I know you are joking but.... thats a bullsh*t line.

I notice in todays paper that the Hay coached Sacred Heart are top of the ladder at present

just trying to start a new conspiracy theory - explains why we missed out on Payne too!

In all seriousness Hay seems to be good at nurturing talent. I wonder if he'll try and move into coaching seniors at some point. Maybe Waitakere next season? Anyway that's off topic though. Back on Carmichael... I think that training at Sacred Heart while he's still in high school makes more sense than shifting to Wellington for the Nix scholarship. Once he's done with school, who knows? I'm not convinced that US college scholarships are a better route for youngsters than getting into a pro team early, but I guess it depends on the player and the college. For now I'm sure ricki's aware of him and is tracking his development so we just have to wait and see.

We were going to sign Payne if he didn't pick a contract up at Rovers. He is hardly going to turn down a chance to be at a Premiership (at the time) academy to sign with the Nix.

I thought that you werent eligible for US colleges if you had signed with a pro club before? But the accademy set up hasd been deliberately set up in a way so that these guys can still go to college - or did I misunderstand that

Really meaning is it a surprise he's not in the Phoenix kids?  Guess he is still pretty young.  I know nothing about any of the guys so interested in views

Well, from the previous incarnation of Nike's Chance Thomas Doyle also managed to get into the top 100 along with 3 Australians. Of those, Rogic is the only one, and I think one of two in that 100, to get a pro contract. One of the ozzies was in Hearts NYL team last season.

And from what I can remember, Tim Payne, Bill Tuiloma and Scott Basalaj stood out for me at the u17WC. He is still young enough to get another look in for the Phoenix youth and this experience should be good for his development.

Just to clarify: I was joking, although I thought that was obvious. I was making fun of the Ricki vs Danny spat and the common "we should have signed Payne" argument that crops up all the time here.

Uruguayan has gone home.  Apparently if we had a larger squad then he would have been a chance.

From twitter re striker signings... there is still hope. Was worried things had gone a bit quiet since ricki's england trip

@Andrew_Gourdie Any update on the striker hunt?

@mykeynz The search continues. "3 or 4" conversations going on. Hopes to have secured one by the end of the pre-season tour.

Apparently the young guy Tyler (that his first name?) is good.

TV3 news also claimed Bertos will be right back this season...

when does the squad have to be filled by? Just thinking about U21 players. Assuming 2 academy kids get the places, does that mean 2 more youngsters will join the academy?

You would hope they would add at least 1 more young guy. May even be easier for people to want to join if they see some accademy kids have already been promoted.

Hmm also interesting we havn't had more information on the striker front.

Especially seeing as most of the European leagues have kicked off - you'd think any strikers lying around would want to be sorting out their futures asap

14 goals in 160 odd appearances? That would give him about 2 goals in our league as a comparitive ratio. Also the amount of clubs he has been about. For a guy thats 29 it would suggest he does not gel where he is at and thus, moves on.

Or that he is just a shite footballer

Bruno Cazarine was on trial at Coventry City, but they decided not to sign him. He didn't set the league alight with Sydney but is good in the air and does get back to help defend. Pretty much all his goals for Sydney were headers, what probably would suit our style.

Didn't this striker talk start with someone telling a story about meeting Ritchie on holiday in Ruatoria and being told we were signing a striker from England?  If so, really?

Considering the financial difficulties in a lot of European leagues and the current relative strength of the kiwi (and aussie) dollar I'm pretty surprised we haven't been able to attract anyone at the moment.

Ifill/Totori/Brockie to lead the line, Pav on the bench and Boyd signed up to a full contract (and overtaking Pav). Prove me wrong Ricki!

Ricky won't be able to! you're spot on there. I bet my bottom $ it's gonna be as you said up front this season.
