If someone were to shoot Totori though...
Good excuse to sneak a flare into the stadium....

You should never need an excuse to sneak a flare in any stadium.

I thought the Marquee player didn't count towards your import quota?

Doesn't count towards the salary cap.

technically we would need a free import spot, but im sure that wouldnt stop other clubs if it benefited the FFA

Corrupt buggers at FFA. West Sydney got 6 imports!

Permalink Permalink

That's what happens when the FFA's your owner.

Well how bout a 10 game guest stint. Doesn't count towards the Import quota, offload someone in the off season and offer Owen a full deal if all goes well? Grasping at straws here but we need a boost at the club.

10 game guest deal works, unless you are talking about the willingness of WelNix to fund it it.

Then you run into a major hindrance.

Hogg signing is a double edged sword. Great he's in and hopefully pushing for a starting spot...

but - is this another Moss/Pasty situation? your 2 best players in a position for your country in the same club squad

We still have Tommy Smith

Yeah I kinda view Tommy Smith as our LB and Ricki then tries to shoehorn Lochhead in as some kind of 'wing-back' which he is not.

Tommy is more a CB who can fill in at LB - primarily cause he is still young.

Can't imagine he will be able to perform there in years to come.

A job probably more suited to Hogg anyway......

- left wing-back I mean.

Same formation for AW/WPX 'cept Nix swap Box for Smithy (and Dura for Nelly until he retires) 3 CB, two WB... and away we go!

No to 3 at the back. Was a train wreck the last few times we have tried. Love Dura, but doubt he could organise a back 3 to the same effect Nelsen does.

Or fire a yellow flare at him.......

I see young Thomas from Waikato FC has just requested a transfer to TW. Liked the look of him for the Olympic team. Still a bit raw but went down the line with good pace and combined well on attack. Would have to a be a cert when the Nix Academy expands. The RB situation at the Nix has always been problematic. With Downey going (surely) and Bertos at the tail end of his career then there is a potential opening there for Thomas. Not as first choice but if he develops OK, as a backup.

he also needs to figure out his position because Ive always thought he was decent in midfield

Permalink Permalink

I think he is best suited as a Centre Back. That's his problem I think (and its being discussed in the Waikato forum as we speak) He needs to find a position and stick with it.

I thought he was a semi-decent RB and worth a youth spot

Has anyone heard of a player called Shane-Lee Jenkins? Apparently been offered spot in the school of excellence next year.

Looks like he is a Hamilton lad via Zimbabwe.

He can't be that good or Declan would have signed him 'arf!

I was impressed by Thomas at the Olympics. Was he one of the Waikato boys that turned down the FSE originally though?

If he was, you can bet Declan did it for him.

I heard he was one of them (along with Andy Bevin) but unsure how reliable that info was.

Fuck this stupid game

Would have jeopardised Bevins college eligibility so... That's not to say he was not offered it though.

From what he said in the NSWPL interviews, he would have quit college for a full time A-League gig. Would have been a horrible move to leave a college scholarship just for a FSE spot.

Really? He definitely needs that college education then if he is that stupid trading in that for an A League gig.

I'd have quit school to become a professional footballer.

Professional footballer yes. A League footballer?

Aspire to be better.

Do A league players not get paid to play football?

It's not like once you start in the A league you can't then aspire to move on to a better league. So am not sure I understand what you're trying to say.

Apparently with our salary cap being maxed out, the average wage at the Phoenix is 150k. Assuming Lochead is average it's a good gig if you can get it. I think he may have a college education as well!!

Auckland will rise once more

Victory have released Julius Davies. Maybe we should have a look at him. He was highly rated, but fell down the pecking order under Ange.

talking about the chance of a football scholarship to the US right? a decent pathway to becoming a pro-footballer for a Kiwi?

Permalink Permalink

Is the college system in the Us really benefitting our player stocks? How many players have gone through that pathway and where are they now. It seems to me it is just a money making scam for those who are providing the pathway and kiwi kids are buying into it as they think it is the only way they have a chance of going pro.

Off the top of my head...
Nelsen
Elliot
Lochhead
Keat
Tim Brown
O'Keefe
Boxall
Boyens

Its not a path that's going to suit everyone, but its a valid pathway to some, and for those kids not yet good enough for pro football, but hope to get there in the future and are also academically able, it is a pathway that can also give a solid foundation to life after football if they can't make it should they go to a good university.
