We will have to agree to disagree on Lochhead i think. Sure he is not brilliant, but he is bloody reliable, and would be in the four or five left backs in the A League. Left backs are not falling out of trees anywhere that I have seen, Yes if we find someone better sign them up, but dont drop him on the half chance that someone may develop into a player as good.

While I would love to have Mossy or Reddy Back, it is a difficult as both are, in reality first choice keepers in the league, so you have the added problem of players of that nature not happy playing second fiddle. It would also add stress to the salary cap. Would much rather a younger good second keeper such as those you have mentioned come in.

As I have mentioned countless time before, Reddy is a poor keeper and TL is not a good defender.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

I've said it once and I'll say it again:
Van Dijk fits our style of play better than any other striker in the league at the moment. Would sign him in a flash.
Also Cassio is would do the business.
Didn't Paston mentioned that he was thinking about retirement? Even if he stays on you can only expect one more out of him. Two at stretch.

Gol Gol Mebrahtu is being courted by Wellington Phoenix

Ricki has denied that by the way. He said he has no idea why so many rumours are coming out of australia about that and has never spoken to him.

GolGol is better than Pav imo, but yeah interesting that Ricki distanced himself from the guy so much. Wont be happening in my interpretation.

Maybe GolGol's  agent is putting it out there to spruik up some interest?

I like Smith, and think he is good enough for the A-League. But is he good enough to be an visa player in the A-League?

We are still a striker short for next season, and there are no good Aussie/NZ options available. So the Visa spots need to be used wisely.

yes, I agree too. I really really like Smith. And I would be sad to see him go. BUT if we do part ways with him, we've gotta make sure whoever comes in for Smith (esp. if a Visa player) needs to be someone who is twice as good!

^ Bummer for Brockie. Gets a $400k offer from China. Jets (naturally) won't release their best scorer prior to end of season, despite $200K transfer fee. Jets miss finals football to Sydney in last game. Then they give him a low offer to keep him. Not happy.

Haven't really seen Golgol play, but could he possibly fill in a role similar to Greenacre? A second striker who can also drop back into a midfield role when needed. Plus, I would imagine Golgol would be a tad more spritely than Greenacre...

Surely we are aspirational.

There are better players with an NZ passport than Mebrahtu.

Based on current form, I would prefer to keep Smith rather than Sanchez, he is more versatile and does the job wherever Ricki puts him on the field, unlike Dani.

If their offer is ~133,000 (as guessed at in the article) that is not low by a-league standards. He is not worth more than that.

No, but $400,000k three weeks before was what the Chinese were willing to play, plus the fee. No wonder he's miffed.

He had a contract though and probably wouldn't have even been in the Chinese teams sight if it wasn't from playing for Newcastle. IMO Newcastle had every right to do this. If the Chinese really want him they will still be interested.

I'm sure that the transfer/registration window is closed for now and not sure when it opens again in China. And since he would be classified as a foreigner (I don't think he has Oz citizenship yet) that spot may be already taken up by another player. That door could be closed, not to say there aren't others. I RTFA and still foreign spot available, might have to wait until next transfer window

Not saying Newcastle did anything wrong, they hold the players contract but considering what they would be receiving from a player less than 2 months from finishing his contract (AU$200k) and then only having him on the bench it does seem like a strange decision.Bullion2012-03-28 14:19:50

Ricki will probably travel to the Olympics this year so whats the odds of a new signing from the U.K?

I like this thinking.

Our best recruitment was the year Ricki & Tony did England.
I would be telling the owners this and looking for a similar outcome.

Weird that the Jets turned down 200k transfer fee for Brockie.

It's quite cool in a way. Having an owner putting winning the league, over money.

But it was also fairly stupid in hindsight, and a gamble that didn't pay off.

Will be happy to see Moss back. Pity we haven't snatched up some other quality youth talent from GCU yet

Tony Warner did a job for a season and we should all thank him for it, but Mossy will be even better, I'm sure.

Bollocks. Sign kiwi yongsters.

They weren't the best NYL side. Apart from Cooper if he declares for NZ use our youth spots on kiwis. Fed up with fourth rate Australian youngsters who are worsen NZ players.

Disclaimer: If Anderson needed a club we don't have any young Centre-Backs left domestically that would make a youth spot.

I agree if we are looking at getting a youth side ourselves. No point signing another Pav.
I've always said, if you have 2 players of similar quality, you should always choose the kiwi. That definetly applies to youth spots, as long as they get game time in some capacity.

If they don't get game time, we may as well sign aussie youngsters and have them rot in the chairmans lounge, not improving at all.
