Too obvious and too logical.

If he was ever gonna get a shot, now would be the time.
Would still be surprised.

Hmmmm maybe more than a coincidence that he got a run last night???

Good timing to be able to sing 'Last Christmas' on saturday but surely not?

In many many ways actually quite a logical choice!

Last seen sneaking sausages on the Nix A bench. He might be enjoying his retirement a little too much.

Bearing in mind how incredibly hard it is to find a good replacement for someone like ifill, who would only be playing for us for 4-6 weeks. Even if we did, would they have time to settle in and make an impact?

Get him, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federico_Higua%C3%ADn 13 games 5 goals in a crew side that lacked a lot last season.

What are the rules regarding international transfers? Will we have to wait until Jan, like sackwhacker has to, before they can play? Which then reduces the injury replacement period even further from the 'not really worth it' 4-6 weeks to the 'don't even bother' 2-4 weeks. If the estimate is correct it could be 5 games tops. And we have cover, 3 of Boyd, Fenton, Totori, Husygems and Brockie to choose from if we continue with 4321.

Guest stints are available outside the transfer windows I think, so could use that to grab a replacement. If they need an ITC, we would have to wait until the window opens mid Jan.

Don't get me wrong, I love the man but he'd be bench cover only though yeah as Ifill has been playing on the right so for Greenie to be included, it's gonna be a shuffle, wouldn't be a swap.

This leaves us quite short - if one of our attacking players goes down Jimmy Downey might be forced into a match day squad...god forbid...

I know it was a gag but Sanchez, Huysegems, Totori, Brockie, Boyd, Fenton, Leo, Smith (apparently) isn't short.

we can still sign a replacement for pavlovic as well right?

Not sure of the value of a guest stint, reckon we just go out and sign someone permanently

Wouldn't be surprised to see clapham or hogg get a contract (although hogg signing would be a tad crushing for young Rowe). Attacking options still healthy even with the loss of ifill for a month.

Hope Boyd gets a run, he is exciting, also the best singer.

Yes please. Or get Rowe in the mix. It'd just be nice to have someone at LB that isn't continually exposed for pace.

Disappointed by the lack of Killen speculation thus far. I thought that was the standard guest stint rumour.

Would like to see lindsay get a shot, but I havent seen enough of him to know if hes up to it.

I was impressed with Lindsay early on, but sounds like he's been pretty hit & miss lately.

That could be a bit to do with a lack of competitive football though

Can i ask - If you dont know that he's any good, why would you want him to play?

If Lindsay was going to play, he would have done so by now.... He has to be better than the people he is replacing. Ricki is playing the youngsters a little so....

Grumpy old bastard alert

he would have played in round 2 if he didnt get sick.

Hard for him when there are a few CMs in front of him, and Ricki doesnt seem to use defensive players on the bench if he has a choice.

His diversity would be ideal for a small bench if he was considered good enough though

Its stupid that squads are only allowed a bench of 3 out field players in the A-League. It would be nice if you could have most positions covered on the bench.

Surely the point of the academy is for situations like this? I say bring Biss or Watson into the squad, otherwise find room for Lindsay.

Permalink Permalink

We can't bring any of the academy in until the transfer window opens. Players signed purely for injury replacement reasons would be able to start playing straight away, IIRC.

Just play football for a random club overseas for a year, then everyone will be saying how ricki let you go and the nix should sign you. Easy.

So Ricki on the wireless talking about getting an attacking mid and/or more likely a fullback in January... or was that a replayed interview from 2009?

I've heard that Chris Killen might be looking for a loan spell before the Chinese season starts again.

Taken from the ACFC thread.

If I was Ian I'd sign for Team Wellington or Canterbury in the interim to keep out of Auckland's petty politicking. In Ian's favour Herbert stated today he's likely to sign an 'unknown' fullback in the January window. ?????
Ray Gatt tweeted the other day that Ricki was interested in a young kid from the Heart, Sam Mitchinson.
