Make that lowlights of the game
Muscat and Siggy had to go but the tackle on Durante was disgusting, a real leg breaker, how the hell the other guy stayed on the field I don't know.
Nasty from Siggy, came in full speed with a flying elbow to the back of Wehrman's head, knocked him right over. Thiago went batshit with the fist throwing on Manny. Also showed earlier instances of players coming right through the back of Brockie and Smith. 3 News said FFA will review the footage tomorrow and suggested those involved could miss the start of the A-League season, interesting
Losing Durante and Manny for the start of the season would be a huge blow, especially considering we lose all of the All Whites for the round 2 game against Heart. It would effectively reduce us to a B team, with only our foreigners out of our regular squad being able to play.

It wasn't a compitition game though just a friendly so I can't see how the would ban the players. Even if somehow they do get 2 game bans then they can just serve them on the tour to India.
It will add a bit of spice to games against Newcastle this season though.
If Siggy, Dura and Manny do end up getting bans, who partners Boxall in defence against Sydney? Are any of the kids a CB?
Alec Solomons is a CB. Lindsay could also play there at a pinch.
I think they could ban them from A-League games - as these freindlies between A-League sides are organised by the FFA.
Realistically they should be banned from the WSW games and I won't be surprised if they do get a ban for the start of the league.
It wont affect any of the india games unfortunately.
The club should take a stance and discipline these guys publicly and maybe the FFA wont ban them if they can see they are being punished
Lol, brawl even made news here on Ch-9.

Yeah thats what ive been saying the whole time, and no they wouldnt serve them on the India tour because FFA have no rights whatsoever over what the Nix do over there.
But i guess if FFA want to make an example of players and ban them for the first couple of rounds, then whats stopping them? I know theres no set in stone rule for preseason send offs, and if it was something like a handball preventing a goal and someone was sent off i doubt FFA would care, but this was pretty bad. So bad that if it didnt happen we would never have heard anything in the media about this game.
I think the India games would be no different to games against other A-League teams, as they all have to be FFA sanctioned? Hence why the games against Mirimar and Lower Hutt were labelled 'opposed training sessions'.
Pretty poor from both Manny and Siggy. You'd think they would learn the first times they have got their red mist on.
What the heck??
did it look to you like they were trying to injure us in pre-season, ala Aussie pre- world cup?
Still classy thing would have been not to punch the guy and have an all in brawl. Kinda shameful for Phoenix fans trying to explain this to non-fans.
If someone stabbed Iffill in he face during a pre-season friendly we would want him (or her) banned. It should not be a surprise if both Manny and Siggy get bans for punching other A league players. In fact, it should be expected

If it was a league match, then I would agree with you completely. However, red cards picked up in pre-season matches should not result in a FFA imposed suspension that affects league matches. Otherwise, it would be far more beneficial to us to just play unsanctioned matches without FFA having any say in the match at all.
Aclub-imposed suspension is a completely different story again.

I dont even know what 'sanctioned' refers to as the Aussie media have been reporting on our games against Lower Hutt and Miramar even though they were just apparently 'training' sessions.
For what its worth that someone is pig face, aka Robbie Kruse. Completely and 100% justified
This is embarassing. I hope the club come down hard on Sigmund, Muscat and especially Durante.
They should be fined and suspended - too bad if they're the spine of our defence. They're all experienced players, and Durante is our captain.
You can't blame the ref for this.
What a poor example to be setting to kids.
I hope none of them are in the squad for our first game in October.
can't blame the ref for allowing the jets players to foul without cards??? of course you can, most of know full well what its like to play when the ref is allowing anything ewarly on - it becomes a blood bath. This is the result of tempers flaring due to the nix been carded for first offences and the jets getting away with murder - sure no excuses from us for punches etc but the root cause is a an inexperienced ref.
Queenslander 3x a year.
Even the Jets coach called out the ref ..
I'm hoping for a stiff fine for all players involved and a fine for the clubs as well, with a review of the ref's performance and whether he should be officiating A League games. League bans for incidents in a freindly are a dangerous precedent but fines would still indicate that action has been taken.

All the red cards for our guys were fully deserved, for absolutely disgraceful actions. All the talk of inexperienced ref is just a smoke screen, all 3 guys on our team have put in a lot of bad and mistimed tackles in the past, and I'm pretty sure none of them would want to be punched/elbowed in the back of the head/ kicked at in return.
Add in the fact that both Siggy and Moosekat have a history of nasty challenges that have led to red cards (or not in some cases), and the chances are the FFA will be looking at this very closely.
And yes, I do believe that the club should come out and publicly state that this is not acceptable behaviour on the football field, and an intra-club fine or even a suspension shouldn't be dismissed as an option.
I was lucky enough to be in transit at Sydney airport the same time as boys where on their way up to India via Singapore.
Had a good chat
True Fact ....the movie on the team bus from Sydney to Newcastle was "The Firm"
For those who have seen the movie about football Hooligans, would agree maybe not appropriate viewing before a game.
As explained to me, what transpired is pretty well summed up in 2B`s post from the Newcastle forum
Appraently Iffy lucky not to go as well.. A great headlock on the ground.
But the boys are definately concerned that there maybe bans on the horizon.
Another interesting fact...Allan Pearce is travelling with the team in the role of physio....wonder if he packed his boots ??
On the side Phuket worth a visit... Ping Pong Tournament went well...Long rallies....Happy Ending
It's a bit surprising the guy who tackled Durante didn't get a minimum yellow for that two footed challenge. I must say I'm a bit dissapointed that Muscat and Durante didn't show better composure given the unimportance of the match.

I said it all last year and I will say it again, discipline. The club has to come down hard and send a message. We can't go whinging to the FFA about what support we do not get from average officials when we try to sort it ourselves. When all the FFA will see is 2 red cards for retaliation as opposed to a red card not issued for a shit tackle, how are the FFA going to punish the official involved?
When you look at the highlights, I kinda wonder if it was not premediated on Thiago. I say that because once Manny throws the punches, Ifill is right in behind him. I wonder if more is to come of that because the referee didn't deal with it thus its open to judiciary.
The attitude of Sigmund has always been a disgrace and I am less impressed with Muscat. There is the suspension he got for smacking Adrian Leijer (blindsided), the forum members' GIF with Sigmund elbowing someone in the back of the head and now coming in and again, another elbow to the head from behind? This is guy is not a 'heart on the sleeve' footballer - he is a dirty cheapshot artist. I do not condone violence but at least someone who had an resemblance of 'old school respect' would have at least smacked a guy square in the chops while he is facing him with a chance to defend it, not continually getting in cheapshots in.
I really do not like this look especially when we are struggling to put bums on seats and push ourselves as a club families can relate to. Sorry, I can't relate to this.
Grumpy old bastard alert
Lucky for them there are games they can serve it before the start of the season. Unless they get longer bans, which I wouldnt be surprised at and think they all deserve.
"It is unlikely they will be able to serve their bans during the four-match tour of India. The FFA spokesman said it was more likely they would instead be forced to sit out the pre-season games against league newcomers Western Sydney Wanderers at Christchurch's AMI Stadium on September 23 and ASB Premiership outfit Manawatu at Palmerston North's Memorial Park on September 29.
That would free the trio to play in the season opener against Sydney FC at Westpac Stadium on October 6, unless the FFA decide they are guilty of violent misconduct and deserve lengthier bans."
Good to hear they are taking a hard stance, but not much specifics on what sort of ban they will give internally which makes me feel like they will just rest guys and say it was their ban.
Fair call playwithfire, but the article says they are going to wait and see what the FFA hands out before they issue a internal punishment. I agree though, good to see the club making a stance. No matter the circumstance, violent behaviour isn't a good look.
I thought it was interesting the Domey mentions the 'play' pre the punch up. Will be interesting to see if the FFA mention anything about it.

rubbish it doesn't show him lining up someone- it's quite clearly Kruse
Hope the tackle of Dura is punished can't believe the ref let it go

Andrew Gourdie said tonight that the players have been fined by the club, regardless of what the FFA decides to do.
Well if all 3 are going to be banned for the first and/or potentially more of the a-league season, then i guess Ricki has this indian tournie to try test a few players in defense. i.e. he would have to start boxall in all games there now? Ricki is going to be so p1ssed off with this.
But it was fun to watch. Sigmund is a nutter..he loves this stuff.
updated- oh, i didnt realise they could serve their ban on some other pre-season games. so ricki will only be half p1ssed then. lol.
If we build it, they will come...

Not impressed; not with the players - all SENIOR players; not with the coaching staff - if the suggestion is correct about the movie they watched on the team bus before the game; and not with the supporters who are treating this as a bit of a lark.
