Just looking over some MLS contract details. Two main points:
1. Fred was earning over US$200,000 at DC. Assuming that the offer from the 'Nix was at all credible, it must have been in that ball park. (After all, the current story is that Fred stayed for a Green Card, not money.) From this, I take it that the club is prepared to lay out a fair spread of cash in January.
2. MLS is at serious odds with the Player's Union right now. There's talk of a player strike (won't happen, but it's a sign of serious discontent). If the players get done over, there could be some tidy players looking to ply their trade in a friendlier labour market.
