Sorry but so long as he gave the Phoenix the chance to respond then that is acceptable. (Do you know this or just wild speculation to support your mate) He has a wellington city councillor on the record saying the venue change story is a goer.

So why focus on a single forum quote in it then?

Don't think I did. Other article was very poor, which is why I focused on that. Then mentioned as a side note that quoting from the forum was lazy.

Ok put it this way.  Do you think the state of the current public view of the Phoenix organisation has more to do with the fact that the dompost occasionally, lazily, use form posts for opinions - or that the Phoenix are now refusing to take calls from or make any comment to the local paper?

All I'm getting at, aren't there bigger fish to fry??

So because one person (the nix) are doing a rubbish job, I can't cricitise others for doing a rubbish job too?

I'm with JD on this, blaming the Dom is just shooting the messenger. Morrison is a city councillor (who according to himself, had a pretty decent part in bringing WelNix together) and he said the story had legs. That's good enough for me. If the Nix aren't talking to the Dom it's their own fault, if you're not going to talk to them then don't whinge when they don't include a comment.

Again I would point out the articles about the Firebirds this time last year or the Lions in 2011. They don't just pick on the Phoenix.

Additionally, having just read Plumbs piece from today I am even more pissed off. Gareth has now been given a number of opportunities to apologise for his choice of words. Not his message but his choice of words. He hasn't. I'm sure the other owners would have had the opportunity to speak to him about it since that interview aired yet still no apology. What does this say about their attitude towards Morgans outburst? They support it? Or simply that he won't listen to the rest of the group. It's piss poor whatever it reflects.

The talk about everything being done by committee is interesting as well. Surely you hire good professional staff so that you don't need to do everything by committee? I'm not sure everything that method is the best option though it probably ensures greater input from the owners and thus protects their investment.

actually bopman I thnk your bang on the money - the dom post pick on all our sports teams, which is an odd penomina. I'd have thought like the newcastle paper they'd try their best to actually promote the team. You can see the dom post headlines re the 1-1 result - nix hang on - just. But in Newcastle it'll be more like Jets fly away with a stolen point.

Big part of that is the Nix not having a dedicated media manager who'd set up close relationships at key media outlets.

Permalink Permalink

yep, but who's fault is that - the welnix crowd. Excluding certain the existing player base they inherited all the crap we've been fed stems from the way they set their version of the club up. No media manager, a slient GM, a shit stirrer as part of the consortium.

So much this. Can you imagine it? All it would take is a quick call between the man from the Post and a media person atvthe Phoenix whom can talk to each other, control the message and speak freely without getting dropped in the shit in the press and it would have been a non event.

Man you are prepared to take some liberties when it suits you JD!

The Nix are NOT refusing to take calls from or make any comment to the local paper. They had a Friday morning presser for chrissakes.

By his own admission Boyer got wind of this Newtown Park thing on Friday afternoon and couldn't get comment from the Nix then (although it's not even clear that he tried, rather than just assume). That is not an excuse for the DP to run a completely half-arsed, non-fact checked story on the front page the next morning! It's no wonder people are always on their backs when they pull shit like that.

And if you don't understand that the DP and Stuff play a major role in how the general public view the Phoenix organisation then you really are being quite pathetic and unsophisticated ;-)

Of course I understand why this is important!  Do the Phoenix? Has the club even denied the story in any way other than texting Hard News?

Yes, Henry Tait openly said it was complete bollocks to anyone who simply asked him.

It was, I thought it gave a good insight into the man. Unlike JD I didn't come away thinking I like him less, but rather that I understand where he is coming from a bit better. I currently feel the same way about Gareth I did about Terry. I'm not sure if I ever met him I would actually like him, but I'm glad he's involved. He's putting a lot of his own time and money into this and I think that buys him the right to say the odd stupid thing. A bit of backlash from the fans is fair enough (and in his own way he may even take heed) but I still think overall we're in good hands.

"good hands" - not so sure, if Gareth is the shit stirrer I'd hoipe the other 8 members have realised they may need to keep him in check. I'm happy ewnough to have them owneiung the nix and keepiong the team in Wellington - as long as this happens! Respect for GM has gone, he's clearly a stright shooter and specks his mond but he appears to have taken the wrong stance against the fans for my liking.

thing is a lot of people in the cities love their cats and really don't give two flying farks for native birds.

this is the gap. The cat is more than a pet it's a part of the family, and the native birds are a nicety to them but a bit abstract. Making it one or the other- sure it's good for the country, but they know which one will impact on their daily life.

I think that's the reality. But ideas have to get out there- there's been a backlash but people are thinking about the idea, as opposed to having never considered it. Much like a few years back as we were buying back AirNZ and KiwiRail selling off assets seemed like the height of stupidity and electoral poison!!

Surely we should try and offer kosmina some sort of contract, whether it' as ttechnical advisor or whatever. What's the harm in at least opening talks? See if anything comes out of it

Permalink Permalink

There wouldnt be enough room in the shed for both Kosmina and Ricki at the same time. It'd be one or the other and I dont see the Wellnix bringing him in at this stage of the season.

Only good thing I could see if they talked to him is that they would get an idea of how much they would have to pay to get someone like him on board if they decide to

So you would like him to take his money and bugger off?  Bit like those dickheads who chanted "F**k off Morgan" at the match....whats the plan for the Nix if Gareth takes his money and leaves? If I was Morgan I would be very close to pulling the plug...not a football fan, abused by some fans......at what point does he say " I can do without all this".

I'm sure the other 8 would pick up the slack.

Just because he owns the team, and puts some money into it, doesnt mean we have to agree with and love everything he says and does.
