Not saying we shouldn't, but if there was some decent talent available, and no Kiwis in similar spot available, why not?

I mean, we could sign Scott Basalaj couldn't we? Why no word on getting him a contract?

Who are the Phoenix seriously looking at from the local yoof, if Aussies are so terrible?

They weren't the best NYL side. Apart from Cooper if he declares for NZ use our youth spots on kiwis. Fed up with fourth rate Australian youngsters who are worsen NZ players.

Disclaimer: If Anderson needed a club we don't have any young Centre-Backs left domestically that would make a youth spot.

Gareth seems to be very pro kiwi so I think we'll see some significant steps for a better pathway for up and coming kiwis

Really happy with the Moss signing and I do think he'll become our #1 leading into 2014.

Still work to do with recruiting outfield players, but Moss is a great start to recruiting season.

Mossy = Gareth's New Kiwisaver?

Thanks Tony Warner for your hard work this season. You performed when we needed it.Cheers

Now, any word from Paston about his intentions ?

Don't now how keen Paston will be to compete with Moss again...

Thank you for what?  Sitting on the bench, getting paid for it and taking up an import slot?  He should be thanking us for his well paid holiday down under!

Has to go down as the oddest signing in the clubs history - all of the rest of the odd ones (Chen, G**, North, Cleberson, George, Tattsalios) you can at least make a (weak) case for at least.

Can anyone at all posit a theory that makes any sense of that signing??

Paston has a season more at most in him - is definitely preparing for life after football.

Maybe the word 'Liverpool' next to his name was mistaken for a sign of quality?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

He has a BSc in Computer Science. He could walk into a 50k a year starting salary job, so im sure he's not worried about moss coming in.

That's what I mean.  He does work experience every off season so he's ready for post-football.  Wouldn't be surprised so see him retire after the season

^ this, Paston is ,likely to be the number two keeper next season, Moss will be frontline keeper for the forseeable future with a backup - hopefully a kiwi junior to be hired when Paston retires.

Queenslander 3x a year.

Head on the radio this morning that Mossy is urging Paston to re-sign.  He has been offered a contract so guess we'll hear soon enough if he signs on or not.

It will be interesting what happens with Paston.  While it will be great to have them both with us I wonder what sort of Money Pasty would have been offered. It is probably not great sense from a Salary cap perspective to have two No1 keepers on the books if they are both receiving  "No 1 Keepers Salaries"

Agree. At the end of the season he's starting coaching at Island Bay for the keepers there.

Hardly a holiday JD - he played more games than Paston this season for starters!

Warner: P:15 W:6 D:2 L:7
Paston: P:12 W:6 D:2 L:4

Warner conceded 19 goals in 15 games (1.3 goals per game) and kept 3 clean sheets.
Paston conceded 13 goals in 12 games (1.1 goals per game) and kept 4 clean sheets.

I think Paston is a slightly better keeper but Warner did a more than adequate job this season IMO.

Cheers Tony.

Amusing to remember how gung ho some people were for having Vargas signed to replace the apparently inferior SigmUnd pre-season.

Do we have a list of Phoenix players and when their contracts end? Or should I make a little web app where we can keep track of them.

Seems like 1 or two people know and the rest of us are guessing.
