Tuiloma looked decent for the Juniors. What a terrible game though.

Agreed Tuiloma looked OK in the U20 WC game. He is currently without a club having not been signed after his LA Galaxy trial. Interesting bio....Lincoln academy graduate, spent time and Galaxy where he played central striker for the Galaxy yoof team that won a off season tournament.

For sure the Nix should get him in on trial. Natural RB who can play LB as well. Looks a big strong unit and showed good pace in the UZ game and defended really really well. Plus he is a kiwi and is only 18. Hope Ernie had the alarm set and watched last nights game...or isn't Greenacre meant to be over there scouting? Could not see anyone else in the U20 team who is uncommitted already that would be a Nix signing, though would like to see more of Roux in the tournament

I would recomend watching at least the highlights of the goals, he did himself no favours.

Jeeeeez. Not sure how to sum up his game really. Had about 2 or 3 absolute howlers. One which led to the first goal and one that should've led to a goal.  Then he goes and pulls off 2 or 3 pretty spectacular saves. Based on that game though I'd say Balasaj is the better keeper and reckon he might start the next game.

He definitely wasn't signed by the Galaxy.

I thought he did sign on with Galaxy? Maybe just been released or didn't re-sign?

He was over there on a trial, and wasn't signed.

Right ok.

So this place has gone gaga for him like they did Hogg and others have for Crocombe?

Seems like it. Personally I haven's seen enough of him to say one way or the other. Mainly remember him from the U17s a couple of years back, where he was good, but it's hard to judge players at that level.

From what I have seen, he is composed on the ball but needs to be a bit quicker on it. Who knows, time will tell.

But surely he still isn't any better than Luke Rower and then of course Ian Hogg?

Not sure people are going gaga is quite how to describe it. Ernie said they would be having a good look at the U20's to see if there were any potential Nix players so its natural that we would also keep an eye on the team. People who watched the game said that Tulimona had a OK game and could be worth a Nix trial. No one said he is the next Marcello or Alves and should be signed immediately.
Did people go gaga over Crocombe???? good grief!!!! based on what....he honked like a field of geese! to quote someone from an earlier post

I think some people jumped to the conclusion that because Crocombe was playing in england (where he was mostly 3rd choice) he must be better than Basalaj.

I think ppl just said oh crocombe is tall and tuiloma is getting attention cos hes a RB. Tuiloma is worth a look or at v least an academy spot and a spot with TW

Bill Tuiloma is registered with Birkenhead Utd in the Northern PL.

He couldn't transfer at the time of the trial because he was younger than 18. He was good at the u17 and it is good to see he is still there abouts. No harm and having a closer look at him for the 'Nix.

Will be interesting to see what changes occur information for the next game.

Re: Crocombe. I still expected Basalaj to be the number one in qualifying as I thought he was supposed to be the better keeper. It was only when Crocombe was given the starting spot in most of the fixtures I realized he's obviously rated higher.

Basalji for sure. Roux and Tuimola (sp) went of injured so not sure if we will see them back so soon. Plus maybe Biss was not the answer in midfield.....did OK but it was an area where we got outplayed against UZ.
I just hope whoever plays that they play as a unit and fight it out for the whole match

The team on a whole just had no direction or ideas. First half we were just whacking it up to Watson who couldn't do much with it. 2nd half we took him off and just tried balls over the top. Nothing was going. If anything needs to change it has to be our approach and tactics because we were damn near shambolic in that match.

I still maintain....though I thought Roux looked off the pace and Boyd looked bored, disinterested or just lazy. Gulley and Jordan would hold things together nicely I'm sure
               Basalaj
Roux Adams Solomons Tuiloma
          Gulley   Jordan
Fenton      Payne         Howieson
                Boyd

If we are after a young Kiwi we could do a lot worse than Justin Gulley.

I agree we could do a lot worse, ie a kid with downs for example.

Didn't realise this: just read that the FFA are paying each club the entire salary cap the coming season, after previously subsidising  $1.9 million of the cap with the clubs paying the remaining $700,000.

The FFA sold the TV rights for the A-League last November to Fox (live rights) and SBS (delayed free-to-air rights) for  $ A 40 million / year over the next four years, starting next Monday, July 1st. This is double the previous TV deal. All A-League clubs, including the Nix are in for a hand-out of A$ 2.6 million per season, covering the entire salary cap.:

http://sportsbusinessinsider.com.au/international-news/ffa-doubles-up-with-new-broadcast-deal/

Frank Lowey: “We have to be prudent about it,” he added to the FFA’s official website. “The first thing we’re going to do is increase the subsidy to the clubs to the tune of $2.5 million, $2.6 million, to cover the salary cap. It was always my objective to do that, from day one. It took a few years to get there, but we are there. It’s very important. The clubs are playing a major part in the game. I without a good national competition there is no football. That’s what happened. Now we have a good competition, and the football is moving forward, but I think it will take another two or three years to really achieve our position where we should be.”

So, sweet financial times ahead for the Phoenix!!! Money in the bank...

Gulley is kind of in the Manny Muscat mould, except no where near as good. I've seen him torn to shreds as a full back but he's a better tackling/screening midfielder IMO.

Fuck this stupid game

he was never going to stay with us, and now we get to boooo him every time he touches the ball when he plays in Wellington.  That is a win in my book (I love the pantomine of booing someone everytime they touch the ball)
