Hagley Park is a bitch.  I've lived here 15 years and can't navigate my way through it.

Having said that keen for the kick-around.

Come on crowd of 10 000.  I'm just chuffed to see some advertising.

Anyway, Woolston or Garrick Park would be closer I would have thought?

Do you want to be near AMI? or the town centre?

Garrick Park is close(ish) to AMI, probably a 5-10 min drive away.

Or if the game is to be near the centre of town, Hagley Park has posts up, only about 15 mins walk from the Square.

Garrick Park is used for club cricket in the summer- unlikely to have goals up at this stage.
Hagley Park the best option I think- just head from the Cathedral straight down Worcester Boulevard to the end (cross the river, past City Art Gallery, past Arts Centre) and turn right at end where the Museum is. Proceed down Rolleston Ave past Christs College, continue when Rolleston changes its name to Park Terrace, now following the river around on your left until you see some soccer goals on the other side of the river. YOU ARE THERE!

PLENTY TO KEEP PHOENIX SUPPORTERS ENTERTAINED THAT WEEKEND:
THINGS HAPPENING THAT WEEK IN TOWN:
1. World Buskers Festival (finishes Sunday 31st)- annual ChCh event- one of the world's biggest festivals of professional street entertainers. Is actually a lot of variety- many of NZ's finest stand-up comedians with overseas guests feature in night shows at some bars (minimal like $5 entry), selection of the best street performers every night on stage at 7pm at the Arts Centre on an outdoor stage in the quad (gold coin entry), afternoon and evening high-wire trapese shows in Victoria Square, continuous performances around town during the day (the Square, City Mall, in front of Crowne Plaza hotel, Arts Centre etc.)- all the outdoor daytime shows are free (donation if want to).
A lot of talented performers from all six continents (many have professional circus training: fire-eaters, sword swallowers, stilt-walkers, contortionists, tricksters etc.)

2. "SOUNDAY 2010" ROCK CONCERT: all day in Hagley Park-  ON MATCHDAY SATURDAY !!!
Phoenix Foundation (that has to be an omen!), Don McGlashan, P-Money, the Nameless Sons, Electric Wire Hustle, Sleepy Age, Ghost, Module, Marianne Dissard, and the well-known alt-country duo the Handsome Family from the States. Info: www.fabel.co.nz or www.rdu.org.nz
(adults $27, "youths" $20, kids free. Tickets: www.rdu.org.nz or www.moshtix.co.nz or Moshtix outlets) Bars and food sales- relax in the sun (hopefully!) on the grass or under a tree!

The Phoenix game gets a full page ad in the "Summertimes" Festival events guide out the last week in every letterbox in town: www.summertimes.co.nz

It's going to be a huge weekend down here!!!!

Buskers festival is somewhat awful.  I've seen a few of the 'performances'.  One chap called Lance just walked around saying 'my name's Lance and I like to dance' - he didn't do any dancing for us, he just said that a few times and tried to collect donations.  Miserable prick.  Didn't give him a cent (not that I would have anyway).

Then there was a chap who had a stick and shook it and said 'shake speare'.  Simply awful.

Phoenix are by far and way the attraction of the weekend.

I would be dissapointed if the crowd was less than 10,000.
First event for the new stand, The Nix have a lot of support down here, riding teh All Whites Wave,  will be an important game as nearing the business end of the season -
Saw the Billboard advertising the game down brougham St last week, looking forward to it more than Christmas!

You can print them off the Phoenix site, I believe.  At least you could for previous games.

Plan to chuck some up at work.

Its admirable for the Nix to try and spread the football gospel by taking games on the road and its wonderful for the fine people of Canterbury to see some A-league action but FFS we are in the business of trying to get into the playoffs.

This game is NOT a home game for the Phoenix. All the players say they love being at the ROF in front of the home fans...they play better there....we have not lost there for a year and a half. We are surrendering a significant advantage by not playing at the ROF. The Phoenix football club is not a travelling circus. Man U does not play home games at Grimsby.

The Phoenix is a privately owned football club....its primary aim is to win the A-league....we should leave the promotion of football up to the NZF....thats the end of my rant...I'm sure there will be lots who disagree with me!!!!!!

cos we are like Man U is so many other ways..
though I think they were tryin g to play one in Japan or China...?

Sadly I can't go to the game, but am happy to give away my 2 tickets. They are in Deans Stand Lower Bowl GA.

If you would like them, PM me with a stitch in your stomach joke or tell me your favourite BYC shot and they are yours!

I'm from ChCh. The wife, myself and the kids go to Wellington three times a year to watch the Phoenix. The last game was at Palmy, BUGGER about the loss all the other games have been wins.
It was great having the Speights pub up there for a pre game pint or three, has anyone thought about a pub down here for the same, put the Fever Banner up etc and fly the colours.
We have family coming to the ChCh game from Auckland, they had never been to a football game prior to Pamly and they loved it.
Just thought I would mention about a Pub just incase we get some of that wet stuff from above.
I'll probably have around 30 people going to the game and a beer before and after .
Cant wait.

Doesnt sound like official festival entries- there's always some uninvited idiots who gatecrash it.
Take my word- these are usually acts which are popular overseas at places like the Edinburgh Festival, LA, london, New York, Toronto etc.
Many have trained at places like the Moscow Circus School or at least the CPIT Circus School.
Highwire trapeze act in Victoria Square is pretty good, as is evening show at the Arts Centre.
Stand-up comedy acts will be on at some bars in town after the Phoenix game- again some big
(Kiwi) names and good overseas talent.
Or check out some performances in the city before the game.
For me the Phoenix are the weekend highlight too- just saying there's plenty of other stuff on to keep Nix supporters entertained the whole weekend.

Yeah it's got those stupid cross paths like Cramner. Didn't really think of that... Cathedral College would be best in terms of a field near Lancaster Park. But I assume people just want to meet up close to Hotels/Backpackers/close to city and on the way from town to the stadium.

Gidday Lads,

Anyone driving down from Nelson for the match? Thought I'd try my luck before booking a bus ticket. Don't fancy sitting in a bus for 7hours.

Cheers

Has anybody heard if the Nix are going to be in Christchurch on Monday 11th Jan'.                     As my better half says she heard on a Radio station, that they were going to be at Cathedral Square, signing autograph's and having a kicking competition. Bit early....Unless the station stuffed up the dates. She cant remember which station she heard it on.

I highly doubt they will be making a special trip to Christchurch to sign autographs. You never know though...

Could be possibly, local trip around NZ in between home games.

Would be helpful to build up the crowd for the game against Adelaide.

The wife is right. I heard it on the radio myself driving to work last night. I was tuned to Classic Hits here in Christchurch. The team will be in the Square between 11am and 1pm on Monday the 11th.

Budding All Whites have the chance to impress coach Ricki Herbert during a visit to Christchurch on Monday January 11. Herbert will be here to promote the Phoenix A-League game against Adelaide United at AMI Stadium on Saturday January 30th. Herbert will be joined by Phoenix captain Andrew Durante and former Christchurch United player and current All White Ben Sigmund.

Fans are invited to meet the trio at Cathedral Square from 11am to 1pm on Monday and take part in activities including five-a-side games, kicking competitions and poster signing. Herbert said he's always looking out for future Phoenix and All Whites players and he'll be happy to give out tips to help willing youngsters hone their skills.

Two lucky fans will also win the opportunity to be the Phoenix's official mascots for the Adelaide game.

The game at AMI Stadium will be the first time an A-League game has been played in Christchurch and will be the first event at the Stadium since the completion of the redevelopment. Gates open at 4:30pm and prior to kick-off at 7pm there will be a celebrity match and a parade featuring young players from local clubs.

Yeah, Durante, Siggy with Ricky gonna be in Cathedral square so get down all fans. I will drop down on lunch break since I'm already so close. Hope we get a few people down. Not sure what they'll be doing for 2 hours though.

Hope it doesn't rain as then I won't be going to Action Indoor Sports.
