Whats this?
A thai player that sounds good. I've always thought we should be looking into these lower Asian sides. Will be interesting to see how he stacks up technically as well as physically

Apparently he was cheap as well because of the currency differences. Will be interesting to see how he goes - I remember he played pretty well against Melbourne in the ACL.

I dont know if he is that cheap, he commanded a transfer fee, how many do that? And his salary is reasonable, remembering that both these figures are in $aussie dollars

"The Bangkok Post reported that Surat, who can play in midfield or defence and has been capped 15 times for Thailand, would cross to the Victory for a transfer fee of 1.5 million baht ($57,704), and has agreed a two-year contract worth 3.7 million baht ($142,167)."

Isn't too expensive. He'll probably justify that cost. It seems melb are starting to be willing to put money in for a player. It doesn't happen often but the more it does perhaps it'll build our league

It seems fashionable at the moment to play Chinese sides but I wonder if pre season tours to SE Asia would make just as much sense. Melbourne played a home and away against Chonburi and have identified two players which they have ended up taking as a result (Fabiano was also found there).

Also wonder if any likely candidates were picked up on when the All Whites were in Thailand.

Maybe Ricki was wearing his All Whites hat, and wasn't thinking of the Nix at the time?

Surely he would look into any player that took his interest.

At least that picture looks better than how they were training.

I don't reckon this thread would be as popular if it was called "Phoenix Transfer - speculum".
I like tautologies because I like them.

Todd's Derby team-mate, Socceroo Mile Sterjovski has also been linked to Perth after the Rams let him go with a year remaining on his contract. Maybe we could persuade him to put on the nix kit..

Sterjovski is a good player but he isn't what we need. He has played a second striker but if I remember correct he's predominantly a winger/attacking mid. If we hadn't signed Diego, however.. valeo2009-05-18 22:48:00

People are still talking about picking up Fred though, but that would be for another guest stint methinks, if at all. Would Mile fit that mould and provide cover in attacking mid?

Guest stints are stupid.  Just sign or don't sign a player, don't muck around with a couple of weeks with the club imo.

If Samuel Eto'o was considering a few weeks break down under would you turn him down?

If we are considering kruse then I'll throw Lei Lei Gao in the hat, same moody, can't be arsed attitude, but actually has a bit of skill.

Would reluctantly accept.  But I'd prefer he just grew up and signed a proper contract, not a guest thing to earn a disproportionately high amount of money for a few weeks 'work'.

If the Nix are going to get a guest player from the MLS then why don't they attempt to get that leagues highest scorer- Landon Donavan?

No connections with the A-League for a start, and he is top scorer in a much higher quality league, not to mention being a USA international...
I'm all for at least having a crack at nabbing him though.

You never know. Their season finishes before ours (I think) and he would be cheaper than a guest from a top European league.

He has played in Wellington before too ...

He played in Sydney in 2000 (Olympics) and said he loved it, and has recently (last couple years, might have been around the Beckham tour?) been quoted as saying he'd consider signing for an A-League club some day. So I'd say while it's highly unlikely right now, he may pursue it in the future.

I do know...he is one of the highest paid players in the MLS and the pin-up boy for the national side.  If he's going anywhere it's back to Europe, not a 4 week stint in Wellington for a fraction of what he is paid in the US.

Which makes it even more unlikely.

He also came for the men's U17 WC years ago.  Him and Damarcus Beasley were in the American squad.

Whilst pre-occupied with other things caught a few comments in the background from Tony P on the radio this morning which I thought were to the effect that; very happy with Crowther who will be offered contract (not sure comment was that definitive but it was along that line), Kruse was here for a couple of days with manager, we're keen to sign him and ball is in his court (i.e presumably we have made an offer), nothing between Krishna and Corales - they will need to now show what they are made of in match situations.

All good but would feel a hell of lot more confident about next season if someone had their arse on a plane to the UK to close the deal on Targetman.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

That would be $US 900K per season
