willing to bet the media here completely ignore what Dome said in response and instead copy that SMH article word for word coupled with some sort of click bait headline of impending doom.
Edit:
Stuff - "Phoenix future in doubt"
Herald - "rumoured Phoenix exit a beat up"
Herald also always have 3x as many football stories as stuff do, and actually have football writers.
Media will be all over Domey's update.
It's not like them to let the narrative override the facts.

Yeah its shark, espeacially because Stuff is the local Wellington website and the Herald is obviously the Auckland one.
Auckland - 5th biggest untapped market in trans tasman market

No its the biggest untapped market, its the 5th biggest market overall, the Wellington urban area is the 7th or 8th biggest market overall. If they aren't looking into NZ then they have a very limited ability to expand.
Great article/video from Gourdie!
pull out now and just get it over and done with! ;>)

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

And, because they're idiots.
And because they're Australians.

Hah, just got the email from the club and had to come check this thread to watch the brown trousers and the doom mongering. :D
But more seriously - FFA are obviously bullsharkting here, this Fairfax journo was given this leak by them deliberately to try to scare Welnix. What a bunch of tossers.
So what did the australian journalist say to Jason Pines?
Edit:

5 odd minutes in.
I can't believe that after 9 years there are still people on the Aus 442 forums spouting the exact same innacurate clap trap. Five minutes reminded me why I gave up on it.
No wonder the FFA are useless, they probably look at what these morons write and think it is accurate and a snapshot of fan opinion.
So I had a listen to the guy, he said that there are people in the FFA that want the Phoenix gone, that the Mayor and Cronulla sharks want a football team there. At the end he admitted that he actually thinks that the Phoenix will be given the extension.
So a beat up.
him admitting he thinks the Phoenix will be given a licence extension literally caused me to facepalm.
Having listened to both Domey's interview and also Bossi's interview with Piney I'm left with the abiding feeling that Bossi is either pushing a personal prejudice or is regurgitating the same old shark that has been propagated by some vocal minorities within Aussie football circles.
In my opinion he did an absolutely sharkhouse job of rebuffing Piney's questions with the exception of developing Aussie youth players which Piney largely gave him anyway. Outside of that there wasn't a single valid justification for why the Nix would be cut as opposed to simply expanding the comp to include a new team. All in all it smells of muckraking to sell copy and I would have hoped for better from Bossi.
For the full context of what is going on I recommend a new book I picked up at Sydney airport on Sunday last. It's the 'A League - The Inside Story of the Tumultuous First Decade' by John Stensholt & Shaun Mooney. The book is thoroughly researched and a very good read. The old NSL clubs want a bite of the new cherry, but the FFA and the A League don't want to risk a Gold Coast United or Queensland Fury. Ideally they want a 12-14 team league that doesn't lose money for club owners year upon year. I would suggest that Welnix and the FFA are on the same page but haven't yet agreed on how the story ends - with a 5 year or 10 year licence.
it has to end with a 10 year licence. A five year licence is just them hoping to have another option so they can cut the Phoenix despite it being a stupid and ill-informed decision. Of course we see those every day from the FFA so no one would be shocked.
10 years gives the Pheonix a chance to become further entrenched as it should be.

If they give us 5 years then we are dead anyway.

Five years is pointless and Welnix would be totally justified in walking.
Here's hoping it's all shark and we get a fifteen year extension. Plus GST.

Have you listened to David Dome's interview on RadioSport?
It definitely won't be 15 years - FIFA have a limit on licence's for teams playing in another confederation (8 or 10 years maximum), so it won't exceed that - even if the FFA and the Nix agreed they wanted to go to 15 or more years FIFA would not allow it.
Why have the owners been so silent on the TV deal. They (Welnix) have not mentioned SKY once. Only that there working on a TV deal no names mentioned.

So what is the club saying?
From the In The Nix via email:
| PHOENIX LICENSE EXTENSION You may have seen some speculation in the Australian media recently regarding the extension of our A-League licence. FFA have been consistent in their discussions with us that they see the Phoenix as one of the 10 A-League Clubs in season 2015/16, and there has been nothing to change their stance on this. The Phoenix’ governance model and suite of Corporate partners is extremely sound and the FFA regard the stability of the Phoenix as crucial in the ongoing development of the A-League.The discussions with FFA are ongoing around the terms of our licence extension. Chairman Rob Morrison is working with the FFA and their Board on this and there is a desire from both parties that this issue is resolved quickly. |

Surely they mean season 2016/17? Of course they are one of the clubs in the current season.
Hmm...

hopefully otherwise its a nothing statement or a pre season out of date
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
Sky will still be here in 6 years
Sky will still be here in 6 years
They might not want to up their bid for the rights though, if they can't afford to get the black caps tour then surely they wont' want to spend more on the A-League?
Hopefully the rumour of a spark sports / tvnz tie up is true.
