WeeMac needs to play deeper - no longer has the pace to play out wide.

Hudson had it right!
Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
I think WeeMac is at his best on the left side of a midfield 3 in a 4-3-3. Problem is Finkler is at his best as a CAM in a 4-2-3-1. One of them has to be played out of his best position if we want them both starting, unless we play a 4-4-2 diamond but we've seen how hard it can be to make that work

It's interesting.
He would also be good at the front left of a 4-3-3 I reckon. We've all seen him beat players around the box and send in good delivery. You don't have to be so fast, just faster than the opposition expects!
I'd worry about him being out main CM. How do we rate his defence?

well where ever he plays it will be important for our season unless Ridenton, Rufer or Singh exceeds our expectations by enormous amounts...we have to get a good injury free year out of him.
Copuld better off playing WeeMac in the Finkler role and trying to find another club for him. Wasn't convinced last year that he has the legs anymore - not for 90 mins anyway.

Different players, Finkler uses his size well and has closer ball control, WeeMac is more mobile and has a bigger engine.
We have a top AM in Finckler, a topCM in WeeMac, and backups for both in Singh and Ridenton. We have limited slots and two CMs would be a luxury that we don't need IMHO.
Finkler being a 'top AM' and WeeMac being a 'top CM' are both thoroughly debatable.
Lia, A-Rod and Bonevacia, our 3 best midfielders, have left.

Bonivacia had one good season with us, massively overrated.

I would say Ifill.
I with the others, Roly didn't play well enough for us over a sustained period. On his last season's performance, I'm surprised any other A League franchise even considered him.
Bonevacia just started trying too hard to do everything when we were struggling as a team. When we were a functioning unit, he was one of the best in the league. Anyone underrating him has rocks in their head. Even when half injured and not playing well, he still did things that no one else in the team could do.
Don't be surprised to see him rip it up at WSW next season.
Ifill is the best we've had because his performances coincided with the best team performances as well. Plus he's a good bloke.

whenever he got the ball i knew that was the end of any attacking intent by the team, he was very skillful but couldnt play the role that we needed from him. he got the ball and our attack would stall as he slowed down play. ultimately he was a liability and we'll miss arod more.
Well, his lack of work rate. It was clear last season that Roly stopped giving a shark, and his already poor work rate got even worse - particularly defensively.
I think he will do well at WSW, he is a good player (when he wants to be).
Allegedly
Which is ironic because that's the position he was signed to.
Reckon part of that was Ernie's fault. He got excited and chucked him in the AM role and basically gave him free reign, then tried to reign him back in again. Wasn't going to happen.
a.haak

Why shouldn't that happen... he's a professional, do as asked and paid!
Exactly, the mark of a good player is more than just skill on the ball. Work rate, temperament, and the ability to read a game also comes into it.
Fuck this stupid game

When's he being crowned?
Speculation after Buckingham's announcement: anyone with any connection, anywhere, anytime to Stoke.
Kotahitanga. We are one.
Gamerio to Brisbane... Anyone else good we could get to fill the striker spot?
Burns is the only player that comes to mind.
I was thinking, given that Darjie seems to want a 4-3-3, wouldn't Burns (if we get him) be playing RW?
Burns on the left, Krishna on the right... seems oddly familiar to Kosta...
Darje has said that he'll play whatever formation suits the team that is assembled so I don't know if a 4-3-3 is a given.
But, I don't know if I'd want Burns as a primary striker, he had a great season for us but he's only really had two standout seasons in his career, could we rely on him for 10+ goals?
I think we'll be looking to get an import striker. Either Burns or Vidosic one one wing and Krishna on the other with an import striker would be pretty formidable.
I for one hope its not Burns, think many just seem to assume he will recapture that form he had when he first arrived. I for one am not so confidant he will, lets face it he is a couple of years older and its not as if his form since leaving has been that good. We have tried older strikers in the past and despite lots of enthusiasm they havnt really come off.
