What's the story with junior 'signings', and fielding reserve team players?

If I've understood correctly (not very likely) A league teams have to sign three under 20 for their squad proper.

They CAN sign another three under 20 (like apprentices?), who are considered to be outside the squad but can be fielded.

On top of  that, they can field anyone in the reserve team? Of any age?

Is that right?!

The Nix have two under 20 signed and 'in the squad' and need to sign a third.

Do they have any others under 20 signed but outside the squad? Various sites show Waine, Smith, Ebbinge, Sutton, Whyte and Philip as current Phoenix players.

You need to have 3 u20s on your senior roster. Outside the squad you can have up to 6 players on Scholarship deals. We have Singh and Cacace on Senior deals and Smith will be re-signed on a Scholarship deal apparently.

I believe Callan Elliot is currently the only triallist who's under 20??

Tratt still trialling in today's game - also a 'Yoo Byung-Soo' - possibly this guy

New faces in this video too? Kit numbers 23 and 31/32 in use...

if its that guy he looks pretty decent, how do you know this?

If it's that striker, he's pretty tall for a Korean at 1.83 m

Mainly played in Korean top flight, Saudi and Russian top flight (though never relly established himself there. For Rostov: 5 starts, 23 sub apps, on bench 43 times)

Three caps for South Korea.

Amazing how often people say stuff like 1.83cm is 'pretty tall for a Korean', but people would never say that it's 'pretty tall for a Nigerian/Colombian/Jamican' etc etc, even though Koreans are on average taller than those countries. People can't help but think 'asian = short'.

Seriously though, that's because on average asians are shorter than europeans, just like on average scandanavians are taller. There's billions of asians and it's pretty easy to realise they are shorter than say the average NZer, as opposed to nigerians/colombians/jamaicans who people are generally less familiar with. Disclaimer: I am asian and average height for an asian so have been called short my whole life in NZ :)

Went to the Korea v Tall Blacks game a few months back and their team had 5 players over 6'8", much bigger than our team.

Are you solid on saying that Koreans are on average taller then Nigerians?

Get back on topic please fellas.

Watching his highlights, he looks pretty good with his head. Well taken penalties as well.

what I don't get from his wiki page is why he went from his Russian club to a third division k league club for "public service work"

Does that mean national service? But saying that he seems too old to do it then.

Or is it some thing more sinister?

South Koreans do their National service between the ages of 18 and 35.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

according to all reports I have read he needs to do it by the age of 28 years (not 35) unless South Korea win the Asian games

That's why spurs have let him play

Don't think they would be too worried if he could wait till 35

28, which must be why this guy when he was 28 had to give up playing for Rostov on good money and spent 2 years playing for a fourth div domestic club. He's now 30, must've completed his military service and we are picking him up in a very sneaky bit of business. Providing he is still as quality as he used to be

one of them looked like Callan Elliot but I might be wrong. I think the fact that Tratt has travelled with the squad back to nz is a good sign that we will sign him, not sure any of the other aussie trialists have made it that far. I'd like to think that even if he hasn't had the best trial, Rudan will pick him up regardless as a) we have no right back and b) we know he can really shine at A League level and the fans love him

Is there a concrete time for when the foreign player count goes 4 + 1 AFC player?

But I wasn't comparing average height of male Koreans to that of Nigerian/Colombian/Jamaicans.

I was comparing the player on trial Byeong Su Yu to other people from his country.

Average height of male South Koreans = 1.7 m (all people aged 18+) or 1.73 m (aged 20-24)

The player on trial Soo Byeung Yoo is 1.83 m (6 feet) compared to average male Korean height 1.7 m (5'7")

So he's quite a bit taller than the average South Korean.

Best available stats for many countries here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_average_huma...

South Korean males are on average, the tallest people in Asia on that chart.

But even that is shorter than ALL European countries on that chart.

(e.g. England, France, Germany 1.75 m; Spain 1.73 m, Sweden 1.77 m, Netherlands 1.8m)

NZ average height males (20-49 years) = 1.77 m

No stats available for all NZ males (would be slightly lower since height decreases with age)

Australia gives an indication: avge male height (all 18+) = 1.75m; (18-24) = 1.77

He can get an exemption if South Korea win at the Asian Games, otherwise he's gotta go do it.

I predict Danny Choi will be picked by an A League club this off season. He just oozes class, put in a couple of brilliant cut backs last night on a losing side, also can switch play effortlessly.

You guys probably have enough wide players I guess?

Probably Newcastle look a bit short in that area.

He over his injury issues and got his citizenship sorted yet? WSW fans I speak too have been drooling over him for awhile but worried that he is made of glass.

He came back from injury 3 games ago, last night was his first ninety minutes since returning.

I don't know the answer to the citizenship question, although I think it was mentioned twelve months ago that is was nearly sorted.

I honestly believe he is national team material and definitely worth taking a chance with.

I watch the Korean guy who plays for Tottenham and see the same qualities in Danny Choi.

He's copped plenty of iffy tackles since he's returned and coped ok.

interesting stat about height. South Korean women were the shortest on average at 142cm about a hundred years ago. Their average height is now 162cm.

Tratt - interesting he didn't get a contract while the team were in Aus (while Rufer did). Suggests Rudan wasn't convinced. How'd he go vs Lower Hutt? And the Korean?

I suspect Tratt's all but signed up. Don't think they'd have brought him over here otherwise.

The Korean was very underwhelming.
