Should we resign him? I think he's a useful guy to have in the squad as a bench player as he can play in several positions. Last season I thought he had some good contributions from the bench.

He obviously wants first team football but I think he's realistic enough to realise that probably isn't going to happen. And if he doesn't get resigned where does he think he's going to go to keep in the frame for the AWs? I don't think an overseas club would want to use an import slot on him.

I agree totally, Christie is what you want as a sub.

I like christie but just pretty unsure on if we want him in the side. He's versatile in many positions but not spectacular either. Its tricky.

If we have a space then take him.

Also we still need to sort out some youth players and perhaps there are some young guys almost at the level of Christie? Because ideally, any youth we get, we should be giving game time and the space to grow into a better player. So finding someone to take on Christies role as super sub would be good. We don't want another Draper situation

Unfortunately for Christie, he is really at the bottom of the list and is going to have to wait for these youth players, strikers and keeper to come in before a decision is made.

With Johnson gone we need cover in midfield - he looked pretty good when he did come on last season. More decisive and quicker too.

We also mustn't forget that Vince Lia will be in the reckoning for starting spots at either RB or in the midfield. Manny provided good cover at RB and if he cements that starting position Vince Lia would be a better option on the bench than Christie. IMHO.

As alluded elsewhere, if Diego gets injured we will most likely end up with the same midfield combination as used in most games last season, McKain, Ferrante and Brown, and for this reason could see Christie only signed if superior cover is not signed.

Unfortunately I see Christie only signed if we have enough strikers, 'keepers, youth and AM'ers

Exactly, with Lia back in Christie slips even further down the pecking order I think

I disagree, he'll be the new Archie Thompson

Christie's pretty handy, we should sign him.

And Krishna too, plus one English striker.

I'm just making this up as I go along ...

He's quick, he can control a ball, and finish a chance.  He's already better than Archie.

Corkster I'd love to see Krishna get a chance at a higher level, Sigmund showed that players can make the step up and this is the one advantage we have over the aussies, we (should) get first dibs on players from the NZFC.  Also, if the NZFC can't provide players for the Phoenix and the A-League there really is no incentive for players to come or stay and play in it, and thats also important.

It's just unfortunate that he's an overseas player and for that reason I think we're holding back until we see where we go with respect to our first XI recruiting.

And he has pace, something we've always lacked.

Agree, Christie at best a squad player and we still have Mulligan who is also at best a squad player both covering midfield and right back. No room for both and if Christie out of contract do not see any great need to sign him up again.

Thanks, you're absolutely right they are more versatile than I thought.

If we want pace, and for that matter any foreign striker from the NZFC, sign Corrales

anyone think that Ricki and tony may have been in talks with Kevin Phillips?
I saw on 442 that Perth were talking to him apparantly, maybe tony and Ricki snuck in there as well... would love to see him come to the nix!

yeah i saw that too, would be a great aquisition.
He's real quality and still banging them in now.

But he is 35.. and he's gonna want quite a bit of money I think so is he worth Marquee status?
Possibly

didn't realise he was 35, but i remember him scoring some wicked goals for Sunderland in his golden boot year (even though that was 9 years ago )  I'd be quite happy to sign him on as marquee personally...

He'd have to still be class to be worth Marquee because I know that lots of fans will go 'Kevin Who?'

Honestly Oska, I'm a fan of Luis, but I actually think (based on the semi's) that Krishna > Corrales.

He's still been banging them in this year and last year in the championship. It was a suprise when WBA didn't hold on to him when they went up to the EPL.

Would be a terrific signing.

Was wondering if Jack Pelter would qualify as a youth player, no clue whats happened to him since he left Sunderland. I think if Dodd leaves he wouldnt be a bad one to try and replace him with.

I hope the overseas player that stops Roy from getting picked up (if that does happen) doesn't turn out to be a dud.

How young? I'm hardly an aged old man and I remember him belting in the goals wherever he went - 30 goals in the 99-00 season I think. But he has scored regularly ever since

Oops, looks like Glory might be in trouble over Kevin Phillips. If they have approached him without Birminghams OK then they're in the sh*t

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=631495&sec=england&cc=3888

Also looks like he's not available anyway:
"Birmingham City FC can confirm that they have received no approach from any club regarding Kevin Phillips, and that they would not welcome any."

I feel sorry for Perth, they have probably followed the FFA lead of ignoring transfer rules but have run in to a club that expects them to obey the international rules.

If it was them talking about an A-League player (or if it was Miron) the FFA would just let it go.

I think the FFA should get a reprimand aswell for allowing clubs to act thin this manner. Whats the point in trying to foolow the rules if nothing happend when they get broken. next thing you know it'll be open season on punching lino's in the sack... oh wait... too late.

Much agreed, There has been a lot of hype surrounding Luis this year and questions as to why the Phoenix don't look at him, I reckon the game we won 4-1 or 4-0 against Canterbury answered that all, he had literally about 30 chances but only finished two, missed some absolute sitters in that game and it doesn't take very long for a smart defence to figure out how to mark him, Waitakere showed this in the semi at home where he was fairly useless for most of the game.

Krishna however is another story, looks about 5 times fitter as Corrales, is equally as fast and that guy can seriously hit the ball well, even though he is small I noticed he doesn't get knocked off the ball that fast. I seriously think the Nix should pick him up, not to play in the starting squad but I think he could make an amazing impact player and with the more experience he gets will get better and better!

Well on Krishna's showing today, lots of skill, but the lack of a killer touch. Very similar to Costa, but better. I wouldn't want him as a starting striker for the Nix, but would be a good sub, but then of course we already have Costa.....

His performances late last season could mean much more gametime right from the start this year though. We know he can perform fairly well when the pressure is on.

so with Brown, Ferrante and Lia doing the same role, are we gonna save some money and not offer Plodder another contract?

Is Manny Muscat signed on for next season?

There any chance Ricki Herbert will check out the Thai talent and see if any players could fit in at the Phoenix.
