Not sure if Speculation is the right place to put this, but cant be bothered starting new thread.

With Gold Coast more than likely to be gone next season, is there a way we could take advantage of their successful youth team setup, and attach our club onto it?

Their youth team really should be kept if possible as it has been immensely successful, but what if the Phoenix were able to help contributing towards this team (still based in Gold Coast) and then have them as our youth team? We would be assisting the league, and it would save a lot of kids an uncertain future.

Then we would have the ability to pull some of those talents into our squad when needed.

Only issue for me would be the distance between travel between the two locations, and the need for young kiwis to be included.

But Im sure guys like Lindsay would be okay with being based in the Gold Coast every now and again.

Just an idea, without all the logistics thought through, but surely with such a successful system already in place, we should try and either take it over completely, or pick up any staff and knowledge of the current runnings of it?

Why don't we just sack the entire Nix team then hire the whole GC team and then re-sign Ifill, Durante, Siggy, Paston and Muscat.......

Remember we had a player exodus when our future was unsure, But the core stayed.

Surprised we didn't make a move for Bowles - has already showed more at right back than Hearfield or Lia ever has. Could've been a cheap fix to our chronic right back issue.valeo2012-03-24 20:03:58

Surely some back up keepers haven't featured?

Three for me, and two for them.

So you don't want Ifill, Manny, Siggy, Dura, Lochead, Sanchez or Smith?

KEEP:

Ifill, Manny, Siggy, Dura, Sanchez, Smith + Daniel, Bertos, Ward, Paston, Lia

DROP TO SUBS BENCH (NO LONGER TO START GAMES , JUST SQUAD PLAYERS):

Lochhead, Greenacre, Brown

AX:

Pavlovich, Warner (sign young NZ keeper or bring back Liam Reddy (unhappy at being 2nd choice at Sydney)

HAVEN'T SEEN ENOUGH TO FORM AN OPINION
(BUT POSSIBLY AX):

Tsattalios, Downey, Pantelis, Lindsay, Griffiths

Should sign at least 5/6 new capable first team players and clear out enough dead wood to make way...

I reckon Pantelis deserves a shot at least! I rated him at Adelaide and reckon he could add another dimension to our attacks. A bit injury prone though

There is a reason why he is number 2 at Sydney.

del Piero is off contract with Juve at the end of this season. Lets get him as a marquee. Who wants to organise a bikini carwash to pay his wages?

We can bitch and moan about getting rid of Pav, but fact of matter he is here for next year, unless someone else wants him or he agrees to a release. It is called a contract!

As for caqlling for Pantelis to be dropeed? WTF? At least give the guy a chance to get on the pitch.

Lochhead has his limitations going forward at times, and at times he is close to our best attacking option going forward. But he does give our back four an air of solidity. He is also locked in for next year, and in the absence of something better coming out of the woodwork will continue to command a regular place.

Pantelis was flash in preseason, well the bits I saw.

We cant drop Pav, although we can split ways on mutual consent, if Ricki were to tell him that he wasnt going to get any game time next year, then maybe he would prefer to seek playing time somewhere else.

Im not sure on Ward. He is a good squad player really, versatile, but a bit erratic and inconsistent - Smith is better, but unfortunately an improt.

I have also come to the realisation that with Ricki as coach, we are never going to have an attacking midfielder, well not of the classic number 10 creative type anyway.

Sanchez has to go, simply because we arent using him right, he needs to be in behind one or two strikers to really operate. And with Ricki as coach next year, I just cant see him getting a real shot in that role.

Just got to wait till the 2013/14 season when we potentially get a new coach to come in and do a bit of a clear out and stamp in a new policy.

I think Smith should be signed and played - put your best players in their best positions (that applies across the board).

Apart from that i cant disagree with anything else here.

Yeah, course he has to go , I mean he has only taken a "unfancied" club to the Finals for the last three years, a feat not achieved by any other club / coach, despite having major constraints on funding and staffing. Of course he should be top of the list to be given the arse

But by that logic, 9 managers should be sacked at the end of the season, because they didn't win the league.

It's probably better to wait till after the finals but just remember that the players you list are probably the majority of the salary cap and include every import slot available. If you keep all those players, leaving aside any youth player excelling unexpectedly, you are not going to improve the team.

Always someone who seems to believe that "mediocrity" can be avoided by an effort of will; and that disaster is better than mediocrity.

I think this whole attitude is the "great Kiwi knocking shop" attitude. Anything from NZ sucks because it's from NZ. No achievement is good enough for anything in NZ - it must be criticised. Compare this to, say, the Melbourne Irony, who somehow come 8th and are considered "the best team in the league" by commentators and fans.

Ifill has re-signed, Manny has re-signed, Durante has re-signed.

I'm thinking maybe Sanchez, Smith or Greenacre announce something significant?

Unless we have picked someone up???

SBW tries his hand at football, signs with the Nix with options to box, play for the ABs and league.  Golf also a long-term option.

Edit: Ricki said: "We felt like we just needed an aura. Now we've got one."

I think Sanchez makes sense as they were supposed to be negotiating with him earlier in the year.

I would love if we somehow signed someone up now though. Killen quits asia... wins playoffs for nix
