I'd grab Thwaite as well. I like him as a defender. Always comes across as having plenty of heart.

Newcastle - 2 years.

Traore, Halloran, Mebrahtu and Twat for me, although mostl clubs will be chasing them.

Anyone heard anything about Brockie going to China?
Apparently the Jets refused to release him....he should have had an out clause in his contract. Fairly good contract was on offer. I guess he would be hoping the deal is still possible once he had finished with the Jets.
Still think he would be a useful squad player at the Nix

Would be a little surprised if Brockie went to China considering he isn't an AFC player.

Would like him in place of Bertos in our starting 11, although wasn't impressed in the Jamaica game (in between VPTV buffering all the time ).

Would take Cooper, Halloran, Mebrathu or Moss in a flash.

Brockie has an Aussie passport now? or at least has citizenship?

He would be foolish leaving Aussie until he gets it, opens up so many opportunities now.

Did anyone else see this from - http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/6516898/Durante-dismayed-Phoenix-game-was-in-limbo/

"His only headache is the composition of the bench.

One player out of contention is Daniel, who is scratched for the season with a "crack in his ankle".

"Herbert will decide whether or not to usher in a replacement after the weekend."

Wonder who he'd call in..

Wouldn't mind getting Jerrad Tyson from the Gold Coast as next season's reserve keeper. I know a lot of his saves in today's match were simply a case of the ball hitting him, but he showed he has good positional sense and he made a couple of good reflex saves. His distribution was probably his weakest point. At least he wouldn't chew up an import spot like Warner.

Mebrahtu huffs and puffs but he still hasn't actually scored a goal. He's like their Pavlova.valeo2012-03-04 20:10:44

I'm not quite convinced about Tyson yet. There is something a bit Kennedy-ish about him (although oddly Kennedy has been in his best ever form this season). Anyway, would be nice to get try and get one of the more talented Kiwis into the squad.

injury cover signing of a striker would be good for the finals push and -all going well - the series itself

Would have had to be signed before today's game, if they wanted to be eligible for the finals.

To be honest I'd much rather see us use Scott Basalaj or try get Sefan Marinovic in if we're after a young keeper.

What ever happened to Jacob Spoonely? Not going to go higher than Auckland City?

Spoonley has been done and if he had a chance he would be back there one would suspect, but he ain't playing at that club nor picked for his country (injured at the moment) which would suggest that perhaps Ricki is done with him. I know he is studying for a law degree so maybe he has decided that is his priority. Good on him if it is.

The highlights of the Saudi game don't really show Basalaj in a great light and when you consider he is not starting in the Premiership...

No idea.

Just biffing out the obvious answer among the conjecture.  If GCU are gone and not replaced there aren't many A-League clubs needing a keeper, so Mossy will need a job unless he fancies Eastern Europe again (it didn't go well last time).

He could go to Asia as a +1, not sure what leagues have transfer windows still open but could be a possibility.

As a goalkeeper myself, can I just say, these still count. He still had to be in the right spot.

If it touches you and it stopped the goal, then it was deliberate, and legendary.

I think he'd be a great second too.. looking at the 'local' available stocks.

I'd rather see our potential All White keepers for the future getting game time, not sitting on the bench as a 2nd keeper.goldienz2012-03-05 19:07:05

But if he can't get a club anywhere else...

I'd prefer him sitting on our bench waiting for Pasty to inevitably get an injury than playing in the VPL

Surprised there hasn't been a bit of chat about what, if any, GCU players we could posssibly pick up if they go bust. Heaps of talent there. Moss is one that obviously people have already been talking about.

Mitch Cooper, 17, Impressive. Also that midfielder Brillante. Halloran. Heaps of options there.

Have to be realistic though and think that they will only come here if they don't get offers from other A-League sides.

I wonder if Rigters still wants $400,000 per season? I would not give him 40 cents.

Apart from the young guys...that Dutchie midfielder Jungslager looked like a very useful player quite a few times this season. Mind you we have lots of midfielders

Another type of transfer, what dya reckon would be the odds of getting Mulvey to assist Ricki over the next few seasons? Seems to be doing exceptionally well at rallying a young team low on confidence and experince to punch above their weight

Plus, may bring over a bit of GCU's talent and youth...

And where will they play? The lack of an youth squad will come back and bite us in a few seasons. Sorting that out is the biggest off season issue for the club.

Apparently this is high on the agenda from Gareth in a past podcast and the Dom Post interview, iirc.

From Players Off Contract Thread:

Mark Paston, Chris Greenacre, Vince Lia, Dani Sanchez, Tony Warner, Daniel, Nick Ward, Niko Tsattalios, Brent Griffiths, Cameron Lindsay, Alex Smith

On the books for 2012-2013:

Andrew Durante, Paul Ifill, Manny Muscat, Ben SigmUnd, Tony Lochhead, Jimmy Downey, Tim Brown, Leo Bertos, Lucas Pantelis, Mirjan Pavlovic

Unfortunately we're stuck with Pav for another season.  Seems sad that Daniel probably played his last game for the Phoenix,we didn't get to say goodbye.

I'd pay Pav out.

You would expect them to re-sign Cam Lindsay based on Ricki talking him up as being an off the bench option next season and starter the following.

Interesting they are talking up O'Hallaran to Tards... mini judas will love that... he can then be released from playing wide midfield and he can then assume his mantle in the centre of midfield

I know I will be shot down in flames over this but here goes anyway.

What about trying someone like Dakota Lucas as Daniels injury replacement?. I have seen Lucas play about three times(earlier in the season, have not seen him lately) He looks to have skills that would could contribute to the Nix...especially as a late sub impact player. We seem to have a lot of "runners" and not many players who can go past a defender.

Lucas could add some variety. He does have good feet and is quick over 10 metres...plus he can score goals. I remember the impact Caceras used to make when he came on late against tiring defenses. Lucas is no Caceras but he could do stuff out wide that might be more influencial than the contributions we are seeing from Pav.

Sooner or later we are going to have to look at guys like Lucas anyway....with an aging squad. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to try him out now!!!
