The headline in this article says the game has been postphoned until Wednesday january 26th. if that is the case it sucks a bit for us as we have a must win home game against Perth on Sunday the 23rd and then have another hugehome game sunday 30th against the Jets.

So we now have 3 games in 8 days and have to fly to Brisbane in between. This will majorly affect our preparation and traing over this vital week. We need max points for those two home games.

I guess there is nothing much we can do about it.....perhaps we could send over the "killer B's" i.e the Nix number two side to play Brisbane

The Brisbane Roar - Wellington Phoenix FC game scheduled for this Sunday at Suncorp has been postponed until January 26 and will more than likely be at a venue other than Suncorp

The 26th will be somewhere in Australia as the Roar have a game due at Suncorp for the 28th. Suncorp is indefinitely closed and will probably need weeks and weeks to relay turf. I reckon the Roar will move to Ballymore if thats not under water.

If its in Wellington on the 26th - Ill attend 4 A-League matches in 11 days

Brisbane have 3 Home games left for the season 16th, 28th and 12th Feb. Of those matches I can only see the last one being available at Suncorp (at the very best) Ballymore is located right on the river as well so is probably flooded.

The 16th game has been transferred to somewhere else and the Roar may have to bite the bullet and realise they have to play away at least till the 12th Feb...

Gabba?

Got something like a permanent cricket wicket (not a drop in) in the way for the Queensland Bulls/International Cricket. They have played football in Australia on cricket wickets before, but its pretty bloody dangerous. Plus There is an international cricket match between Australia and England due to be played on the 30th January at the GABBA. Don't know the impact on the suburb of Wooloongabba of the flood yet, but the Lions have shut their brisbane office.

Its funny how Suncorp is the major twitter subject. We may be in flood, but we are so concerned about our sporting venues that are under water...

They should just play it at Skilled Park or Westpac.

Poor show if it's in Australia in between 2 home games in a week for us though.

Odds at this stage having the game at Skilled Park, but could see it move to Westpac if Skilled Park is a dud.

The travel is one issue, but so is the issue of the revenue for the Brisbane Roar club.

yeah, weather they can make sufficient revenue. A match at Westpac on 26th and then playing Melbourne Heart at home on the 28th is not what Brisbane will be doing surely.

QFT, but a bit close to the river. Maybe QEII Stadium could be used. Has all the media facilities and is near no river...

Edit - GABBA will be under threat if the flood peak reaches 5.5 metre. Roads are under water only a few hundred metres from the ground at the moment.

If the game is in Oz - which to be honest it more than likely will be - we've been screwed over royally. Three games in eight days with a flight to Oz and back in the middle is ridiculous and really kneecaps our playoff chances. Does anyone know why it couldn't be played at the end of the season?

Personally, the best outcome - if it must be played on that date - would be for the Roar to take it to Auckland. Really push it as a charity game, entice Queenslanders to stay here a bit with some deals and get a good crowd in a raise some money. And Aucklanders can shut up about not getting any Nix action, but it won't strictly be a home game for the Nix. I don't see it happening, but I think it would be a decent outcome. Otherwise we're getting shafted by circumstance outside our control.

^ And outside the Roar's control...

You have a two week break from playing before that 3 games in 8 days though. So you will be well rested to do it.

Seems as if the GABBA is going to be ok, Queensland Cricket have said that the Twenty/20 game between NSW and QLD will occur. Roar finals will probably have to be held at the GABBA, maybe including Broncos (who may go back to QEII Stadium for a few games) and the Reds. Think we have to wait a few days before a venue has been announced. Can't see Suncorp used for a while.

Bloody NZRFU all their fault. Clearly they made this happen to try make it harder for a top 6 spot.

Fox Sports Pre-Match show said the game will be held at either Skilled Park or Suncorp Stadium.

I can't see Suncorp being used...During the finals they may use another venue though.

What a bloody laugh "  we're getting shafted" its not as if  any one else can control the situation.

We have shafted our own season and your kidding yourself if you think this is going to be the reason we missed the playoffs.

All the people that think the game should be played in Wellington are not thinking clearly. If the boot was on the other foot would we be happy to play our home game away.
I think not.

Haven't we had less home games than some others in the league though? Why do we have to go to Brisbane twice, and didn't we also have to go there twice last year?

I don't think it would be that unfair to play it in Wellington considering the above.

Its not near a river and the Gold Coast was lucky not to cope much of the deluge that happened yesterday. But the pitch did have to be abandoned. Two weeks away it could be ready to use. Suncorp, I can't see being able to be used by then...

You seem to be a curator Top Left, its going to take a while to take the soil out, put new soil in, import turf from outside of NSW...

I'm not saying someone else can control the situation, but considering the travel I reckon it is unrealistic to expect the Nix to perform three in eight. And no, I'm not going to blame this situation if we don't make the playoffs - I clearly didn't say that - but it does make that Jets game (a must win which we would be strong favourites for) a tough ask. So yeah, we've been screwed, regardless of whether we should have played better this season - that's irrelevant FFS.

Of course the Road never asked for this situation too, but the affect on them is much less severe, particularly as the minor premiership is in the bag. I know they would not want to give up a home game but in all possibility it won't be played in Brisbane, so they dip out on a home game anyway.

If the game is in Oz we'd give ourselves a better chance of getting more points by not turning up!

Yeah massive, massive job they have on their hands there. They won't know for sure how bad until the water subsides though I guess. I don't know if it will just require a full returf of if the soil profile/drains will need work as well.

Such a shame for them because they do a great job, one of the best surfaces in the league and all their good work is undone and it's a long way back for them.

I know in the big picture this is a minor issue but everyone is suffering in different ways.

Fuck this stupid game

I have a contact with a leading turf scientist, so hopefully I can get something up on austadiums to see how long Brisbanites will have to wait till they can watch sport at their favourite stadium. It is an issue, because there is a very strong sentiment towards the venue which is so much better than any other venue in town.

Commiserations go out to those who have seen their homes flooded, but to a curator their turf is a work of art. To see it how it is at the moment would be devastating to see.

Yeah we're usually in the loop with turf stuff in Aus [my boss is Strayin] so will keep an eye out for news. Will appreciate if you post what you hear on here as well, cheers!

There are some teams that have to play us twice in Wellington. eg The Jets
