This. So much this.

If Chch had a franchise i can guarantee that they would not get higher crowd numbers than the Phoenix on average over the course of a season.

lets not get into this agrument.
How about we agree that last nights attendence was fantastic, the South Island are really behind this team, the support the Phoenix get in Wellington is great - Wellington deserve to have them

I can reluctantly agree on that

Three for me, and two for them.

Yep the crowd was awesome, but one off
One thing that makes last night even better was when they compare it to the Adelaide game crowd in season one. Let's not forget that the tickets were mostly free that night, so ChCh was more legit

Its not just about crowd numbers. Where would the players come from for a new team? NZ is pretty well stretched with one a-league team bringing another one in atm would stretch it more.
We could try and lure some overseas kiwis back home, but we would most likely end up filling up the roster with aussies which I dont mind but is not ideal as aust fans and future potential clubs would wine weekly about a NZ franchise using up aussie players that could be playing for aust clubs.
All that aside last night was a great feather in the hat for Christchurch, Wellington and New Zealand football. As well as great for the a-league, im sure it hasnt gone unnoticed by football australia and they would be delighted (behind closed doors) at what is going on in NZ football.

Just on another note the whole AFC/Nix debate going on doesnt really worry me, in reality Fifa will not kick the nix out, the AFC (Mohamad Hamman)  may try but in the end fifa decides. It is envitable that NZ (and oceania) merge in some way with asia.

Correct. Its about promoting Phoenix around the country. Good on Terry. But lets get realistic. If ACDC werent performing yesteray in Wellington then they would of played at ROF.

Hopefully all the games will be in Wellington, but as long as we don't have to go to Palmerston North again, then one game in ChCH might be ok.

Chch has definately earned a game for next season, I would love to see one at Eden Park as well. Maybe even at the new Dunedin stadium the following season with all the scarfies would be great.
As long as these cities get great crowds(15k+), giving 2 or 3 games out of 14 nix games per season would be great for NZ football.

Who cares if it's a one off? Surely 19000 people is good for everything? and finally Terry may of made some $? ;)

Too many issues associated with moving a Regular Season match out of Wellington as discussed many times on this forum.

To the people of South Island, congratulations on turning to watch the Phoenix win. The crowd figure was brilliant. But please do not get all emotional over the number of people who were there for a once off event.

Just remember what happened to Dorkland after they tried to better Wellington's 31K to watch that joke from LA...

That is Auckland though christchurch is completly different.

We have a big ex pat english population here, who are starved of football.
Yes a one off crowd would always be bigger.

I would say though if they come down next year, they would get a crowd that is even bigger.

I think we at least deserve another match next year.

Try telling Season Ticket Holders they are going to miss out at least once a season...

I reckon the loss of the novelty factor, the loss of the 'first game in the new stand' means it would be unlikely to be larger.

Would still be a good crowd though.

Well just got back to Wellington and I throughly enjoyed that match, especially the Fever Zone considering at one point before the game I was expecting a royal F*** up with seating... To the d*** down the front doing his mexican wave I hope your boyfriend knows you were at the game :P. Anyways CHCH deserve a game next year imo.

I would say this is irrelevant. English (or British) people aren't the only people who like football in this country.

Three for me, and two for them.

I think that that crowd we got last night warrants one game a season down in Christchurch!

Is there not a way the Phoenix could strike a deal. Like deals on flights or the ferry down? Or even not charge the price on the season ticket for that game? IDK just an idea, though i do see them coming back down next year.

If you didn't go to the game in CHCH or Palmerston north  and were a season pass holder you still paid for it.

Not sure what the match schedule for next season is with melb heart coming in. If we go from 27 to 30 game season thats 15 home games, I reckon 1 game at Ami Stadium and 1 at Eden Park.

That would leave 13 games at the caketin and schedule it so there isnt a 4 or 5 week break between games there that just breaks up the momentum of the season.eg well, bris, auckl, well, melb, perth, well, newc, etc
Its important to try and keep a "flow' to the season for the nix supporters unlike this season which seems to have been out of sync (you know what I mean?) hmm maybe its just me.

Seeing as the tickets were the same as last season for the same number of home games in Wellington then I'm not sure that's true.  Rather Season ticket holders got two free games, they didn't pay for.

Auckland had their chance Twice to get behind a football side and didn't want to know about it.
Agree the fixture set up this season is sh*te should be home-away-home-away
But just because more teams are coming into the league next season doesn't mean we have to start moving the Phoenix around the country willy nilly

Same reason they played in chch, to gain more support for the club.
Its all about strenghtening NZ football, the nix are the perfect vehicle to do that.

That wasn't the reason they came down here was it? It's cause the ring of fire was filled up for Acdc?

Whatever the reason the nix are stronger for it. I am only talking about playing 2 out 15 home games away from wellington as it will help build a case for a second nz franchise in the future. I would be saying the same thing if it was the other way round and there was no team in wellington.
These are important steps to paving the way for nz to have 3 a-league teams in 12-15 years.

Well done to chch for getting the numbers but did the players really feel it was a home game to the extent that we had a playing advantage - based on reports in the press from Nix players this as not the case.

The ground, conditions etc were  not to our advantage as we hadn't really played there before, though the great crowd was ... fantastic..

If I was playing to win the competition I would try and keep my games at the real home as much as possible particularly as it does seem to get us results as evidenced through the 18 game no losses at ROF.

Yep, take the game out to the other cities as part of pre-season and get more interest. Hopefully those liking it will want to come up to Wellie for 1 or more games and witness a real home game of the Nix and that will be a good result based on the players knowing they do really have  home game advantage. Hopefully if the NZFC issue with Nix having a 'reserve' team in the NZFC is resolved, that game could be the curtain raiser which may stimulate even more interest for those supporters of the away NZFC team to come watch their team play the Nix reserves and then get good value with the Nix game following......great for all including value for money for everyone and more interest and people watching the NZFC games (and not to mention valuable game time for our non playing team members) !!!!

Hi I was there last night.....it was the best game ive ever seen as it was my very first pro footie match.    The atmosphere was awesome and I had the best ime ever. The game was exciting as we only got one goal and Adelaide could have scored at anytime. But our keeper was tooooo good. Cant wait till my next big game.
