have a tow bar on my car to mount a bike rack / I'm to cheap to buy a bike rack.

The point isn't the lycra mob though, it's to protect those people who would like to cycle but are afraid to cycle on the roads with our insane and homicidal drivers.

So those children and elderly people that nimbys are complaining about being inconvenienced by having to look before opening their doors are the sort of people who will benefit greatly from having this cycle lane.

This is what we are reduced to when we hear absolutely zilch about the license situation for weeks....

I wonder what the delay is? Are the FFA busy thinking of more ways to fudge us over before any deal is signed?

Well, if Kosta's the marquee for next year then we must have a future.

If.

My guess is either an EPL team is coming down again or ownership consolidation. Gareth hasn't got much interest in it now.

I have been informed that the announcement is going to be:

So I'm guessing that you're confident it's not about the licence because you know something the rest of us don't about that situation... ???

Anyway, the fact that the stupid fudgeing bullshark license issue hasn't been sorted and the clock is ticking on this season and we are playing like shark on a stick all makes it pretty hard to get excited about a "major announcement" from the club which is about anything other than the licence. And I know there's rumours that it's sorted and Fairfax articles saying job done, and people close to the club or FFA have implied it's pretty much a done deal, but none of that matters for shark until the ink is dry on the paperwork as far as I'm concerned. This has gone on far too long.

It's a press release, not a press conference. pretty sure the licence would be the latter.

I can't think of anything worth announcing without the license sorted. If its a premier league team, well surely they wouldn't book a premier league team for the off season without a license? If its an ownership change, well they have changed owners within WelNix already without a "Major Announcement"

Although it might not be a major announcement, the club hasn't said that there is a major announcement, only Simon Hampton has - and he may have misunderstood his source.

Whatever it is if its not a player or a license it's going to be disapointing.

For a Major Announcement the club would invite the press in advance.

For a licence Major Announcement their would be a bigger police presents on the street in case RBB assassinate  Mr Gollop while in NZ So they can blame us,  And for this reason the FFA WOULD NOT RELEASE the details early to stuff our metrics.

For a cold or flu infection they would say nothing.

unless WelNix and the FFA are issuing licence news by press release rather than press conference so they don't have to answer awkward questions about why it's taken so long and the details of the deal

What if the announcement is that every other team exceeded the salary cap and with their points deductions for punishment we are now in first?

That would be an exciting announcent.

Then there would need to be two anoucnements, the first one would be that the FFA admit that they are incompetent and that the Phoenix press department is now in charge of all FFA press releases.

So let me get this straight. The important announcement was that therewas no announcement. Just typical.

The Phoenix didn't announce that there would be an announcement, Simon Hampton said that a source told him that there would be a major anouncement.

He appears to have deleted the tweet now.

Ah, NZF, where the Auckland Anniversary blends seamlesly into Waitangi long weekend.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

So the real big announcement is yet another cluster fudge from New Zealand football yet again involving a player's ability to play for his team. Some more heads really need to roll on this. "He was out of Internet coverage range". what sort of a sharkhouse excuse is that? Then I hear that the Nix, NZF, the FFA (Who will be really helpful - yeah right, another metric) & Fifa are to work together on this.

Fifa - How big is the brown envelope?

FFA - How long can we dick the Phoenix around and get away with it?

NZF - Surely someone here in the office has a friggen envelope haven't they?

Phoenix - Just another day of the Nix dealing with complete incompetance within New Zealand football!

The big concern is this is another ROAD BLOCK, Rob has to clear to invest large sums of his(and other Welnix owners) money into a football club . With all those around who are benefactors only ever putting the Road Blocks back.

Dome: Phoenix 'pleased' with licence progress

Wellington Phoenix continue to negotiate with Football Federation Australia for an extended licence but general manager David Dome says the club is happy with how discussions are progressing.

Dome and his team have been pushing for an extended 10-year licence in the past months, and believe that negotiations are not far away from a resolution.

“Yeah, we are, I know it’s seemed like a bit of a glacial progress state,” Dome toldthe Daily Football Show.

“But we’re continuing negotiations with the FFA.

“They’re going well, the negotiations are going on in good faith.”

Despite ongoing discussions, Dome was happy with where both club and governing body were at in terms of agreement.

“You have to say that we’re pleased with where we’re at, we’re not a million miles away that’s for sure,” he said.

“We’re certainly a lot closer than we were than a couple of weeks ago.

“I don’t think it’s that much further and hopefully we’ll have some sort of resolution.”

Dome acknowledged though that there was still matters to be finalised and that it’s not over till it’s over.

“There’s still a lot of work to do, there’s no doubt about it, and these things are never done until they’re done”

“We’re moving towards a resolution and both parties are keen to see it happen.

“I guess you could say I’m heartened by the way the negotiations are going.”

One of the key sticking points with Football Federation Australia was the average attendance of the games in New Zealand, something that Dome acknowledges the club also needs to address.

“We have to get our average attendance up… we don’t want to be down the bottom of the A-League, which we’re not at the moment.”

“But we do want to be up where the average of the A-League is, which is around 12,000 this year, and we’re at about nine (thousand).

“It’s not going to happen, or resolve itself, overnight.”

Whilst attendances will not have an immediate impact, Dome hailed the #SaveTheNix campaign for its effect on the Wellington public who threw their support behind the club.

“We’ve had 26 percent growth in membership off the back of the Save The Nix campaign," he said.

“That’s a staggering amount and the highest amount of growth in the A-League.”

Dome is also aware that it’s not just New Zealand’s football fraternity and was heartened by the outpouring of support from across the Tasman in Australian footballing circles.

“If anything, the Save The Nix has shown the Phoenix is a valued part of the A-League and is a well respected club and well liked club," he said.

“Every single club came out in support of the Phoenix when this thing blew up so we took a lot of heart in that and it was very humbling in terms of how much support we did have from Australian clubs, Australian fans and even the Australian media.”

So much this. Talk is cheap and the end of the season, and therefore the end of the club, is fast approaching.

Sure, Dome and Morrison and whoever else can say all the positive things they want in the press but until the paperwork is actually signed it's meaningless as far as I'm concerned
