Regular starter on good coin at Oceania Club of the Century with great facilities, located in the heart of a thriving cosmopolitan metroplis, in the sporting capital of Australia vs squaddie in Wellington. Hmm...

He was also clearly not up to A-League level during his time here? Probably one of those players who just suit the NPL/SS Prem level (see Dyer, M.)

He'd start again raiding Barcelona B, C & D

Isaias & Cirio came from the second tier of Spain, so it wouldn't be the worst place to look

Via Inverness Caledonian Thistle. But the point being, if we did Ramon he is very familiar with a region that has done well for the A-League in the past.

Didn't exactly cover himself in glory at the Nations Cup, despite scoring.

The answer to that quite obviously is to have conceded 0

Apart from Smeltz, have we ever recruited anyone from Perth?

I would think Lowry cam from there, so there is a precedent?

Noticed in the Liam Graham thread that he is off-contract at Chesterfield in June. Right-back (so a position we need to fill with Tratt leaving) but coming off an ACL injury, still just 24. Would he be worth looking at?

Only a couple days until we finally know...

Have they purposefully timed the announcement of a new coach at the end of the month to give Ramon the chance to qualify for the CWC and have a final moment with them as a team / club before he walks away.

Might be a bit distracting to have done it before hand.

What makes you say only a couple of days? Timeline has always been a few weeks past end of the Nix season (which I take to be last week's awards), with end of May the specificest time given as a final deadline.

My bad... was getting excited thinking this month... also didn't realise the final is played over two legs.

Gameiro released by City. There is enough talent there that I wouldn't mind the club taking the risk with his knee injuries. If he could stay fit, he would be a massive improvement over Watto.

Pantelis 2.0

No, he's worse than Pantelis but also younger. I'd take a risk on him if he's cheap enough.

3 knee injuries in 3 years is a massive risk, tho this last one was a different knee. But he still has a huge upside & is worth taking the risk as I doubt he will price himself out of the market.

Can he be signed on a pay as he plays contract?

I think its a waste - i'd rather develop Lewis a kiwi than potentially sign a player who will never take the field.

Lewis isn't a striker is he? Also it sounds like he has some trials lined up, Im assuming not with us.

He seems to play as a wide attacker, if he did this Krishna could play more central?

Ali Abbas' contract with Pohang Steelers has been terminated. 30 years old, good replacement as a centre midfielder for Lia? Pretty sure he has an Australian citizenship. Only problem is I think he's still an international so we will probably lose him during international windows. Thoughts?

Gameiro and often injured player or Ryan de Vries, a fully fit play with development potential that scores goals for fun. Gameiro might want more $$ than he should get. de Vries will play for bag of donuts thats not in a brown bag finally.

Seems like a stupid signing chasing Gameiro to me.

Not sure RdV has development potential, he's a guy in his prime who plays a position where we have superior options (Krishna and Kosta).

Permalink Permalink

I like Krishna, but I do think he is a limited player.

He's a much improved version of himself, but other than pace he does not have much else. He's not the greatest dribbler or most technical player, nor is he physical enough to dominate space etc.

De Vries I think has a little more to work with, whether he makes the most of it like Krishna has is another question.

If we were to look at Krishna back when he was De Vries age and were given the choice, who'd people pick then?

Permalink Permalink

De Vries simply because of the visa spot

Neither of them is right for playing as a central striker in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. They're suited to playing off a bigger man in either a wide forward or second striker role. We need someone who can lead the line. Watson is the right type of player but not quite good enough. Smeltz was right but too old and slow now.

Krishna has proved himself against A League defences time and again. He is well worth a spot.
