But looking at the above list, it's fair to say that if you were offered an A league contract, you should take it.

Victory have released Julius Davies. Maybe we should have a look at him. He was highly rated, but fell down the pecking order under Ange.

NM, seems the Roar are set to announce him.

@PerthGloryFC will loose another striker to a rival A-league club with in the next week. #aleague#Football #foxfootball

It's a player going to a club with a coach he has played under before. Sure you can work it out

Could be Smeltzy coming home? Other thing it could be is Chris Harold going to Roar, under Mulvey.

Saw that, but didn't retweet it. They don't have the greatest reputation for accuracy (worse than Tribal Football). But there was talk that Smeltz was in demand in China again, surely he wouldn't try that again you would think.

Mrs Smeltz was on Twitter the other day moaning about the heat in Perth...so you never know??? Mind you it was 44 degrees!

Considering they can't spell then I'm disregarding this one. My strange rumour-denying philosophy is fully utilised here.

Can't see Smeltz going anywhere, he's still a good player but not in the form to attract interest from overseas at the moment. Other A-League clubs might be interested but seems unlikely.

Is smeltz off contract at the end of the season? Has to be someone they're releasing if its an immediate loss to another A league club,or its and end of season move once a contract has expired.

If it was to be Smeltz he is the marquee player at Perth so you'd assume he'd be join a club as their international marquee.
The only clubs that don't have an international marquee are us and Mariners.

Given the source, I don't take it that seriously. But if Glory want a big name to replace Mehmet, they won't get it with what they were paying him. Unless they can convince the FFA that Smeltz should be allowed to be an Aussie marquee, they might have to look at moving him. Still rate it as very unlikely.

The Sun has linked them with Andrew Driver. Still think it is very unlikely they would offload Smeltz.

So do I. Just read an article though apparently he played under Kosmina at Adelaide in the NSL before going to the UK and Mansfield town. Throw Adelaide into the wild speculation mix! http://t.co/OlgBpT5X

Sounds like Adelaide United won't offer Ian Ramsey a new contract at the end of the season.
Would be a good pick up. Decent pace decent player.

"Heart of Midlothian’s Andrew Driver has emerged as a target for clubs in Australia and Japan.

According to SunSport, the 25-year old winger is attracting interest from Perth Glory and Yokohama and could be tempted by a January move.

Hearts are keen to sell Driver, who comes out of contract at the end of the season, as the crisis-stricken Edinburgh club continue to cut costs."

Gives a good look at players coming off contract from a-league clubs, with a small review

http://theroarreview.wordpress.com/2013/01/10/off-season-outlook-part-3-free-agency/

Adelaide:
Caravella: Pass. Tidy player who Mulvey knows from GCU, but not that good overall.
van Djik: Pass. Foreign spot required, not a good idea.
Ramsay:  Pass. Decent attacker, but Brisbane has a wide range of wide attackers already.
Barbiero: Maybe.
Kostopoulos: Pass. Got enough wide players.
Fyfe: Pass. Top 3 centre backs sorted long term.

Central Coast:
Ryan: Pass. Committed long term to Theo.
McBreen: Pass. Ageing, also guaranteed a deal at the Mariners.
Zwaanswijk: Pass. Foreign spot + he’s ageing.
Pellegrino: Pass. Not good enough.
Rogic: Pass. Obviously sign if possible, but it won’t be.
Bozanic: Maybe. Above average left sided midfielder. Slightly better/more expensive swap for Visconte
Hearfield: Pass. Not good enough.
Griffiths: Pass. Not good enough.
McGlinchey: Pass. Expensive, and foreign.
McDonald: Pass. Got two left fullbacks.

Caceres: Pass. Unproven.
Pasfield: Pass. Got two keepers.
Sterjovski: Pass. Ageing.
Oates: Pass. Unproven.
Kwasnik: Pass. Not good enough.

Melbourne Heart:
Bolton: Pass. Got two keepers.
Colosimo: Pass. Ageing.
Fred: Pass. Ageing, foreign.
Thompson: Pass. Good player, but cost prohibitive with so many long term deals.
Tadic: Pass. Foreign.
Germano: Pass. Foreign.
Hoffman: Maybe. Potentially cheap, versatile midfielder/attacker.
Kalmar: Pass. Not good enough.

Dugandzic: Pass. No real need for wingers.
Gray:
Pass. Foreign.
Garcia: Pass. Ageing, cost prohibitive
Grella: Pass. Ageing.

Melbourne Victory:

Velaphi: Pass: Got two keepers.
Broxham: Maybe. Potentially cheap, #6 midfielder.
Rojas: Pass. Quality player, but won’t happen.

Ferreira: Pass. Versatile, but not good enough.
Celeski: Maybe. Shown signs of improvement under Ange, but likely to stay there.
Cernak: Maybe. Cheap midfielder, from Brisbane. Quality is questionable however.
Thomas: Pass. Got two keepers.
Dilevski: Pass. Not good enough.

Newcastle:
Kennedy: Pass. Got two goalkeepers.
Calvano:  Pass. Foreign spot.
Zadkovich: Pass. Not good enough.
Ribeiro:  Pass. Foreign spot.
Gallaway: Pass. Not good enough.
Wheelhouse: Pass. Not good enough.
Virgili: Pass. Handy player, but we’ve got enough wingers.

Bridges: Pass. Ageing, and foreign.
Jesic: Pass. Not good enough.

Perth:
van den Brink: Pass. Foreign.
Pantelidis: Pass. Not good enough, also impetuous in the tackle.
Ward: Pass. Not good enough.
Heffernan: Pass. Got two left fullbacks.

Miller: Pass. Foreign.
Zahra: Pass. Got enough wide men, not good enough/
Dodd: Pass. Ageing, expensive.
McGarry: Pass. Foreign.
O’Neill: Pass. Unproven.
Berger: Pass. Not good enough.
Risdon: Pass. Got two right fullbacks.
Young: Pass. Not good enough.

Sydney:
Necevski: Pass. Got two goalkeepers.
Sherlock: Pass. Trialled before the 09/10 season in the 1st pre-season game vs. City. Not good enough then, no better now.
A. Griffiths: Pass. Slightly overrated, ageing and also got 3 centre backs now.
Reid: Pass. Not good enough.
McFlynn: Pass. Not good enough.
Chianese: Maybe. Versatile attacker. The Davies signing probably rules it out however.
McClenahan: Pass. Not good enough.
Lovrek: Pass. Not good enough, foreign.
Yau: Pass. Foreign.

Wellington:
Paston: Pass. Got two goalkeepers.
Lochhead: Pass. Good player, but got two left fullbacks + foreigner in Aus.
Bertos: Pass. Foreigner.
Totori: Pass. Foreigner.
Pavlovic: Maybe. Typical #9 type, potentially cheap backup for Berisha.
Downey: Maybe. No real need, but grew up in the Brisbane area apparently.
Pantelis: Pass. Tidy player, but ageing and has serious knee injury issues.
Sanchez: Pass. Foreign.
Smith: Pass: Foreign.

Western Sydney:
Covic:
Pass. Got two keepers.
Tyson: Pass. Got two keepers.
Beauchamp: Pass. Got two experienced central defenders.
Topor-Stanley: Pass. Got two experienced central defenders.
Caira: Maybe. Versatile young defender/midfielder with European exp.
D’Apuzzo: Pass. Got two left fullbacks.
Elrich: Pass. Got two right fullbacks.
Cole: Pass. Got both fullbacks positions sorted.
Trifiro: Pass. Not good enough.

Mooy: Maybe. Given his break out season, could be potentially out of reach cap wise.
Minnieccon: Pass. Needs to get back to form before even considering it, even with Mulvey as an ex GCU connection.
Appiah-Kubi: Pass. Unproven.
Haliti: Pass. Not good enough
Bridge: Pass. Not good enough.
Kressinger: Pass. Not good enough, foreign.:
La Rocca: Pass. Foreign.
Ono: Pass. Ageing, already have a foreign marquee.

I could see Pav playing in the a-league again with a different team. His biggest problem is mental and he is young enough to sort himself out. Does he really have the work ethic though? I thought the comment about Lochead was funnier.

The problem with Pav was his Goose of a coach!

Fuck this stupid game

Out of those players there are three that we should be looking at hard next season given our midfield issues (Thompson, Wee Mac and Mooy). Once we get rid of a foreigner we should also have a shot at Van Dijk (assuming he doesn't move in this window).

Auckland will rise once more

Sorry if this has been covered, but why sign Ian Hogg when Luke Rowe is kicking about in the FSE?  Luke has already played an A-League game.  Does Ricki not rate him?  Is Team Wellingtons bad form dragging him down?

Hogg was too old for academy intake so I don’t see the relevance?

Hey would Petar Franjic be an option for a RB back up? And I mean in terms of him as a player not likelihood of that actually happening.

(this is obviously not the same Franjic as the Roar RB Franjic.)
