Tarek played really well as an attacking right back this season and that suits the style Ricki tried to get the team playing early on. If we get him I will be very happy, imagine him tearing up one wing and connecting with Leo with Tony Lochhead and Daniel on the other!

But his defensive qualities arent the best, which was our weak point. I wouldnt like to see him at the nix next season.

He's still much better in that department than anything we have. And he's a young player, theres a lot of scope for his defending to improve.

Elrich isn't that bad a defender. Newcastle didn't exactly leak goals this year.

He's better than his brother - that's for sure (on current form anyway).

Tarek is the man, would like to see him in a Nix shirt, I strongly doubt he'll end up at Wellington though.

It looks like Lunatic is again busy pushing players to the Phoenix. He's not only mentioned that Vichelich is in on the rumour mill but has us linked with Luton Town's Richard Jackson. Here's what he posted on the unreliable 442 rumour mill:

"The club are set to unleash a new signing in the form of cash strapped Luton Town's Richard Jackson. The pacy defender is said to be looking for a stable income and a fresh start. deal to be done by the end of the month.

This article has been provided by:
Lunatic of Sydney"

I had a wee look see on the BBC 606 Luton forum and they don't rate him one bit and were hoping he'd go in the last transfer window...

A lot of the Oz papers are running with this one today (not to mention The Times in England). Usually if it gets into print it means there are at least a few confirmed sources, so there may be something in it. Or it could just be the crafty agent/lazy journalism correlation we've come to know and love!

Would be a coup for the Gold Coast, and the fact, sorry, 'fact', that they are actively chasing him suggests that they believe they will have the go-ahead for next season's campaign.

Sounds like we won't have to wait too long to hear who the Phoenix have signed...Pignata is back and said that several new signings will be announced in the next few weeks.

My money for first announcement is Durante.

I have more chance of playing in the A-League than Kanu( I'm fat and over forty)... where do these rumours start? There are probably 50 clubs in Europe that would sign Kanu tomorrow!

I'm not sure if Andy Cole would be much of a success here, but he would attract a few more people for sure.

cheers Ballane, Cole would be interesting and despite his probable lack of pace these days he could help bring Smeltz and/or Costa into the game with some intelligent layoffs

Andy Cole DOB 15/10/71.....so he's 37. Hard to imagine he'd have  much impact at that age.

Apparently former Knights Centre back Cole Tinkler is in talks with new Gold Coast based Galaxy franchise - news is that the assistant Gaffer will be a former Knights player too...

Would love to see Jay-Jay Okocha if he's still playing? Last I heard he was at Hull?
I think he would be a better version of both Juninho and Corica from Sydney.

Well he was age 19 and 20 when he was there. He will be turning 22 in early May. So he would have a decent season of NZFC under his belt. He might a good cheap buy for them and plenty for him to learn in a decent playing season. He would have improved over the last season, although I haven't seen him play much.

Andy Cole?

Well, I am not sure he be the one to put always up front, if he is slow. But is he slow for A-League. He has done everything and achieved at all levels of the game. Every EPL team he was with benefited greatly and is a major player. If he is not up to the speed, then he would be a great midfielder at A-League level easily. He's fit as from what I heard at 36, he has made comebacks from major injuries and still scores and is an influence to the teams. No dispute on his quality, even now.

Brisbane paper is calling John McKain as signing for the Phoenix (see front page news) and Gold Coast 'talking' to Karl Dodd.

I have not heard of John McKain, but Wikipedia (you have to search for Jonathan McKain, otherwise it will automatically direct you to the page for US presidential candidate John McCain) says:

Jonathan ("Jon") McKain (born September 21, 1982) is an Australian football (soccer) player, who currently plays for FCU Politehnica Timişoara in Romania's Liga 1. He is generally a defender but can also play in midfield.

He joined FC Politehnica in the summer of 2005, from fellow Divizia A side FC Naţional Bucureşti. He has also played for the Brisbane Strikers in Australia.

He has represented Australia and made three appearances at the 2005 Confederations Cup in Germany. He also represented Australia at the 2004 Olympics.

He also has 12 Australian caps, with the last one coming in 2006.

If you release someone because they want to go, I can't imagine you would pay a cent...

Of course, so far we have a source in a paper and that is all, it could even be about the following season.  I'm hopeful that we have a Dodd, Durante, Sigmund, Old set of options... maybe with McKain as well.

...although that is an awful lot of centre back.
