Greenace from Tranmere..
And how about his striker buddy from the same team.. Ian Moore. 32 years old.

I trust Ricki and co, and can't wait to here who we have signed!

With Tranmere in the play-offs, I suspect the delay in his signature is dependant on if his team gets promoted.

Sounds pretty 'maybe' doesn't it. Fingers crossed

Sounds like we will all be Sc***horpe fans till the end of the season, two games in hand 2 points behind, could knock Tranmere out of the playoff positions.

This is all a bit excruciating.  Does this mean the Norwich/Wigan angle didn't work out or is still on the boil???

Some thoughts on Greenacre from Tranmere fans (if we do get him and if it's even him we're targetting..)

Seems like his best days are behind him now (and he is currently injured and has been for almost the whole season) but he has been very popular with Tranmere fans.

Yeah in his highlights vid all the goals were from 2005.

And they weren't exactly amazing goals. Reminds me of Smeltz a bit from that vid - doesn't normally score spectacular strikes but latches on to scraps and finishes well.

well partner that with someone with pace or a creative striker and we could have ourselves the winning combo

So Greenacre is *maybe* one, anyone hazard a guess at who the other is?

And when does the League One season finish?ScoobyD2009-04-15 22:58:30

The Hyundai A-League website is reporting that the Brazilian star Denilson is likely to be playing in the A-League for 7 matches as a guest player.  The deal would involve Denilson spending the pre-season with the club.  There are currently two (unnamed) clubs in negotiations with his agent.  Sydney FC is not one of the two clubs.

I'm not sure about this Greenace guy.. Would we risk signing someone that has been injured recently, and is getting a bit older..

Are we talking about the same video? Anyone who can score two bicycle kicks looks pretty good to me.

On Radio sport news just now, announcing Dodd being released but TP being quoted as saying the English striker has signed and they are just awaiting confirmation of the signature by fax. Watch this space (well not this actual space but one near-by)......

Fax-machine must be from the '50's if it's taking this long.  Have they organized a press conference for any time soon?

You know how long these legal documents are. Probably a paper jam.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Football is about gambling. Few rules apply when you purchase the services of a player. Brazilians usually make good footballers, but then again, sometimes you end up with George.

To me, old english strikers aren't the way to go, but then again, this doesn't mean that whoever we are going to sign won't be good.

I just hope we will know something certain in the near future. Can't wait to go and spy on the nix training sessions again!!!

Greenacres + Denilson? I can live with that!!

PS I dont really think Denilson will come to us..but I know that Terry and Tony are second to none in entrepeunurism ----> yes I have made up a new word! but y'all got the idea of what I meant :)

sorry yeh I made this comment further back- and there were some from 2005, but also several from fairly recently as well.

as to the Smeltz comparison- he's similar in that he seems to score equally well with both his head and feet. He is able to make for himself, and as someone said clean up the scraps.

I think he looks a bit nippier that Smeltz perhaps- and he seems to make good runs.

thats a generalisation. I know Ricki likes a bet on the gg's - but he's no Wayne Rooney

you're right but let's face it: sometimes club spend top money on players who are known to be of proven quality and it still doesn't work out. conversely, if you're lucky you can find a guy named Totti or Del Piero in your backyard. I didn't mean to say that the Nix are just going to take a shot in the dark with those UK based strikers, but still I've never heard of GreenArse or whatever his name is [just like very few people had heard of Shane Smeltz before he featured in the Wales game]. I just hope they pick the right people.
That said, I always stood behind the club in the past.

Sounds like it's Perth making the bid for Denilson.

Jeesus....I thought the Denilson thing was a joke....but it looks like it will happen. I remember him in his prime...astonishing footwork  speed and ball control. At 31 he still will do the business.

Must say I can't wait until the season kicks off. Seeing the phoenix playing again will be excellent. But also going to watch Fowler and Denilson play will be a great attraction. It will be interesting  if "see the legend Fowler" will put a few more bums on seats at the ROF.

To all those desperate for phoenix transfer news just be patient. WE currently only have 16 players on the books. Tony P did say that he learnt his lesson from last year. There will be no news until anyone is 100% signed and sealed. Expect lots of action in the next 3 to 4 weeks.....

Funny how we aren't excited by greenacres but we all were desperate for porter.  The difference being one is an aussie 30 year old and one is an english 30 year old.

Hmm, that's gotten me confused.

But then everyone now wants Denilson, a 30 year old, who can't get a club and hasn't played a full season of football for three or four years.

Hmm...

I agree with Dean on Denilson, looking at his history he has not done very much for a while, however, if ricki can't get the best out of him he still has he potential to light up the league.

Time will tell if we get him, and if he still has it.

Spoonly for gaolie. get another kiwi in there or Gleeson as he is under 20 and we need 1 or 2 more under that age.

We need a goalie at least as good as Paston. Not a kid

A lot can happen in a few years. I mean look at Jardel. Denilson seems to have lost his passion, a shame as he was amazing. This Greenacre has a good pedigree, lacking goals of late, but looks like a good signing

Denilson was never really that good, he never cracked it at club level in Europe.  I am predicting a lot of step overs, a lot of diving, very few goals and an early departure.  I wonder why after the general failure of these "celebrity" guest players anyone is still interested.

Yes, zero tackles in his allotted matches (possible exception if Jamie Harnwell does his nut and tries to tackle him)

Although we have had plenty of flops in this league, I think the guest player idea is fantastic and if a club can make it work they'll reap the benefits. A lot of poor luck for clubs bringing in ageing (mainly Brazilian) stars in the A-League so far though.

Not sure where I read this but there is a Brazillian keeper who has asked and been granted a trail with the Nix. Played professionally in Brazil and is either in Marlborough or Queenstown. May be  a bit of self promoting.

Everything that's been said about why Denilson would not be a good aquisition is probably right but how cool would it be to be able to promote a Glory vs Nix game as a battle of the Brazilians - the Nix's Diego, Daniel and Fred (hopefully) take on the Glory featuring 2 times Brazilian World Cup star Denilson.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)
