A week away, but looking like a hum dinger.  Back at home after a good 6 pt haul over there, but now with a new RB (Boxall).

Loud noises! Massive, bolded font size.

Batucada in Aisle 30.  Boxey as FZ Capo. Nixey giving stuff to Aisle 12. Patrick getting another quick snog in when the ball goes out. Grandadi predicting a massive win (called by the announcer as "lots of points to zero").

Face painting, bouncey castles, charridy strip (not really)... what else is needed?

CCM better improve from the way they are playing the heart or we will be four wins on the trot.

Our biggest enemy will be complacency.  That was a pile of faeces that they and Heart dished up.

Are you suggesting we should leave Carlos on the bench?

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Well we did play pretty good without him...

If that's how CCM play without Wee Mac and Flores, then as long as we play our game as per against WSW we have 3 points (no Grandadi or nufc_nz bollocks was used in the making of this statement).

Yep, that's exactly my thinking. However, I think Ernie would want to whip Carlos into shape by putting him on the park anyway.

Went to a film at the reading tonight and a Nix ad came on. Was quite stoked until it promoted the 3 games in december. Not so flash.

Really quite worried about Boxall as RB. I think he is a much better back up CB than RB. He doesn't push forward nearly as much as Fenton does and, despite reading Ernie say that he is the fastest in the squad on 20m sprints, he looks quite slow and "bulky". Hope to be proved wrong there. Also I would start Carlos ahead of Hicks as a no.10 as Jason hasn't really impressed me in that position.

Big game, that's for sure. Have we ever won 4 on the trot? Let's hope CCM have a bumpy flight in and that we bring our A-game!

Not to mention that in the aftermatch presser, Ernie stated that Hicks is not a 10 so you are either going to see Carlos there or Stein and with the way Stein is scoring and Brockie is not, you are more likely to see Carlos there.

I still think we are going to have a hard time breaking down CCMs defence. We have had trouble scoring and they probably have the most organised defence in the league. I think we will get plenty of possession but need to take whatever chances come and watch the counter.

Would really love to see Boyd given a start ahead of Brockie. I know a lot of people think he's better coming off the bench for now but I reckon the time has come to give him a shot. Also Brockie has had plenty of chances to play his way back into form and clearly hasn't so a spell on the bench might help him sort himself out. Boyd and Stein also appear to work a lot better together than Brockie and Stein. Is it 3 goals they've created together in the last 2 games?

Looking at the upcoming fixtures (Tards, Roar, Cakes then Jests), it is probably a good time to try that.  If it works then it can be tried out again against our bogey teams in the next two games.  If it doesn't then we have the "established" line up to fall back on (minus Mr Bombastic, Mr lova lova *sniff*).

3 goals while he's come off the bench at tired defenders. I think he should still be used tactically like that for a few more games, so he can mature even more than he has already. THEN give him a start and see what happens.
And can i just say, while i'll admit to being a Vinnie bagger in the past, his performances seem to have improved remarkably since Riera has taken a strong DM role, allowing him to push forward more. Still not perfect, but a damed sight better than previously.
Still not sold on Kenny though, seems to fall over a lot, which im sure the refs will get tired of soon and start ignoring him (like they're starting to do with ADP), and he seems overly physical when chasing a player to win the ball, and gives away fouls.
I think Brockie needs some bench time or something to find his desire again, but the issue is, without the likes of Brockie or Cunningham, who else do we have up front?

I think the "tired defenders" call is a bit of a red herring - just because it's in comparison to Brockie, and you could argue that Brockie has had a lot more chances to contribute because he's been on the field so much more, but he hasn't taken them. I'll accept that Boyd's energy is useful to inject late in a game but I just think that continuing to pick Brockie because there's no one else is just shooting ourselves in the foot. Give the guy who's proved he's able to contribute in recent weeks the chance to contribute more, I say. He can hardly be less effective than Brockie on current form.

Yeah, I think Brockie should be benched and Boyd started in his place. If anything it is just about rewarding form and without doing that you send the wrong message. I think that this is the time to try it if you are looking at bringing another attacking player into the squad because you (hopefully) wont get a better opportunity later in the season.

Maybe Brockie could do with a few off-the-bench appearances so that he too gets the chance to run at tired defenders, breaks his drought, and then we have some hard-fought competition for a starting place between him and Boyd. Everybody wins.

In our last 9 games against them we have scored 3 goals. Their defensive pattern doesn't seem to have changed too much. I think people are being a little overly confident, it is a good time to be playing them but I doubt we will have plenty of chances.

How is going back 3 seasons even slightly relevant to this season in the here and now.

It's a fair point that we have changed significantly this season, but to say it is not even slightly relevant is incorrect. We still have the many of the same players and showed the same trend already earlier this season. CCM still have a good defence, they get a lot of people behind the ball, and we are still low on goals against all teams. That's my view, we are not going to get many chances so need to make the most of what we do create.

Young Jeremy needs to get away from the stupid hair look.

No.2 I reckon- the change of look could lead to a change of outlook. Worked for Beckham...

Anyway, would like/love to see him and Carlos each score a screamer. That would REALLY set the tone for the rest of the season.

Nostalgia isnt what it used to be...........

Is WeeMac playing? He only missed the weekend because of a virus from what I read. When does he fly off?

My starting line up would be:

              Moss

Box   Siggy  Dura  Manny

         Lia      Paramedic

Boyd       Carlos       Kenny

                Stein

Bench: Brockie, Leo, Ridenton, Hicks, Italiano

In reality I think it will be Brockie instead of Boyd though. Or if Carlos come of the bench it will be Brockie up front with Stein at 10.

The previous game was supposed to be his last. I'm pretty sure he will not be available.

He is off to Japan but Ibini joins the CCM squad. He has been training with them for a few weeks, so should slot straight back in.

Good test to see if our culture really has changed. We don't have a great track record of going on with it after winning a few in the row, and this is one of those games we also must win. Another factor to be wary of is the underdog card, which we've utilised well in this run, as no-one in Oz really rates the Phoenix. Up until now anyway. But we're unlikely to get away with playing that card again. The 3 wins (and more the way we did it vs WSW) means we're potentially not far away from becoming the hunted, and that will be a whole new ballgame. Probably have to give Boyd a start with Stein after last week. He deserves it. But seeing Boyd up ended 'legally' the other night is a reminder how careful these kids have to be managed on the paddock, as they become fair game for hardened A league destroyers. Won't surprise me if Ernie sticks Brockie and Cunningham in again. Mariners are hard as nails.

Last game we played them we had 16 shots with 10 on target (including a missed penalty). After that game Stein must have gotten some new boots because he is now putting chances away that he was missing previously. Hopefully we can still create as many chances (we are equal top for the most amount of attempts on goal and 4th on shots on target) and take them.

To be fair 3 goals in 9 games is at least an interesting stat.
