What pissed me off about that, is that instead of throwing it back to us, they kick the ball back over the half way line. I'm surprised that didn't piss more people off. Surely they should be playing it back to us in a similar position to where we kicked the ball out.

Anyway, season over. I think we tried hard, but our squad is just not good enough.

We lack a real rival, but based on various dick things they have done I'm really starting to hate Adelaide.

Where have you ever seen any team not knock the ball as far away as possible. That is the smart thing to do.

He did the gentlemanly thing..then got a  bollocking from Dura!

He should have got a bollocking. And I hope Ernie tears him a new one as well. We were playing for our season FFS. He should only have kicked it out if he'd seen bone sticking out.

I agree. If a player is down, and the FIFA directive is to 'not play the ball out' then surely, there's no reason to do so? Nobody should play the ball out for 'fair play' because there's so many chances to abuse this kind of sportsmanship. Playing down the park with your mates? Yep, play the ball out. Nobody cares about the result. An A-League fixture with a top 6 placing riding on the result? Play on. Because you know what? If every player knows everyone else will play on, they'll stop acting. And if a player is hurt enough to go down because of injury, then they'll be on the deck not caring – they'll be off with an injury in a minute anyway.

For my 2 cents worth.

Today I started off with a Fritz Sausage, followed it up with a stadium beef burger which had crisp fresh lettuce, fresh tomato, a bun from a fridge as it was very cold and a kind of meat pattie. Thus far I have had no side effects. I have to say, it was fresh an edible.

The football was crappy and not helped with over 40 free kicks given. Admittedly, our players had a lot to do with giving away so many.

The day was going well. The Honda was full of kids who'd been given free tickets and I felt really clever parking at the stadium for the members charge of $10, chuckling to myself at the stupid sods paying $30. The kids all loved a ride on the cars, then the bouncy castle and slide. I bought a Heineken for only $8 as I was enjoying myself so much , and even the chips were hot and crunchy - I should know I bought 4 lots of them. Everyone was having a whale of a time.

The football was dire

On a positive note, the food has improved, I think the young ones did well.

To imply we lost the game because of a bit of good sportsmanship by one of our players is ridiculous, we lost the game because the good  chances we had were not put away (again) and Dura fouled someone in our box.

Yep, for once the food was the highlight of the day. Read somewhere Siggy and Lia are in doubt for Sydney and that Manny is suspended?

What did everyone think of Timmins?

Thought he was very good, aside from wishing he hadn't played the ball out when the Adelaide player went down.

Was quite nice going forward, seems to have a good feel for things, could be quite solid with a bit more experience.

First half, a few misplaced passes, but still confident on ball, most important for me was to keep the winger off the scoresheet - job done. Second half, much better, I too like the way he goes forward with confidence, he also has the ability to take players on with ease and generally his passing is spot on, (would be good to see his stats). again main thing for me was keeping the winger at bay - the winger was subbed - job done. Still kept the new winger off the score sheet too which was a bonus. I think with the right player in front of him he would cause problems. Hopefully get to see him with a full pre-season under his belt as we have only seen a glimpse of him, IMO he does offer something different to the squad. Ernie needs to be cute as I think theres a few sides who could make use of his talents.

But is he good enough for an import slot?

That's sad to hear. Your enthusiastic support and 'never say die' backing of the team through thick and thin will be sadly missed.

Look forward to seeing you at our first play-off game at the ROF next season........

Massive yarn.

On the game - we tried, but ultimately just not good enough. Given the amount of re-signings, our squad is pretty much 90% full for the next season, so hard to see where significant improvement will come from.

Nah.  We have four significant changes to what we've seen in the last several loosing weeks.  Two signings (replacing Ifill and Leo and with additional money from Lia's surely reduced-salary two year deal).  And Riera and Fenton to come back from injury.

That's four out of a squad of 24 (17%) and four coming into the starting 11 (36%).  So long as we can make the right signings.  If Stein goes then one's an import and if not there should be plenty of funds to attract two quality non-visa players - two new senior players, as Ernie said yesterday when interviewed by Veitch on Radio Sport.

And the following year we have the option to let Brockie go and the likelihood of at least a couple of the kids being much stronger squad players, if not starting.

Those kids that have been given a chance have not done that bad. Hicks and Ridenton seem a bit lightweight, easily pushed off the ball but with this season behind them and some weights work, they will come good. Boyd looks a lot better though not scoring but I tip him to strike gold next season. Boxall is a decent right back rather than CB, I think we could even avford to move Fenton back to his natural position. Timmins will come good.

Am I wrong that there is mathematically still a chance we can make the top 6?

Of course we need to have Glory beat the Jets, we beat Sydney (possible) next week while the jets need to go down to Victree (possible), have the Jets then lose to Adelaide (likely), the Glory then again pull out a stunner and beat Sydney, while we romp home against Victory (nothing to lose!).

And so ends my clutching at straws. Highly unlikely I know, but can you imagine...

Mathematically possible, but highly unlikely.

On the basis of the last two games (listless and short of ideas) I would prefer if we didn't. Getting badly beaten in the finals would be almost a worse outcome than not qualifying, in terms of supporters' morale.

I was at the match and for large parts of it the crowd around me were just not engaged with what was happening on the pitch. Which is a great shame.

As said by others seems to be quite a number turn up in the zone, not just this week, wanting to be "entertained" and to feel part of the atmosphere yet do little to participate.

The amount of inane mindless chatter about nothing to do with football is amazing. Many of these people barely seem to even watch the match to see what is happening

So much this, have to wonder why some even bother. Has been much more noticeable this season than in the past. Then again despite playing some better football the results havnt been much.

Think the reasons are many and varied why the crowds havnt improved. For me first and foremost is the fact we started the season so badly and keeping the team away from home for extended periods cant help at all.Frankly you can keep your total football if it means the only title we are going to battling for is the spoon.

I agree that it's disappointing, but the sad fact is that these are the very people that the Club has to get through the door to get crowds up. I think it's fairly obvious that "real" football fans aren't enough to give us decent crowd numbers. Can only hope that as we improve on the pitch, these people start to contribute off the park. We have to somehow break the cycle of turn up, don't participate, complain about the atmosphere being shit, don't come back.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

40-50 free kicks, players on the ground taking a nap, walking off the field in slow-motion. The entertaining was worse than the chicken dance at half time.
The only time the crowd went wild was when they gave the smartphones away. The should do that while the game is on.
We tried hard to get something out of it, I appreciate that, but they are just not good enough at the moment.

By the way I just went back and had a look at the highlights. Pretty sure that's the shortest highlight reel I've seen for a game this season.

Also notable that we had three really good chances. Four if you count That Kenny's long range effort.

As bad as watching us lose yesterday was also having to be forced to listening to the prick behind me dissing the nix and praising the reds and he's meant to be a supportor. But the he also sings....

Oh Wellington (oh wellington)

Is Wonderfiul (is wonderful)

Oh Wellington is wonderful

Oh how I want to be in the Phoenix

Wellington is wonderful!

....because he genuinely believes that  is the way the chant goes and no one has corrected the "15 year seat holder never played this sissies sport in my life" douche.

I'm gonna take a gun in two weeks time.

That's drawing a very long bow - counting Riera and Fenton? Not sure about that. Leo wasn't on a lot of money this year, and we don't really know if Lia took a significant paycut. So it's really only Ifill's spot to play around with (and Stein's if he doesn't re-sign). Not a lot of wiggle room, and we're not even finished with this season yet!

A lot more than that I'd suggest. Barely anyone sits on that side of the stadium, so that kind if makes sense too.

I'd say they threw the balls in the general direction of about 90% of the crowd. They're hardly going to throw them into empty seats.

Perth at least came back mans scored 2 late goals to win their game. We were never in danger of doing that yesterday.

Inane chatter about non-football stuff really is the most annoying thing. Cant people just watch the football for bloody 90 mins and hurl abuse at the players and ref?
